  1. King Of The Monsters.. is just one of those games I'm not sure I'll ever quite get the hang of.  The controls don't feel right, the grappling moves don't happen when I want them to, the computer always seems to come back when they get their ass whooped, etc.

I am not much of a fan of fighting games, but I love this one. I actually bought the Neo Geo collection for the PS 2 because this game was included. My favourite character is Beetle Mania.

I do agree, however, that it is extremely difficult to pin the computer opponent. The character upgrades never seem to make much of a difference.

Yeah, the controls just suck out loud.  Also, if you're laying the smackdown early on, the computer shouldn't start winning all the grappling matches just to even the playing field.

@retrorussell Oooh! King of the Monsters. Now your talking Russ. A personal top favorite for me and my brother. Spent many quarters playing it this gem of a title in a local Dairy Queen growing up in Paramus, NJ. Amazing times it was for us for sure. :)

  2. Enjoying making another 1991 time capsule.  Go Ninja Go Ninja Go!

  3. Stuck on LUNAR: ETERNAL BLUE for the Sega CD.  Has anyone else tried to fly the Dragon Destiny and it simply won't let you steer it?  I've gotten over 2/3 of the game completed and I need to get to the Red Dragon cave.  I can't finish the game if I can't steer the ship!  I am using a cheat hack so maybe that's it, though I was able to steer it previously.

    1. retrorussell

      retrorussell

Update: yep, the cheat hack corrupted things and I was suddenly missing an item I needed to advance in the game.  Got the item (again) and saved after I flew the ship to my next destination.  Hope that doesn't happen again!

  4. Open Condom Style!

  5. Bit off more than I could chew.. got a super long tactical RPG going (Shining Force CD) and the only thing to complete it faster is using a hex editor.  I watched several videos and googled several help forums, and I can't understand it for the life of me.  Quite certain I never will.

  6. The supposedly great Protection Ring trick in Shining Force CD doesn't seem to be that useful.. am I doing it wrong?

  7. What version of GAME SHARK is mostly likely to work on a Playstation 2 used for PSX games?  I have CDX 3.3 and it doesn't work..

The PS One Gameshark Code Archive Disc (the purple one) worked on PS2 if I remember correctly.

^ Wow, thanks!  I will check that out!

  8. Ugh... NO idea how to properly set up controls in Eternal Champions for the Sega CD using a keyboard (emulator is Kega Fusion).  I want to set up kick buttons for A S D (ABC on Sega pad) and punch buttons for Q W E (XYZ on Sega pad).  Any ideas?  I'll post this on a Sega forum as well.

    1. retrorussell

      retrorussell

Oh jeez.. never mind.  I went into controls in the emulator and actually PULLED DOWN the tab for 3-button control pad to find.. drum roll.. 6-button control setup!  Once I mapped the controls to that the game responded correctly.  How about that sh*t!

  9. I hate how a dishwasher that normally does a great job just decides one day to basically take a crap on your dishes, no matter what dishwashing liquid/pod/rinse agent you use.

      x=usr(1536)

Absolute necessity for us.  My wife and I both cook, so the volume of pots, pans, dishes, etc. that we generate in a single day would be difficult to keep up with by hand.  Our kitchen also has what I can only describe as a somewhat crap layout, so not having a drying rack on the counter next to the sink is a huge plus.

What we did find was that in order for this specific model of appliance to do a decent job, it's absolutely necessary to use the prewash function - basically, add a soap pac to the usual spot, but also fill the prewash container with gel dishwashing soap.  Doing that pretty much eliminates the need to rewash items that don't get clean with just the pacs alone.

Also, as @thanatos mentioned, the Technology Connections episode on dishwashers is actually well worth a watch:

I love my Dishwasher!  Don't know what I'd do without it.  I'll sometimes throw in some pre-wash soap or even splash some vinegar around before using.  They say it prevents water spots,...Not that mine ever has those.  I just rinse a dish after using, or throw it in the sink...And once I fill and use my Dishwasher every dish comes out beyond sparkling clean,  almost without exception.

In fact,  my friend's mom sometimes makes me veggie lasagna and when I'm done the glass pan always looks...Thrashed! like it could never be cleaned,  but a couple of hours in my dishwasher, and it looks brand new and crystal clear!

      retrorussell

Thanks for the suggestions folks.  I almost never have this issue; I don't get spots ever, but once in a great while it just doesn't remove food chunks.  I make sure to rinse the dishes really well before putting them in.  An hour might not be long enough sometimes I guess.  I hope Cascade is one of the better pod brands; that's what I'm using.  I'll look at the video and link; thanks very much!

