  1. Well, the 130XE was working perfectly BEFORE I plugged that power supply in. Can't imagine that it's just coincidence that it gave up the ghost at the same time I powered up with that faulty power supply... It is certainly possible, I suppose... I'll have to check chips this week some time and let you know. I certainly appreciate all your help! Nice that there's a good, supportive community out here!
  2. Thanks for chiming in... Ok, when I switch the 130XE on, I get... A quiet, black screen. The red power LED illuminates (bottom left corner), but nothing else. Pressing Reset, etc., gives me no response at all. Same power supply and monitor cable into the 65XE or the 800XL and... Works fine. Something in the 130XE is definitely fried, but I'm stunned it happened simply by powering the thing up for a couple seconds! Also, the BAD power supply was a sealed brick type... Still nauseous!
  3. Oh dear, lord, what have I done?!?! So I was tidying up my computer area and I realized I hadn't identified that damaged power supply, so I thought I would check and see which one it was. I plugged it into my 130XE, powered it up, saw that it was the bad one, powered down, switched the power supply with a good one, powered up the 130XE and... NOTHING!!! Did I just friggin' FRY my 130XE by plugging that wretched thing into it?!?! Is there anything that can be done??? I feel nauseous...
  4. Opened it up, pulled and returned the BASIC chip (CO60302A-29) and all is well (so far). ROM and RAM all appear fine according to Self Test. Thanks for the suggestion! ~Scott
  5. Ok guys... I acquired the SIO2PC USB interface and APE from AtariMax a few weeks back and I'm just not getting it (though I certainly WANT to!!!) The online APE documentation appears to be missing at the moment and I'm wondering if there's another site/place I can go that can help me go through the process, step-by-step?
  6. Well, the carts tested on this machine work perfectly fine on my 130XE and 65XE...
  7. So I got this here 800XL and it is misbehaving like a bad chihuaha! First of all, I've noticed that wiggling the monitor cable affects the display, so I'm probably looking at repairing that soon... Second, when you boot up, you DO get a blue screen, but NO basic/READY prompt. I did try booting with a BASIC cart and that seemed to work. Was the internal BASIC somehow disabled??? Third, some cartridges work... Others do not. Any thoughts based on the above symptoms???
  8. Y'know some of you electronically adept folks should really make some step-by-step videos for repairs and things like this! I know the audience is rather limited, but MAN would they be helpful!
  9. I recently acquired a 1050 and an 810. The 1050 powers up, but fails to do much of anything else when I turn on the computer. The 810 powers on, spins, grinds and appears to TRY to read the disk, but I get single beeps and BOOT ERROR messages. I'm going to try some of the above suggestions for both. Any other troubleshooting ideas before I pull the drives apart, though?
  10. So what sort of things can I plug into the Expansion Port on the back of my 130XE???
  11. Well, the boxes arrived today! Just finished opening them and inside I found the following: 65XE 130XE 810 410 Touch Tablet 9 cartridges 6 or 7 cassette programs Manuals Power Supplies Two joysticks Odds and ends Not a bad haul from the folks!
  12. Along those same lines... http://fortmyers.craigslist.org/clt/1068038540.html $1500!!!

  14. Last week, my parents gathered together all of the Atari stuff that they could find in their basement and shipped it off to me in what they described as "...two BIG boxes..." Supposedly there are two XEs in there (a 65 and a 130), disk drives, a 410, tons of disks and cartridges, documentation, books, etc., etc. There's a good chance that the boxes will arrive tomorrow and I cannot contain my excitement!!! Will post a detailed inventory after I've unboxed it all! It's things like this that have me all fired up about retro computing as a hobby! Pity, however, that we/they didn't keep everything we had over the years as we were a family that went 800 to 800XL to 65 & 130XE to 520ST to 1040ST...
  15. Didn't use a C= power supply, so no worries there... I'll look into a new power supply and see what happens! Thanks! Will keep you all posted... BTW, that's the edge of a 128D, actually.
  16. I just received an Atari 800xl in the mail. The owner DID tell me that he didn't think it worked, but I put some money down and bought it all the same. Anyway, when I power up, I don't get much (see below). Any suggestions? Is it nothing more than a box of spare parts or is there a simple fix in its future???
  17. Did anyone ever put together that listing of active clubs??? I live in the Los Angeles area and I would love to get some sort of club together of local Atari Enthusiasts! Surely there must be a few of us down here!!! I've actually considered starting a club for ANY/ALL retro computers and their owners since I think it might attract more people. Heck, I currently have an 800XL and a 130XE, but I also own a TI-99 and a Commodore 128D... Thoughts from those of you involved in current clubs???
  18. I just acquired a CX85 and I'm wondering where I might find a list of programs that utilize this lil' ol' keypad???
  19. Wow, I ADORED 'Kangaroo' and played the hell out of that game! Funny how one man's trash... etc., etc. I remember a lot of Dynacomp games being pretty terrible (thus the frequent use of the adjusted moniker: "DynaCRAP"!)
  20. I was raised on Atari... My heart is with Atari... But I'm open to other systems now and I recently acquired a 128D that I'm currently restoring...
  21. I picked up a computer from a moving sale today and the keyboard was filthy and spattered with ancient, dried "gunk"... To remove it, I tried oven cleaner (ala Easy-Off) on the casing (not the keys... yet) and I was stunned at how well (and fast) it worked! Has anyone else tried this??? ~Scott
  22. I had a max bid of $50 on that and was away from the computer when the auction ended so you snaked it for a buck more... Waaaaah! I'm just trying to get an old Atari back into my life after all these years and I thought it would be fun to make my first a 1200XL. Oh, well... You clearly needed it more than me and there will be others! Enjoy the loot! ~S
  23. Looks like a cartridge case... $30 certainly seems reasonable to me for the quantity.
  24. Same here... First Atari in our house was a 2600 (though we may have had an Atari Pong before that). When the 800 was released, we moved on to that and pretty much never looked back (it was 800XL, then 130XE and then onto the ST line). I wouldn't mind getting my hands on an old 6-switcher some time, though!
