  1. 6,200 and completed the level. Since I don't think I could gain more than one barrel jumped per 100 ticking off the clock, I figured I'd just get up to the hammer as quickly as possible, bust the barrels that I could, and then clear the level.
  2. Scramble. If it weren't for the notorious screen burn, Astro Blaster. Ghosts 'N Goblins. Donkey Kong. Simpsons. Track & Field.
  3. Because you run out of time. your timed? i thought it was just a bonus for going faster... so much for that idea I just confirmed it myself.. yes, you will die when the time runs out. I just got 6,200 and that's probably pretty close to as much as you could get.
  4. First cpu I think was in Christmas of 1982 or 1983.. the fabulous TI-99. I tried making music on it and forgot to insert pauses. The music flowed hyper-fast and I fell over myself laughing.
  5. I spent some time on Deadly Towers as well. It's not close to worst-NES-of-all-time bad (Chubby Cherub, Urban Champion, Bad Street Brawler). I played it long enough to beat it, at least. My sister and I played the hell out of Atari 2600 Pac-Man. We enjoyed it. Same for Donkey Kong for the 2600, I ran that game's score over and over. The Intellivision DK, however, is unbelievably awful.
  6. Interesting how they had gender-switch versions of those games.. did they not want to look sexist?
  7. I played some Sprint2 when I was barely able to reach the wheel. I was probably 6.
  8. This is ridiculous too.. Ebay NES game: eBay Auction -- Item Number: 270531252093
  9. I'll just throw these down, and not in order of greatness: 1. Burgertime 2. Beauty And The Beast 3. Frog Bog 4. Snafu 5. Night Stalker 6. Pac-Man 7. Carnival 8. Lock 'N Chase 9. Dig Dug 10. Tron Deadly Discs 11. Astrosmash 12. Las Vegas Blackjack & Poker 13. Advanced Dungeons & Dragons: Adventure On Cloudy Mountain 14. Beamrider 15. Venture 16. Ladybug 17. Utopia 18. Shark! Shark! 19. Tutankhamn 20. World Series Baseball 21. NFL Football 22. Microsurgeon 23. Pinball 24. Worm Whomper 25. Armor Battle
  10. Gotta go with the Genesis, seeing as how I never owned a SNES. Once I got an emulator of the SNES, I liked the superior color palette and the dearth of RPGs. But overall IMO the Genesis had superior games.
  11. 1981's Space Fury, by Gremlin/SEGA. No doubt.
  12. Must-haves: Pitfall II, Mario Bros., Adventure, River Raid, Asteroids, Space Invaders, Ms. Pac-Man, Galaxian, Keystone Kapers, H.E.R.O., Demon Attack, Pitfall Ones I like that some people may not like: Infiltrate, Cosmic Ark, Dragonfire, Commando Raid, Phoenix, Star Voyager, Spider-Man
  13. It's definitely Stratovox. The first game with voice. That's what I remember best about the otherwise unremarkable game.
  14. Here I go, to the best of my ability... Make a folder called "arcade". Go to planetemu.net and download the latest MAMEUI32. You do this by looking at the tabs on the right side of the screen; under ARCADE choose the MAME link. On the next screen, under "Emulateurs" choose Windows. There will be several links; scroll down until you see MAMEUI32v0.136 (or something similar). Click on Telecharger and save it to your arcade folder. Now go in the folder and double click on the .exe file. Choose run. It will make a new folder inside your "arcade" folder, next to the .exe file. Inside that new folder is all sorts of goodies: folders for background files, artwork files, snapshots, a whole lot of other files, and best of all, roms. The roms are your game files; planetemu.net has these too. Also in the new folder is MAMEUI32.exe. Double click on it and you get a big, splashy menu. Here's where you play your games from. At the top click on Options, then Directories. Here's where you choose what folder you want MAMEUI32 to find your games (roms), your snapshots, artwork files, etc. Once you have your roms from planetemu.net and have told MAMEUI32 where they are you can play them by going through the list and double-clicking on the game. A new screen opens up (full screen by default, you can put it in a window through options/default game options). You'll see a couple screens of varying info about the game. Follow the directions on the screen to get through them and to the boot-up screen. Hit the tab key on your keyboard to open up a new menu. You can set up the controls for your game here. You can also set amount of lives, difficulty, etc. through the dipswitches. Hope this gets you on the right track!
  15. I didn't think Space Fury was all that great. Ninja Gaiden was kind of a lame knock-off of Double Dragon IMO. The NES ports were better. I could never get past Defender's numerous controls to enjoy the game. Same with Frontline.
  16. I rather liked Gorf's controller with the 'quark laser' trigger. For the most part I can adapt to my MAMEd games with a simple Saitek dual analog controller. I stick mostly with the d-pad and 6 buttons. Games with double-joystick controls I use the keyboard for.
  17. I was normally able to get to Tonfun on Yie-Ar Kung Fu and then he would beat the living snot out of me. Only once on MAME without cheating did I get past him. Blues then proceeded to reduce me to a whining little puppy with a severely bruised ass.
  18. Congrats, that's a fantastic deal! Gonna have room for a few more? Asteroids and Pac-Man and maybe Galaga, Donkey Kong or Galaxian would go well with it.
  19. Yeah, I remember seeing a lot of Arkanoid cocktails.. but I did see a pic of a Tetris cocktail so that's the most recent I've seen so far.
  20. The most recent one I'm aware of is Arkanoid (1986). I'm doing research on that right now.
