  1. My friend has a Vectrex system, two controllers, and 10 games with two controllers in pretty good condition. He says that most of the games have their overlays. Also, it comes with two controllers. I know that the price depends on which games he has and exactly how many have the overlays. Can someone give me a ball park value for the lot. He is interested in selling, and after he knows about how much he will post detailed pictures of course. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

  2. I would like to buy a heavy sixer someday, but I have no idea as to a fair price to pay. Can someone could give me a price range? I would like to know for a loose system or possibly a system with a power supply too. Thanks in advance.

  3. I bought 2 C64c computers from soviet conscript. They arrived in a double-boxed, double-bubble-wrapped, and packing-peanut filled box. Everything was was pictured/described and his communication and willingness to work with me was top notch :) . If he has something else I need I would definitely buy from him again, and you shouldn't hesitate to buy from him either.

  4.

Thanks, I think that I've made my decision, I'll probably mod it and keep it (even though I have 3 others).

    Hi,

I'am curious : what mod are you using for your VCS(s) ?

Some years ago, I remember reading about 5-6 different techniques about modding the VCS with various quality results.

What are your advices about modding?

(I've got both a darth vader and a woodgrain models. I'am thinking about modding the Darth Vader model only and keeping my woodgrain as this).

    Thanks in advance,

    Cheers,

    Chris

I have used this tutorial for Darth and Woody from Ben Heck. I've tried it on two different TVs and it looks great on both.

  5. Send me a PM for anything you are interested in, and notice that everything is OBO, so if you think it is too high, offer what you think it is worth. Buyer pays shipping, and I accept paypal, check, money order, cash (probaby not a good idea unless you live in Utah). I will ship everywhere, just be realistic with shipping times and the fact that it might cost a lot of money.

  6. well these things are cheap as in... cheap. maybe if you added a few games also and controllers. that could raise the price a bit but then again, a 4er woody is cheap. i get mines for about 5-10 euro...

Mine would come with two joysticks and 6-7 common games (and I cleaned it inside and out).

    Thanks for the price range.

What's more important to you, the experience and enjoyment of learning a new skill, or the money?

If you, like me, enjoy learning, and you think it would be fun to mod your Atari, then go ahead and mod it. You might not get much more for it, but you had the chance to learn something.

If you're only interested in the ROI (return on investment), then consider how much your time is worth, compared to how much you think you could get for the modded Atari. If it's potentially worth your time, do the mod and sell it. Otherwise consider mowing a couple of lawns or working day labor for a few hours.

If it's money you want, probably pursuing temp jobs will get more than a modded Arari, based on the prices I see on eBay.

I have modded a few for friends, and feel like I have already learned the skill, and I know about how long it takes to mod one, so it probably isn't worth my time (other than it's pretty fun).

    Thanks for your input.

well these things are cheap as in... cheap

    What a definition ... :P

In your mind, does "cheap" mean a small amount of money, or lack of quality? Back when these things were made they were high quality. But you are correct in that they can be had for ... "cheap", as in low amounts of money, if you know where to look.

Yeah I know they are pretty cheap unmodded, just wondering if there was a demand for them with the A/V mod. Thanks for the post.

Thanks, I think that I've made my decision, I'll probably mod it and keep it (even though I have 3 others).

  7. It involves getting a new chord and rewiring the inside (removing the chip, since the 2600 can't read it anyways)

What, you planning on making a DDR type of game? Or just want to play Decathalon with it (that would be cool)

I have a few ideas, but more I was just curious (and this is the first time I've ever owned a powerpad).

that would be cool. if it works you gotta tell how you done it

    Will do.

I suspect that since the pad has twelve buttons, it has to duplex to be able to send all the input to the system. The Genesis controllers were the same way... a chip inside the pad would rapidly alternate between two different voltages, with half the button input sent to the console on the high voltage and the other half sent on the low voltage. It's why Genesis controllers are compatible with the Atari 2600... that system only reads the high voltages and doesn't recognize the other buttons.

Anyway, if you were willing to cut up a Power Pad (or just the casing on the top where the electronics lie) you could probably rewire it for the two 2600 controller ports. Assign the top four buttons on one side as directional inputs, then the bottom two as buttons. The 2600 is compatible with a second button on a controller, but it has to be specifically told how, and not many games require a second button. I think the system can even recognize the two different ways a second button can be read on the controller... the Master System/Genesis way, and the Booster Grip/ColecoVision/7800 way.

Oh! Here are the specs for the Power Pad in case you wanted them. Yep, it seems to work somewhat similarly to Sega Genesis controllers.

Thanks for your ideas, but I wanted to have the powerpad act like the keyboard controller, not like the joystick. Thanks for the link, it was a little over my head.

Here is a picture of the keypad controller that I wanted to imitate:

  8. I have a 4 switch woody 2600 and I was planning on selling it. About how much do they sell for unmodded, and how much would it sell for if I modded it? I'm just trying to figure out if it is worth the time to do this. Thanks in advance.

  9. I was reading the guide on AA that describes the process of modding an NES controller to be used with an Atari 2600, and it got me thinking about modding my NES power pad to work with the 2600 like the keypad controller.

    (1) Is this possible?

    (2) If so, where would I start?

    Thanks.
