What games did you enter a contest for and win? Enter X amount of UPCs to win? Get from your parents for cleaning your room/doing chores/doing schoolwork? Or maybe just was given by someone? Arcade machine, home console, handheld, whatever. Or maybe you STOLE? (Boo! Hiss!) I remember when the Sega Genesis was a few years old or so, there was some sort of contest in the mail where I think you sent in UPCs from certain games and you could get your one selection of a number of games listed for FREE. Come to think of it I believe you got 2 free games.. because one was the horrid DARK CASTLE (I remember playing it on the Amiga and kind of liking it). The other was a game that I think they said I didn't qualify for since I didn't send enough UPCs from qualifying games. But they relented and sent it anyway! It was PHANTASY STAR III. Great game! Well before that I earned Atari 2600 games through completing all my schoolwork and doing well at certain subjects. I won Pac-Man and I think maybe Defender for that, among others. I was in 6th grade at the time. What did you folks earn/win/get by other means for free?

Any kind of console or handheld system. This could be the initial pack-in game for the system or a later release with a different pack-in game. I remember getting TETRIS with my Game Boy. I think that was its first pack-in game. I think Atari 2600s first came released with COMBAT. I think the Genesis first came with Altered Beast. That's it for me now. You guys take over!

First one I PLAYED was probably one of those black and white arcade racing games of the early-mid 70s. The first one my family owned was probably a PONG multi-game variant. We weren't rich enough to own a console system until the 80s.

Hadn't heard of that-- never got far in the game. But I had heard that you can "fry" the game (slightly wiggle the on/off switch) and end up with tons of extra lives.

MARS MATRIX TH STRIKES BACK TOP HUNTER- RODDY AND CATHY all arcade

Hey folks, My latest YouTube video is of the NEO GEO classic TOP HUNTER: RODDY & CATHY. Oddball to be sure, with cyborgs taking on guys that look like WWI fighter pilots and picking them up or throwing them, and collecting power ups that allow them to deliver more damage or shoot enemies, and you can even pull off some Street Fighter-like attacks! Bonus stages, colorful worlds, and tons of things to uncover (in the form of chains you pull). A forerunner of the Metal Slug series, and this also allows you to board mechs!
