  1. That made me laugh. It's always cool when a gamer, much less a random gaming reference, pops up where you least expect it. Most of the readers of this article will probably not even get it, but I am proud of it. It's obvious proof that the gaming culture has become mainstream.
  2. If this actually ever happens, I will feel bad for the variant collectors.
  3. There's no need to get nasty. I already said that I appreciate the SNES as well. If I had written a counterpoint about why the SNES kicks ass, I'd still be writing that first post. I was just using the Sega/Nintendo thing as an example of how idiotic fanboy rants are. I admit I do have a certain emotional bias towards Sega, but I have noticed a lot more Nintendo fans bashing Sega than vice-versa lately. Besides, it's just one part of a much larger issue. People are still acting like toddlers over what systems are better than others today.
  4. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s-ykMhv51UI This? I think he confused a Saturn with a 32X, he sucks at Tempest, thinks Wolfenstien 3D was released for Genesis, and doesn't understand the difference between a cartridge and a CD. This kid is annoying. I want to punch him in the balls. This kid is completely uninformed and flat out wrong at multiple points and keeps repeating misinformation over and over... I can go on and on while I'm watching this. This shit gets 100,000+ hits? Unbelievable. Jaguar is one of my top five least favorite consoles, and I can't even stand this. Every one of his reviews makes me cry a little bit. I remember debating with this guy on the Jaguar and he actually had the nerve to call me an "Atari fanboy" when I defended the Jag. I see he's disabled comments now, very nice... I noticed that, kind of funny. Never seen that guy's videos before, but I watched a few minutes of his Saturn "review" and had to shut it off. I've never even touched a Saturn and can tell he's an idiot. I doubt he even hooked it up before recording that. Judging by his profile info, he apparently considers himself an elite intellectual. He'll probably go into politics. That's one business where you can go far by lecturing everyone on things you know nothing about. Meh, it wasn't that bad. I can't speak for any of his other reviews, but that one was ok. Yes, he made some factual errors and didn't give some of the games enough of a chance, but I still felt that he was expressing a genuine opinion. I could definitely understand his point of view. BTW, gdement, that line about politics being the only business where you can get away with lecturing people about things you know nothing about? That is universal truth. Anyway, my big pet peeve is console fanboyism to the point of obnoxiousness. You know, where a person refuses to accept that their favorite console's rivals did anything right. I've seen a lot of people make completely baseless accusations against the Sega Genesis because they are an SNES fanboy. Things like: "Genesis games are all flash and no substance." My answer: Have you even played any of the games? Some of them are masterpieces that were never available on any other console at the time. One example: Gunstar Heroes is definitely one of the most interesting, creative, and fun "run and gun" games of all time. "The SNES is more advanced in every way." Answer: I suppose that's why Earthworm Jim and Toy Story have more levels and features in the Genesis version. "The Genesis had a bunch of add-ons that failed so badly that it killed the original system." Answer: The Sega CD is greatly underrated. Some of the best games of the era were for it, like Snatcher, Sonic CD, Lunar, Popful Mail, etc. And it actually sold decently. "Genesis has no good and original RPG's." Answer: SNES may have more RPGs that Genesis, and a lot of them are definitely classics of the genre, but that doesn't mean that the Genesis was worthless for RPG fans. Phantasy Star was doing Sci-Fi RPGs and permanently killing off party members before the end of the game LONG before Final Fantasy VII made those ideas mainstream. Super Hydlide fixes most of the mistakes made by the original NES game. Shining Force was one of the Strategy RPGs that made the genre popular. Lunar (for the Sega CD) was a big step for everything we love about RPGs today. That doesn't mean that I'm a Sega fanboy, I love both the SNES and Sega Genesis. The SNES has a lot of fantastic games, like Actraiser, Starfox, Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger, and many more. Yes, I grew up with a Genesis, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate its competition. And besides, there are many horrible things said about the SNES by Sega fans. What brought this issue to the surface for me was an article on an upcoming homebrew RPG for the Genesis, Pier Solar. I was reading an article on it at Destructoid, and I was appalled at the comments, where it seemed more that half of them were either: "When's it coming out on SNES?" or what really made me shake my head in disbelief, comments that were kinda like this: "How DARE they make this game for Genesis! SNES 4 LIFE!!!!!11111" Seriously, it was like that. I think they're just mad that the Genny is finally getting an RPG that they're jealous of, and now their "no good RPGs" argument doesn't hold any water. Seriously, any gamer who is so obsessed with a classic console that they hate its competition this much, has issues.
  5. Wow! This is great! Fun, but hard. I kept getting my butt kicked by the boss on the beach, but that might be because I didn't level up enough. Anyways, keep up the great work!
