  1. Hope you all had a Happy Easter!

To belatedly celebrate the historical anniversary of this great thread, I have a video review of FATAL FURY in my top 20 arcade games from 1991 list.  Loved this in the arcades, and this game was the first title I'd actually seen in a NEO GEO arcade machine (a year after the cabinet's release).  I had just moved back to Portland after about 5 years in Auburn/Federal Way, WA and I saw this at the department store I'd get employed at.  I don't recall if it had a 2nd game on its cabinet, but they later put MUTATION NATION on it with FF.  I still really enjoy this one, though FF2, FF Special and Real Bout FF Special I prefer much more.

    Hi guys,

You know what today is fellas??

 Today marks the 10th year anniversary of "The Official NEO-GEO Thread" on Atariage.com!

That's awesome Anthony!  I had no idea!

If my current "20 From 1991" game wasn't so difficult (Terminator 2: Judgement Day) I would've been able to work on FATAL FURY in commemoration.  Well, that'll be coming up later.

  3. Another NEO GEO game review upload, this one is #10 in my top 20 games of 1991.  It's KING OF THE MONSTERS, a title that can be very frustrating to play but undoubtedly captures the feel of the giant monster films (i.e., Godzilla, Mothra, Ghidra, Gamera, Rodan, etc.) as you battle monsters over a Japanese metropolis, crushing all manner of vehicles, buildings and humans beneath your feet.  Very cool!  As is custom with my 10th and 20th placed game video in the yearly series, there's a bit of 1991 trivia added to the beginning, so apologies in advance if that's not your thing.

  4. CARNIVAL

Frying during play may cause the graphics to go funky.  Some of the targets may completely unrecognizable (usually the ones for extra bullets), and the ducks may have bizarre flight patterns.  Some of the funky targets may not be destroyed, making it so you can't finish the stage.  Also, the pipes (Ferris Wheel) may not be visible, though you may be able to shoot them.

If you fry during the demo, the computer-controlled gun may have infinite bullets-- the ducks can eat them but the gun hits bonus bullet targets enough to keep the level high.  It has a back and forth while firing motion that won't likely hit the pipes enough to finish the stage before the game demo resets.

    Dig Dug: 999990 (Rollage)

The game starts giving you extra lives again after you roll the score, including a bonus life at 1M.  This significantly extends a game if you're on your last life.

The glitched boards started appearing for me at 1.2M and my game ended at 1.7M.  Overall, I think the glitched boards are easier.  The enemy enclosures appear in odd places, but I don't ever remember seeing two enemies start in the same enclosure.  The downside is the scoring potential is reduced.  Some of the boards only have one boulder and others don't have any boulders, making it impossible to get the 8k pineapple to appear.  Even boards with two boulders can be a challenge to get the pineapple.  If the enemies are too aggressive, you'll have to kill all of them before you can release both boulders.

    Damn, that's impressive!

If you would like to submit it to the DIG DUG THREAD-- and any more information you have about the 2600 version (or other versions, including the arcade original), feel free to contribute!

    SPIDER-MAN

Wonky building hijinks!  Fry during the main screen or during play perhaps, and Spider-Man will likely start falling as the building structure looks very odd-- and may go on forever!  You can stop yourself from falling by slinging a web on the building surface.  You seem to have unlimited web fluid.  The building may be so haphazardly constructed that you may not be able to climb all the way (if there even IS a top).

  7. DIG DUG

Some weird stuff with this one.  You can fry at the title screen or during a game.  This will most likely screw up the right half of the screen, to the point that moving to the right digs out the maze to the left of you, and vice versa (so it sort of works as the reverse of the left side of the screen).  And digging vertically will remove dirt a handful of shafts away.  Very odd-looking.  This may also make Dig Dug and a monster invisible.  But the game is still playable.  The best benefit of the trick is that the monsters DO NOT TURN INTO GHOSTS!  Therefore they cannot exit their enclosed spaces until you free them.  The game may be screwy but once you get used to this the game may be easier.

    Hi Russ,

Thank you for stopping by to share your excellent playthrough and review of Ninja Combat for the Neo-Geo. I remember playing this game for the first time at a local Dairy Queen in Paramus, NJ with my brother. Soon after, we always use to play co-op and would defeat the game together most of the time. I believe Ninja Combat was the most defeated title we done so on the Neo-Geo. Fond memories and certainly miss those days growing up.

Heh.. World Heroes was the one I always beat up on.  Such an easy game!

Muncher a decent Pac clone lol. If it had cut scenes it would be perfect.
