Yeah, go for it! I was ecstatic with my first purchase and even though I don't really play it that often anymore I like looking at it and knowing I can play it anytime I want (Phoenix). Just know there is maintenance involved and something WILL break down at one point or another. Learn some soldering, and learn how to replace cap kits. Also, and this is big, learn how to disconnect the anode SAFELY before doing the above. But it will be worth it. Especially when trying for high scores you'll post on Atari Age!

Memories of where and when you first played/saw this game

Kind of how I felt. I mean, the graphics were good but I thought the Milliennium Falcon and AT/ST levels were kind of dull. And the voices weren't that great (actually a common occurence of the day with voices, sounded a bit similar to the ones in Nintendo's Arm Wrestling.. very goofy voices. And with such a known commodity as Star Wars characters it was kind of laughable. -

Damnit.. I was at Ground Kontrol last night and blew away my old hi score on Ms Pac-Man by a mile! Only had a cell phone camera so I couldn't take a good pic. So my score won't count as I don't have proof. Got 235,860. And 117,770 on Galaga. Pooey! -

Good choice for a new game! Let's make it official: RETURN OF TH E JEDI (1984, Atari) I didn't really care for this game.. no longer is it a vector first-person shooter but it shifts to an uncomfortable 3/4 perspective ala Zaxxon. You shoot down enemies from astride your speeder while the Ewoks help trap some of them. Then it's basically an obstacle course, flying the Millenium Falcon on your way to destroy a reactor. Then another speeder level, then pilot an AT-ST, then the Falcon, to destroy a star destroyer. I didn't care for this game much; the voice effects weren't very good. -
Sang Pac-Man Fever at karaoke last night in memory of Mr. Garcia.

I think the first one I saw was Hogan's Alley. Who the hell is Hogan? -
RIP, Gary Garcia. I loved you and Mr. Buckner's Pac-Man Fever album. Still love Pac-Man Fever and Do The Donkey Kong, and have sung both karaoke style. Miss you sir.

Funny that in the karaoke version of Pac-Man Fever the 2600 version death sound effect can be heard.

I remember this being in TOM HIRSCHFIELD'S HOW TO MASTER THE VIDEO GAMES, which I still have. It listed the fire button in the OBSERVATIONS section about docking as RETRO, which confused me. The opening theme when you start a game is one of the most iconic arcade sounds of the early '80s to me. A bit creepy IMO.

It was probably too weird an idea for gamers at the time. Something else to chew over: Any games you can remember on the Nintendo VS. cabinet! There were a few different versions of this cabinet.. I believe they all started coming out after the NES made its US debut. There were single cabinets, double screen cabinets, multi-game cabinets, and a weird sit-down one with a screen on each side. The first one I remember playing I believe was Hogan's Alley, even before VS. Super Mario Bros. That was at an arcade in Sea-Tac mall in about 1985 I think. -
What are YOU thankful for (as a GAMER)?

That my Neo Geo 4 slot still works fine. And I have a PS2 in my bedroom that I still get good use out of. -

Next game: MAD PLANETS (1983, Gottlieb) Odd game where you move your ship with a joystick and use a dial to rotate it in place. You shoot planets that grow in size and eventually have moons orbitting it. You must then shoot the moons, and then the planet. Comets also pose a threat. I saw this at a nickel arcade in NE Portland called "Wunderland". Odd game, but playable. At the time, the only Gottlieb titles I knew of were this, Krull, Q*bert and Reactor. -
Excellent work! Can't wait to hear this complete with music. I used to dream of being able to program like this, but I just don't have the patience.