  6. All right, I can't take it anymore. Here's my opinion: Eduardo...you're being just as big a jerk as David. I wish I didn't have to say it, but it's true. What David did was very wrong, but throwing a tantrum and punishing all the real fans who have been waiting excitedly for your upcoming games and projects (and I proudly include myself in this group) is only making things MUCH worse. Steve didn't mean to upset you over the MegaCart (I think), but don't jump on him for what was hopefully an honest mistake. The real person we should be angry about is David, not Steve. David, as big of a jerk as he is for putting up the ROMs in the first place, has taken them down and doesn't appear to be selling the CD anymore, either. I understand that you must be feeling vulnerable after what David did, but let's not be hasty, let's advance with caution. (First person to catch the game reference in the last sentence gets a smiley.) If you make this decision to close OpCode Games final, piracy wins, because it will be the only way to cherish the great work you've created, whether that work was entirely legal or not. It will make the problem worse, because the thing that angered you will become the only way to play your games. After I bought my first game from you, Yie Ar Kung Fu, I loved it so much, that I wrote a review of it for Retrogaming Times Monthly, where I stated that it was better than the original MSX version that it was based upon. At the end of the review, I posted a link to the OpCode website, encouraging people to buy your games. I did that because I respected that game so much that I wanted others to experience it like I did. I did it because I respected you and your hard work. Please don't throw away that respect by doing this. I love classic systems, and I decided to go with ColecoVision instead of Intellivision because Coleco had more going on; more homebrews. I wanted to support that. In other words, you were one of the reasons that I got this system. I don't want that decision to be hurt by this incident. This is the second time I've seen something like this happen on the internet, and it ended in this exact same way. I don't want history to repeat itself, and if I just stand by and let it happen, I have a feeling that I'll regret it for the rest of my life. Hence this post. Please don't go through with this; don't let bitterness cause a rash decision that will make the problem worse. I beg you.
  7. That is epic badassness! I love it! Some general comments: -I love the idea of an RPG on Coleco; that is one genre that has always been lacking on the system. -I love the look of the fighting mode; it has just the right blend of arcade action and RPG technicality. -The initial encounter screen really intrigues me; so many different options and possibilities! Some questions: -Why does it switch to a third-person view in the cave? -How does that health system for each part of the body work? Will having certain sections of the body critically injured cause side effects? (Example: Having your arm severely wounded causes your dexterity and other such stats to be temporarily affected, while severe head wounds could cause death, etc.)
  8. Awesome! Put me on the waiting list for a CIB copy.
  9. From what I can gather from the thread you've linked to, the ADAM version was incomplete, buggy, and never released. Besides, not many people own an ADAM. I still think this is a good idea if it is at all possible.
  10. This is probably a stretch for the ColecoVision, even with the SGM, but since the system is lacking in RPGs, what about Temple of Apshai? We did get the prequel, Gateway to Apshai, after all.
  11. Sega Genesis is one of my all time favorite systems. Count me in.
  12. A first-person, RPG with a real-time raycasting engine on Coleco!? ... Dibs on Beta Testing! Seriously, though; this looks absolutely amazing and I can't wait to play it!
  13. Playing OpCode's port of Yie Ar Kung-Fu for the first time was pretty special for me. I had played the Arcade version on MAME, and then later on, I played the MSX version, but the ColecoVision version was special because it was a better-than-perfect port of the MSX version. The new 2 Player Vs. Mode adds a whole new dimension to the game. It was fun playing it with my little sister, even though she would only play as the bosses and would kick my ass. I actually chose to get the ColecoVision over the Intellivision because the CV had more homebrews. I was also excited about what is now called the Super Game Module. So, thank you, OpCode Games! You convinced me to support ColecoVision!
  14. I also don't care for the title. It doesn't add anything to the game except juvenile humor for juvenile humor's sake. I know I wouldn't buy a game with a title that made me feel "unclean" just reading it. I've played the game, and seriously, the game is fun enough without needing to have an "unclean" title. It's completely unnecessary! There's plenty of much better ways to add "quirky humor" without resorting to being dirty. The pandas spoofing Contra is a great example. Besides, I won't even consider buying the game unless you change the title to something far less disgusting. I do not wish to be thinking about genital mutilation while playing Atari. It's as simple as that. I don't buy your "Panda Guilt" explanation for not changing the title either. Game:  Title:
  15. Arjak

    AtariVox rev2

I'll definitely buy one; I've been wanting to get my hands on an AtariVox for a long time so I can enjoy Juno First to the fullest when I get it!
  16. Being a fan of the MSX and it's games, I have a question about the sound of the ColecoVision ports OpCode will be making that will utilize the Super Game Module. Many MSX games (especially those made by Konami) utilized extra sound hardware for better music and sound (Konami used what was called the SCC Cartridge). Now that the OKI sound chip is to be part of the SGM, would it be possible to mimic such sound add-ons for the MSX? If so, would you consider adding this to your MSX ports that originally supported these sound add-ons in their MSX originals? Perhaps the player could select whether they want standard or upgraded sound on an option screen, or even toggle between the two at the press of a button. Not to create more work for you, but I think this would be a great feature that would not only improve the game, but its "authenticity."
  17. 25,410 I made it to the Silly Race, the farthest I've ever gotten, so I don't think I'm going to do much better than this.
  18. Let me get this straight: You mean to tell me that the CV2 you guys are working on is better than the CV1 with the SEM, and will have games that only work on the CV2!? Damn you! I've already bought a CV1 in excitement over the SEM!
  19. I think Dragon Slayer II is actually pretty good! I would love to play it on a ColecoVision!
  20. If Knightmare is being done, then I believe Maze of Galious is a must! I can't get anywhere in it and I still love it! Golvelious (sp?) is an action RPG similar to Zelda. It is a must, also!
  21. The new issue has my first review in it. Hope you all enjoy it!
  22. I recently had an idea for a column for RTM. So I sent an email to the editor offering to write for them, and guess what? THEY ACCEPTED! I'm now going to be writing a column on homebrews every month for RTM! This February: Collin "Arjak" Pierce IS... The Homebrew Sleuth! I like the sound of that!
