What ColecoVision Homebrews Would You Like to See Next?
retrorussell replied to ColecoFan1981's topic in Homebrew Discussion
I have think about that one too!. Just few idea how to do it in my head. But could be one of my (not near) future project. I LOVE that game. Cool! I used to think it would be great to put it in 3d like Tomb Raider, but no matter what format it's in, gooey, violent deaths should be implemented. -
Very nice! For me though, Congo Bongo was too tough to enjoy. I may have beat level 4 ONCE. Normally I can't get that far. Collision detection is a bit too touchy IMHO.

I'd love to see a version of ANOTHER WORLD/OUT OF THIS WORLD for an older generation console. -
NO JOKE!!! There were hints in an issue of NINTENDO POWER saying let the brick closest to you come out twice, then you can walk past all of them without getting hit. THEY LIED!!! The difficulty of Gravitar and Venture's Goblin room used to piss me off to no end. And the controls keep me from coming back to Defender.

Memories of where and when you first played/saw this game
retrorussell replied to retrorussell's topic in Arcade and Pinball
Yeah, I remember the first maze being pink when I played it in arcades. Then when I played it on MAME the maze was blue. Then I learned how many games have a billion different bootlegs or hacks and I knew I'd remembered it correctly. I really like the added "Strange" mazes and weird bonuses on the version for Genesis. Even the KLAX hand is a bonus! -
The marquee is on KLOV.com. My link

Next game: MS. PAC-MAN Released in 1981, this was such an imaginative departure from Pac-Man in that the mazes were different and the bonuses would MOVE. Someone might have told the programmers, "What are you smoking? MOVING FRUITS??!!" But it was really a stroke of genius as not only did you have to often venture into harm's way to get the bonus (as in Pac-Man) but you had to CHASE the dang thing, as it sometimes seemed to be avoiding you! And the cutscenes this time told a bit of backstory to the protagonist. I first saw this puppy, I believe, in a cafe at the store (Fred Meyer) where my dad was a grocery manager back in the day. The cafe was called "Eve's Buffet" and it was kind of bleh. I'd meet him sometimes on his lunch break there and I passed by a cocktail of Ms. Pac-Man. If that wasn't the first time I saw it I do have recollections of seeing it at my dad's bowling alley on league nights in Milwaukie, OR back in the early '80s. -
Didn't play a whole lot of pinball in my youth... The sound effects did intrigue me though. Xenon was a good one as suggested earlier. I also liked Fathom. Even with an arcade full of noisy video game machines, the creepy sounds of these pinball games could still be heard resonating.

Used to play at the Beaverton roller skating rink by Beaverton Mall (now called Cedar Crossing). We'd roller skate, take off our skates and walk across the carpet, touch the machines and get a good old SHOCK! Good games though.. whooped serious butt on Spectar there. Scramble and Venture.. that was a different story (I sucked). And there was an arcade in Vancouver WA called "Space Gang Pizza". Played some of the weird CVS games like Dazzler and Radar Zone there.

I've read about Loco-Motion but never saw it in an arcade. Seen some YouTube videos of it. Doesn't look like I would have liked it but that's just me. -

Next game: LOOPING, Venture Line 1982 This might actually get more recognition for its Colecovision port. I remember the maze of pipes and the THE END area being a complete bitch. I could never turn tight enough to avoid crashing. I saw this back at Wunderland I believe, in NE Portland. I saw a number of obscure titles there. -

Next game: Mr. Do!'s Castle I first saw this one at my local 7-11 in Portland's Garden Home district. I used to collect cans at home and bring them for cash and get candy, soda and of course, quarters. I think Donkey Kong 3 was the other game there at the time. I was never very good at Mr. Do's Castle and greatly prefer the first one and Do! Run Run. -

OK, next one: PAC-LAND, 1984 Namco/Bally-Midway Once in a while, a franchise will get thrown in an entirely different direction with a really different game concept than its predecessors. Often it doesn't seem to work, as we witnessed the abominations Baby Pac-Man and Professor Pac-Man. This time, Pac-Man gets an adventure game without a linear maze, based on the Hanna-Barbera cartoon series. And it works rather well. You still face the ghosts, but in more life-like settings, such as neighborhoods, forests, deserts, etc. And the ghosts drive cars, fly planes, jump on pogo sticks, etc. Pac-Man gets some upgrades too, picking up protective helmets and super-jump boots and there's all sorts of cool secrets to uncover. And at the end of each neighborhood setting Ms. Pac-Man, Baby Pac-Man and your pets are waiting for you as you arrive home. Really cute game! I'm pretty sure I first saw this in Vancouver, WA at Aladdin's Castle at the Vancouver Mall.. what a huge mall! And what a great arcade.. not SUPER huge but IIRC you got 6 tokens for a buck! -

Am I the only one that never saw a cabinet with the "Popcorn" music? The first time I played it on MAME I got the rom with the "Popcorn" music, and I thought, WTF? -

Don't think I've been to that one (Cream 'n Machine) during my time in the state of Washington.. I only went to arcades in Vancouver and Federal Way/Auburn areas. My mom lived in Vancouver for about 3 years or so and I visited her off and on, going to Aladdin's Castle at the mall and Space Gang Pizza's arcade off of Mill Plain, and I moved to Federal Way for 3 years, where I'd usually play at the Gold Mine in the Sea-Tac mall and at various bowling alleys and skating rinks. -
High school. And my mom sort of re-taught me recently, as I had to resolder my Phoenix board to get the sound working again.

maybe a more mainstream one next...? Maybe.. how about.. PENGO, 1982 SEGA First saw this, I believe, at a very short-lived arcade in the Garden Home area (just north of Tigard and between Beaverton and Portland) called "Pac-Pals". It was right around then, too, that there was a cereal I used to love called "Halfsies" that had a contest you could enter to try to win a free upright cabinet of either Pengo or Super Zaxxon. -

No big. Not everyone is going to know these games.. they're a tad on the obscure side, and they're really old, too! -

I was going to make a YouTube of WARRIOR but I can't get the color background to show up. No sound either, I believe.
