HSC Round 4.1: The Champ's Double Header
retrorussell replied to VectorGamer's topic in Arcade/MAME High Score Club
Welcome back! Thanks rmaerz! Been around AA, just not putting in high scores. Thought I'd dust off Do! Run Run and see how I stack up.. not even close. -
So you want each single sound on its own file? Or maybe all the sounds from one game on one file? I have all the editing software I need, so whichever you want I can do it.

HSC Round 4.1: The Champ's Double Header

Do! Run Run: 79,370 -
I can do that. I'll get working on it tonight.

The visuals you're describing sound a lot like . It's not an RPG though. No, sorry but thanks. The fighters were much closer during battle, and it was RPG. Two enemies I remember seeing you battle were a wight and a wraith. During battle, you and the enemy raise your weapons and bring them down on each other. A low grunt-like noise sounds, then the appropriate amount of energy is depleted for the combatants. Then you raise and lower your weapons on each other again, till one is vanquished.

Hot tub down, maybe call tomorrow to get it hooked up.

Got one: Either for the Apple or Apple II, I saw kids play it in about 1982 or 1983 at the school library in 6th grade. It's an RPG and sort of like in Dragon Warrior, you are a knight, and you run around until you get in a fight. But when you do fight it's a side view close up of the combatants. An energy meter drops as you or the enemy get hit and I think you can choose from at least a mace and a sword or to use your shield. Whoever dies in the battle flashes repeatedly with a sound effect that keeps dropping in pitch until you go back to regular overhead map mode, or you die. I saw my schoolmates play this and Choplifter a lot.

Infnite Lifes in Cabbage Patch Kids (Prototype)
retrorussell replied to retroillucid's topic in ColecoVision / Adam
Nice work! That game was a pain in terms of timing at times, and figuring out how low you had to be on a platform to where you could jump off safely. -
If you have any specific needs I may be able to make some files for you.

Also: More arcade sounds

More.. arcade sounds

Not a WHOLE lot here but some to get you started.. MAME samples

I never saw Eagle, only the Sega/Gremlin licensed Moon Cresta. Yeah, the "A lot of fun and thrill" line is classic video game Engrish. Got nothing on Zero Wing, though.

Memories of where and when you first played/saw this game
retrorussell replied to retrorussell's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Hmm.. that reminds me.. Where did you first see SPIDERS (Sigma, 1981)? My first and only experience coming across it was at "Progress Pizza", in the suburb of Progress at the Tigard/Beaverton border in Oregon, back in 1982 or so. Our school basketball team had a party there. We played Spiders, Pleiades, and Pirahna and probably some other games I don't recall. Not the greatest pizza but terrific potato wedges. That place has been gone for probably 20+ years. -
Glad to help, and that is excellent work. Oh, and Russ is a great name.

27.. guess I gotta configure the controller better, it feels wrong.

I hadn't even heard of half those consoles/handhelds. I've been happy enough with the Atari 2600, NES, Genesis, PS and PS2 to even think of buying other consoles.

Very, very nice! Does the glare from the lit candle in the upper right corner keep you from going in the door? It seems to obstruct it slightly.

Dreams you had involving arcades or arcade games
retrorussell replied to retrorussell's topic in Arcade and Pinball
I probably had that kind of dream at one point or another. I also had a dream that all the games in an arcade I was at were terrible half-assed ripoffs of real games, and there were some handheld games there too (also really piss-poor). Ugh, wake me up already! -
Some Girls Prefer Shoes. I Prefer These
retrorussell replied to Melissa Melville's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Way to go girl! You'll enjoy your Neo Geo for a long, long time. I suggest Real Bout Fatal Fury Special, Aero Fighters 3, Neo Bomber Man and if you can find it Viewpoint, which I'm still trying to find for my 4-slot for a semi-reasonable price. -
Good man! We'll swing by and check out your future videos.

Arcades From BITD That Are Still Around
retrorussell replied to Dr Galaga's topic in Arcade and Pinball
A number of Malibu Gran Prixs are still around; they may be renamed but the places are basically still the same. One about a mile from me is still around in Beaverton, OR and has an arcade, racetrack, snack bar and batting cages. I haven't been there since the early '90s; arcades are all virtual games and ticket redemption b.s. nowadays, though there are some cool shooting games. -
I don't either but I just record it anyway for my game review videos. Batari showed the link to Audacity for Linux; I suggest you use it. It's good for adding/editing your audio.

I think our family got ours back in 1981. Had a blast playing it with my sisters but we didn't have many games. Asteroids was our favorite. I got so much use out of it and my grades suffered that my playing time had to be rationed: 1 hour in the morning, 1 hour at night. I think we garage saled it out of our possession; now I just open up Stella when I get the itch to play again.

Good work! Some narration might have made it better; having both visual and audio to help understand how the restoration project works is handy. You could either use the audio program that comes with Windows or use a free program called Audacity (which I find VERY useful), record your voice on it with a mike and add to your videos. Which video editing program do you use? I should probably find something better than Windows Movie Maker but nothing else seems to work that great.
