So pissed.. finally bit the bullet and bought a Smartphone, basically to be able to get a public transportation app. Now I hear the app won't work on my phone because I need a NFC chip. F***! I hope the Cricket store can install one for me..

I have no idea what an NFC chip is. Is it just a special kind of SIM card?
I recently had to get a new phone because the apps for my work needed a certain OS level for Android. What a pain! I decided to switch providers (and lower my bill) while I was at it, so it all worked out good. My phone plan is now $15 per month, which is $20 less than before! -
NFC = Near Field Communication. You tap it on an NFC reader to complete certain kinds of transactions. These are typically found on credit cards, government IDs, and recent-ish smartphones. It's not the kind of thing that you can install after the fact, it should be built in. You might want to get the Cricket store to swap out your hardware for you. If this is a new purchase, that shouldn't be a problem, but you'll probably have to pay a little more for a better device.
