  1. Bosconian's pretty easy IMHO. Just don't take too long or the enemies go nutso and bombard you like crazy to the tune of "CONDITION RED!!!" "CONDITION RED!!!", etc.

Maketrax is hard to get past more than a handful of rounds. The fish are pretty smart. Though it's tempting to smush the stupid bird, feet, tire, etc. that add more tracks they really help you, since you move faster when wiping trails, as opposed to moving across clean floorspace, where the fish can catch up to you.

I own a Phoenix cabinet. It's fairly easy to pass all the levels at least a few times when you implement some basic strategies.. especially on the egg round, where you stay at the edges mostly as the birds/eggs slow down when they reach them. Also, using the infamous 3 diagonal bird trick (shoot 3 diagonal flying birds in 2 seconds to score 200,000 points)and letting the mothership come all the way down before destroying it for 9,000 or so points boosts your score a good deal.

I pretty much agree with 3-7 being tough. I was never particularly good at those.

  2. I have World Heroes, World Heroes Perfect, Bust-A-Move, Fatal Fury Special, Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Neo Bomberman, Waku Waku 7, Samurai Shodown II, SNK vs. Capcom, Metal Slug X, King Of Fighters 2003, and Art Of Fighting 2.

The ones I want really bad are Super Dodge Ball and Viewpoint; those are the ones that'll cost me an arm and a leg on Ebay. Forget it!

  3. I did something similar but on a much smaller scale with printouts of arcade flyers.

I printed out Pong, Computer Space, Sea Wolf, shark Jaws, Astro Invader, Space Invaders and Galaxian 8.5 x 11 flyers you can find off the net. I bought cheap frames from Salvation Army, spray painted the frames with fluorescent orange and yellow paint and hung them below the black lights in the Retrocade. It looks really sweet.

Can you show some pics? I'd like to see them.

  4. That it incredibly cool. Those marquees look great. I have a bunch of them in a box but they're not all in new condition. How did you attach them to your wall?

Uh.. cheapo scotch tape. You can see a couple coming off. :)~

I basically wanted to get the more popular/influential ones over the years. I felt bad about missing out on some good ones (Satan's Hollow, Tank, Domino Man, etc.) but overall I think I had a pretty good selection. Thanks for the props all!

  5. I have a pic of the marquee scans I have on my wall. A hell of a lot cheaper than the real thing. 195 in all; I just thought since my wall was bare and it could use a little sprucing up, it might be a neat idea. The games are (obviously, not all are seen):

  6. I was lucky to have gone to quite a few in my youth. I've racked my brains to think of some more that I haven't mentioned before on this thread:

    In the Portland Metro area:

The mini-arcade at Rico's Red Lion Pizza (now Round Table) on Capitol and Barbur

The nickel arcade (can't remember its name, something like Fun Palace) by Dunkin' Donuts in Raleigh Hills

A nickel arcade off of Sandy Blvd. WAY out in NE Portland, that had a LOT of weird/obscure machines

The Organ Grinder Pizza out in SE Portland had GREAT pizza and a GREAT arcade

    also:

    Space Gang Pizza in Vancouver

The Gold Mine at the Sea/Tac Mall

  7. Updates in the arcade industry involving classic games generally work out quite well, unlike the movie industry involving updating classic films. I really think a Scramble update could work out. Shot upgrades, more levels, boss fights, animated cutscenes, etc. would make it more enjoyable. I love the original too, but there can always be ways to successfully upgrade it.

  8. My favorite 2-player game of all time is Kings Of The Beach for the NES.

The NHL series for the Sega Genesis, where one-timing was first available, is pretty killer for 2-player gaming as well. Slow-mo'ing those replayed one-timer goals is so sweet.

Double Dragon II was nice as well.. and on games where you could accidentally hit your partner, I'd try to draw the enemy to one half of the screen while the other player would take the other (like the top half, the other take the bottom half).

  9. Space Duel.

    Bump And Jump.

    Millipede.

These have already been done for the 2600...

    Except for Space Duel

I just recently found out about B&J and Millipede. Cool!

Monster Bash is another one that I'd like to see. Actually, if someone could hack the arcade one and put in Jason and Freddy, and maybe Pinhead or Michael Meyers that would be REALLY cool!

  10. Thanks for those facts so Atari obviously noticed how cool Robotron 2084 was took a look at Gravitar(which wasn't bad)

but maybe wasnt performing and came up with Black Widow.I love both games.

    No problem.

I got my info from my MAME32 program history tab. It shows the month and year of most games. It said Robotron March of 1982 and Black Widow December of 1982. Thinking back to when I first saw those games it seems about right to me.

  11. I used to like playing Black Widow when I was a kid.I was curious as to which came out first in 1982 Atari's Black Widow or William's Robotron 2084 ? Both have a very similar Game Dynamic although obviously Robotron was a much more intense experience.Black Widow was maybe aimed at a younger gamer. Curious that Black Widow was never really ported to home computers and consoles but like Robotron this was probably due to the sophisticated control mechanism. The Black Widow Grenade Bug was something very different than any of the Robotron enemies.Perhaps the Grenade Bug inspired the exploding Shrapnel Man in Smash TV.The Bug Slayer was another cool enemy. It wouldn't kill you but would compete against you to pick up points from other destroyed bugs

Robotron came out about 9 months earlier than Black Widow; Robotron about March and Widow about December of 1982. Never really played much Widow for some reason but I did pump some quarters into Robotron. I certainly admired its crazy action and neat sound effects.
