  1. Time for another weird one: PIONEER BALLOON (1982 SNK/ROCK-OLA) Bizarre game similar to FANTASY-- a possible spiritual sequel at least-- but only with the hot air balloon sequences. Here you can drop bombs from your balloon (or some sort of projectile) as you fly over Old West prairies, the sea, and a fortress. You must avoid projectiles from covered wagons (?!), native Americans' arrows, ape-thrown coconuts, birds, typhoons, and horseback riders' projectiles (?). "The Yellow Rose Of Texas" and "The Great Escape" theme (!) are notable tunes. Strange... I saw this only once in the wild at the Oregon coast arcade FUNLAND probably in the late 80s. I think it was out of order.

  3. This was my first purchase from a wings store today.  Wingstop was surprisingly good!

Wingstop is great!  Try the Atomic if you're feeling super brave.  I can only have about 3 before the suffering is too great.  :)

Nope; super hot is not really my thing.  I have been told Korean BBQ was really good.  I was most pleased with the seasoning on their fries and their ranch.

  4. That's beautiful! Terrific work! The sound samples make me think of Thayer's Quest.

  6. I still can't look at the sports word GOAT and not think "a player that cost their team a victory".

  7. Happy Birthday NEO GEO thread! Just a quick contribution; An old video I did that I may not have linked here: FANTASY (1981 SNK/Rock-Ola) Weird old game by SNK nearly a decade before the NEO GEO, this was licensed to the jukebox giant ROCK-OLA. Here's to another great 6 years of NEO GEO or SNK memories! I remember seeing this at Malibu Gran Prix, Wunderland and an ice cream restaurant called FARRELL'S. Multi-level game with some annoying voice samples (Help Meeee!!! Heeeeelp!!!-- you'd think it was Ashley from Resident Evil 4!) but playable nonetheless. Created in 1981 in Japan and released in the US in 1982. Congrats again on a great 6 years, Anthony!
  8. The status update window doesn't seem to work too often these days.  Usually I click on it and nothing happens.

Hasn't worked on my iPad (latest iOS) for a while. Have to go to your profile to post a status update. Software so broken these days, new normal it seems.

@Random Terrain I have Windows 10.  It used to work no problem but it's messed up lately.  I click in the box and nothing happens at all.

I have the same problem.  It will work sometimes but most of the time it doesn't.

I have been singing it that way for years!  Goes best with Cabo Wabo.

  12. Cool, thanks! I will check that out. I don't know how to get a hold of the creator of Nostalgia to ask if a future version could be more controller-friendly. But they might be done with it.
  13. Hmm.. now the emulator DOES recognize the left stick for the disc controller, but not the right stick for keypad controls 0-9/clr/ent. That would be my ideal setup, along with L1/L2/R1/R2 shoulder buttons for the action buttons. But Nostalgia won't allow mapping for these. And this is the latest version. Shame, because I otherwise like Nostalgia.
  14. Thanks! Downloaded it but still not sure how to get it to work. In Configure Joystick Devices/Advanced Setting For Each Device it seems to recognize my dual analog sticks I want to use for keypad/dial. But in Profile 1 I can't map analog stick 1 to, say, Stick1 movement. I double click Stick1 for left direction and it won't let me assign it to analog joystick left. Hopefully the joytokey website will be able to help me.
  15. I'm using Nostalgia. It doesn't seem to want to let you map dual analog joysticks, which would have been much better.
  16. There's plenty of games I like but have rough controls (like Tron DD, NS and Adv. D&D)-- the controls issue frustrates me most because I'm playing them through an emulator. The controls are a bitch to set up and the emulator only allows for 3 of the side buttons, it seems. And I have a "Intellivision Top 20" YouTube series forthcoming. Arrgh!
  17. I was thinking b17 bomber was this way. I could probably think of some other titles if i gave more thought to it. It seems maybe a number of sports titles were like that. I just hate that inty controller with a passion.
  18. I find various aspects of the inty very visually pleasing-- the gold plating on the console, the forest green title screen with colored bars at the top, the superior music and graphics over the atari 2600.. But the controls do consistently frustrate me. And atari had a better color palette.
  19. I wasn't crazy about it either but it is a very faithful port. There are so many games that had the potential to be great but the overabundance of buttons required to play (both keypad and sometimes all 4 side buttons) made me break down in frustration. Especially when I'm playing on an emulator without overlays to look at.
  20. I'm trying to do a "top 20" series of Intellivision videos.. but man, the controls are so horrid for that system.  Too many damn buttons!

Depends on the game I think.  The disc and the numeric keypad are fine, it's those awful side buttons.  Some games are well-designed to avoid the side-buttons: sports games, Astrosmash, Q*bert, Night Stalker, Shark Shark, etc.

  21. After playing Diner for a while it doesn't seem like a good game to me. I mean, the potential for really high scores is certainly there, but I don't find a whole lot else to like personally-- just roll meatballs over enemies over and over again. And any game where there's free roaming on a 3D platform and enemies can reach you when you're not even on their plane (wonky hit detection) I get a bit miffed. But everyone else seems to love it.
  22. Yeah, Worm Whomper doesn't feel terribly original or clever to me. Just another "keep the bad guys from reaching you" game. Carnival I enjoy too. It's annoying, however; when you have to place the gun just right to take out the ferris wheel due to typically bad Inty controls, and with the music resetting each time you shoot something. How the hell does that happen? I never hear any accolades about Super Cobra but I think it's fantastic! Why though, does the score/fuel indicator scroll off the screen?
  23. Hey all. What games for the inty does everyone seem to love and you're considerably less enthused, meh or worse about-- OR that you really like and no one else seems to? I'm feeling that about a number of inty games lately.. I don't know that I will ever "love" an inty game due to seldom being able to stop on a dime, and the horrible controller. But i do enjoy a good number of them. One that bugs me though.. THUNDER CASTLE! God.. The knight is so damn slow and getting energized so you can kill your foes doesn't make you any faster. I find this frustrating and people seem to love this game. Anyone else have inty games they feel different about than the general consensus?
