Say, with all of the arcade games you play, are they emulated on a computer or do you have a MAME cabinet? Just curious...
Played on the MAME emulator off my cpu.

Atari 2600 Dig Dug gameplay. This really is fairly good for an Atari 2600 release!
-
Dig Dug appears in a Mr. Driller game for the GBA, along with his sons Susumu and Ataru.

this is relevant to my interests

it's kind of an odd game, but I really like the sequel as well. The added mechanic of drilling the islands is kinda neat.
I especially like that 10th level-- where if you act fast you can get a TON of points!
Here's a look at the Namco Museum DIG DUG room (Playstation):

I love these-- there's a series of YouTube Flash animation episodes of various Namco characters, including Dig Dug.
Also, here's the cabaret cabinet of DIG DUG, and the sit-down version, both of which I recall seeing BITD.

Hey AAers! This is a thread dedicated to my favorite game of all time:
DIG DUG!
This thread can be about the original arcade game, its sequels, spinoffs, any pictures you want to post, information, memories you have of the game or related games, videos, your high scores, whatever!!!
My best score at the arcade game (via MAME, and I used default settings and NO CHEATS!):

The oft-seen stand up cabinet that I have in my living room:

And a picture of DIG DUG himself; his real name is TAIZO HORI (which means "I want to dig!").

Me in my Halloween costume as Dig Dug about 9 years ago:

ANYTHING Dig Dug related, folks! Post away!!!

Hey folks; another SNK semi-classic:
ALPHA MISSION
Interesting little vertically scrolling shmup with multiple cool forms your ship can change into if you collect 3 red particles of the upgrade. With these new forms you can shoot a flamethrower, homing missiles, a smart bomb, 8-way firepower, etc. There is a finite amount of time you can control the upgrade before you revert to your original ship, and picking up the letter E from destroyed ground targets fills the time meter for the upgrades. In fact, alphabetic letters play a large part in the gameplay; destroying ground targets can leave a letter in red, blue, yellow or mustard colors and that determines how much firepower/speed/missile power/etc. you increase by. There are also BACKWARD letters.. stay away from them since they impact you negatively! There are also warps which can move you forward in the stage or backward. The boss fights are the major negative about this game.. they are WAY too tough and take entirely too long to kill. Even using your special form doesn't remotely guarantee success (unless you have the smart bomb form). A sequel was created for the NEO GEO and there was a bad NES port of Alpha Mission, which is also known as Armored Scrum Object/ASO (?) and ARIAN MISSION (?!).

^ Cool! It's like Alien Syndrome!
Another early SNK game-- and a really weird one-- MUNCH MOBILE!
This puts you in control of a sort of anthropomorphic car-- at least with eyes and extendable arms. The game is double joystick but one is just 2-way; this joystick controls the arms that snake out of the car, and you can only move one arm at a time, but if you pull the arm back you can move it out the other side so it's suddenly the other arm. This arm reaches out to grab food or fuel items off the side of the road and you bring them back into your car. Let go of the joystick when it's in your car to allow it to eat it. Then you can actually deposit the remains into a trash can for a bonus! Fuel is VERY precious (and you lose a life when you're out) so don't miss a gas can! Note that it takes a lot of concentration to focus on the arms and food/fuel-grabbing-- you are already trying to steer the car on the road! Very frustrating and tough, but that doesn't even take into account the unfair collision detection.. even GRAZE the side of the road and you lose a car! Objects in the road and other cars will menace you as well. Hitting your arm on a bush or sign will make your car wince in pain for a bit, leaving it unable to extend them again for that duration. Your goal is to make it to the end of a course and steer your car in the driveway, treating you to a scene of the driver and his wife in domestic bliss. Oddball SNK nonsense, also known as JOYFUL ROAD (!).

Hey NEOphiles,
This is a video of an SNK just a year before the debut of the NEO GEO cabinet:
STREET SMART!
This had great music, sound effects and graphics for its time-- the action was kind of blah in my opinion.. control either a karate fighter or a wrestler/street fighter type (or both at once with a friend) and whup on one opponent after another; though in 2nd player mode you face 2 enemies at once. If one player loses all their energy the other player is stuck fighting both enemies! You have a kick and a punch and a jump kick if you like (but it's pretty worthless). That's it-- no particularly special moves (which would have made the game a good deal better), other than maybe a throw when you're close or a low kick when you press down and kick. The stages are set in arenas, and when you are able to down the opponent an ambulance with insane suction or teleportation abilities brings the fallen gladiator inside the wagon in a split second! You then get a nice bonus and face the next opponent. If you finish a match with both players, you will then have to fight each other! The loser loses a life (but appears in the next match, provided he has another remaining), and the winner gets some energy back. I prefer the karate guy due to his longer foot reach. You can kick with a roundhouse from fairly far away, move out of the enemy's attack range (and to another plane) and repeat, with some degree of success.

THE DIG DUG THREAD!

If you reach the 256th screen on Dig Dug, you get a "kill screen"-- a glitched level that kills off the player or prevents them from getting anywhere on the screen, found in Donkey Kong (not given enough time to complete a level), Pac-Man (integer overflow preventing you from completing the screen), etc. In Dig Dug's 256th screen you are placed on top of a Pooka to start off, and this automatically kills you! This keeps happening until you run out of lives.
Here's a look at round 1:
What I usually do on this screen is use the rock nearest the top; I can often squish 3 enemies with this (but hard to squish all enemies with, without getting trapped). Something to remember is that the enemies follow your movements. If you drop a rock, the enemies backtrack when they're following you (unless they are RIGHT on your tail, then they will likely kill you when you try to drop the rock). To keep the enemies from escaping from the tunnel either as eyes or solid form it's a good idea to move right above where the rock was as it drops. This is easier to do than explain but is critical to lining up enemies to get squished.