  10. Hope you all had a very Merry Christmas.  Mine was low-key with a little bit of family and yummy food, which was just perfect.

I mainly remember when it first appeared in the arcade.   After a dry spell,  it was something different and it was very well liked, for a short period of time before something else great came along.

Ice Cream Sunday and Road Blasters... good times.

      thanatos

I always loved RoadBlasters, wasn't too bad at it.

Hard/Race Drivin' not so much - though at a free play arcade like Galloping Ghost, they are more fun.  Otherwise those two just ate money and were too choppy.

Kyuukyoku Tiger is an incredible game that literally changed shooting games forever with its introduction of the cycling red/green/blue/yellow powerup icon, as it was the first shooter to ever have that, and now that cycling powerup is common in many shooting games. Twin Cobra, the international version of Kyuukyoku Tiger, is significantly different from Kyuukyoku Tiger, as well, so definitely consider checking out the differences. Kyuukyoku Tiger is way more difficult than Twin Cobra is, though...

  13. I'd love to see a reboot of the PS1 Clock Tower.  With MUCH better voice acting, better graphics and more gory deaths!

  15. God have mercy on my soul.. I'm playing 720 EMULATED with mouse control.  Any hints on how to set up Analog Controls in MAME?

  16. Without a proper steering wheel (like emulated) Super Sprint is DAMN hard.

Also...I'd just like to point out that while I always considered it a PRETTY GOOD Sprint,...I'm not sure it ever was a SUPER Sprint!

    3. retrorussell

      retrorussell

@GoldLeader Of course, playing the follow-up doesn't really make you feel like a Champion.

    4. MrMaddog

      MrMaddog

Racing games like Super Sprint and Pole Position do not use analog steering but optical spinners which are read digitally by the machine.  So instead of using the X-axis of an analog joystick in MAME, just map the joystick to the "Steer Left" and "Steer Right" which are used by the arrow keys.

You may have to adjust the digital speed in the Analog section to get the right feel, but trust me it works much better that way.

@BydoEmpire Yep; I remember that well.  I'm glad the Pacific NW at least got a championship for the first time in forever, but I do get sick of the Seahawks and their whiny coach.. and ALL the breaks they get their way.

The 2003 Divisional Rd vs. the Eagles has to hurt too-- allowing a 4th and 26 conversion in regulation to allow the Eagles to send it to OT.  Ridiculous.

    3. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

Oh god, that was the worst in a long time... I remembered it as 4th and 21... but makes no difference, it sucked.

  19. Yuck-- gotta read the label thoroughly before buying mayonnaise.  I got Light Mayo last time-- yuck!  Not only better for you (bleargh) but tastes like ass.

Does Olive Oil mayo taste better? I considered trying it, but it looked more like a marketing gimmick as there was very little olive oil in the ingredients list.

I think olive oil mayo is nasty. Probably all oil based mayo is nasty.

  20. Jeez, YouTube.. why do you chew off the end of some of my videos?

  21. Pringles to me seems kind of blah these days.  But their Wavy Sweet & Spicy BBQ chips are a pleasant surprise!

@GoldLeader They went on clearance price; that's how I saw them.  The Doritos Sweet & Spicy is really good but this had more of a kick to them.  Hope you can get a hold of some.

  22. It saddens me that any pair of shoes I buy last around a half year or less.  Toe comes apart, sides split, heel wears out, etc.

Maybe try Altras - they feature a wide toe box, which is excellent and IMHO is the way shoes should be. I can't wear them anymore because after about revision 3 they started to make the uppers too narrow.  Earlier on they were perfect.  They're made for runners so they might last a little longer.  Worth trying some.

The thing on Any shoe is,...Buy multiple pairs and rotate them.  If you wear any shoe every day it will wear out quickly, but even buying 2 pair and giving it a day off makes them last longer, (I've always heard)...Seems to work for me...Hell I've still got some British Knights in my collection from 1996!

  23. Man, I can sure while away the hours watching old movie trailers.  Kind of fun to see how quickly I can identify them.

Your Update reminds me of my friend who had some DVD that cycled through posters of all the old black and white sci-fi and monster movies.  He'd put it on in the background on one wall, using his projector while we'd be chatting, drinking beer, watching clips on his computer, etc.

I've thought about maybe buying one of those 42ND STREET FOREVER! DVDs full of exploitation film trailers.  Though you can still see trailer collections on YouTube.
