  1. Hey folks. Sorry this may not 100% fit but this was LICENSED to SNK, and made by Alpha Denshi. It's a crappy beat-em-up (though an early one) called GANG WARS. This game is technically ghastly at times and not terribly impressive graphically. Choose form one or two characters and go to work to clean up the streets of criminals and rescue a young girl in distress. You can pick up and use weapons like clubs, bottles, concrete blocks, and later posts and flamethrowers and machine guns-- or can you?? Sometimes a weapon gets knocked into a place where you can't seem to pick it up, and you should be able to reach it! Pass. By the way, this is my 8th "Flashback Episode", where you look back at the year the game was made (1989). Hope you find some nostalgic enjoyment!

  4. I find it odd that Google Chrome moves the images/videos/news/maps tabs around all the time, so that one or more is unseen and you have to click 'more' to find it. Weird..

Yeah, I figure it has to do with what people usually want when searching for particular subjects. For example, most people want to check the "Photos" tab when searching for Christina Hendricks, but don't usually want a photo when searching for "3051" which is the current number in the Number Picture Thread...

If you think that's fascinating you should try Presto's hot dog electrocutor.

  6. Hey all, My newest NEO review is of POP 'N BOUNCE, also known as GAPPORIN. It's a cutesy basic ARKANOID clone with some similar power ups released from breaking blocks. The "blocks" are actually cutesy animals-- pigs, kittens, squids, octopii, etc. One cool addition is the ability to make the game a hell of a lot easier by lighting up ATTACK at the top. My Flashback series continues with this review-- I look back at events and such of the year the game came out, so this is 1997. Titanic, Weapons of Mass Destruction, South Park, Bill Clinton, Princess Diana and more are looked back upon. Enjoy this time capsule!

  8. Death Race was only playable through an emulator that can deal with Discrete Integrated Circuit logic-- here's the link: http://fabslab.itch.io/death-race I don't know much about the Jaws game-- it sounds like an electromechanical game where you physically use a mounted rifle to shoot at lights (or in this case sharks). Just like a billion other arcade games at the time before the video revolution took over. And thus, not really worth emulating IMHO.
  9. Wow, that sucks.. the Discrete Circuitry Emulator (DICE) that did older b&w arcade games from the 70s that MAME couldn't run is crashing all over the place and the graphics are messed up. What the hell happened?

Sounds like an update broke it? Happens all the time with this stuff, which is why I gave up on emulation years ago.

  11. Hey folks. This was my first in a series of 20 straight "flashback" episodes I want to do. It was for the game GALAXY FIGHT, and for each of the videos in this series I look back at the year of a game for each video and look at news events, films, tv debuts, sports, music and celebrity passings of the year. This year is 1995, which was when Galaxy Fight occurred. Galaxy Fight is a rather blah vs. fighting game in my opinion. Select from 7 different futuristic fighters with a zoom in/zoom out feature similar to Art Of Fighting. No special weapon meter in this one, which was appearing in all the vs. fighting games around this time. Just kind of dull to me. If you like my flashback episodes, good news! I'm making many, many more!

  13. One of my favorite memories of arcades involved MALIBU GRAN PRIX, the location of which is close to my house (and it was taken down a few years ago). The family would go about once a month. We'd do some sort of chore (like collect apples, wash dishes, dust, vacuum, etc.) for the month and get rewarded with a few bucks to spend at MALIBU (which didn't give you a deal on tokens, like 5 or even 6 for a buck at some places) but they did have the best games. Even before the 80s rolled around my sister and I still enjoyed pinball, Asteroids, Depthcharge, 4 Player Bowling and Gypsy Juggler, and my stepmom would play Stunt Cycle and my dad would play shuffleboard and foosball. As the 80s came around all the different Pac-Man machines would be lined up together (often with multiples of the same machine) and I got into Crazy Climber and Dig Dug, and also enjoyed the Pac-Man ripoffs Eyes and Thief. All the pizza parlors around me were heavy on the arcade machines. Rico's Red Lion Pizza & Ice Cream Parlor (now Round Table), Sunshine Pizza Exchange, Shakey's, Pizza Hut, and Godfather's all had machines I remember playing (especially the great Phoenix at Godfather's). A bit later there were nickel arcades springing up around my neighborhood, the best of which were called ELECTRIC CASTLE'S WUNDERLAND. About 5 bucks got you in the place and all the games were a nickel apiece. All the great games were there. I'd go probably once every few weeks. I love that I have a fantastic memory for where I first saw a specific arcade machine.
  14. Damnit.. almost to my 1,000 YouTube video and the microphone cuts out. Gotta spend Easter shopping for a new one.

  15. Hey folks, My newest video review of a NEO GEO game is STAKES WINNER. Kind of cute horse racing game with sort of super-deformed horses (they look like ponies). You have a "reins" button and "whip" button-- the first to get your horse to speed up ever-so-slightly and the second to make it speed up more noticeably; though both drain its energy (more so with the latter button). If you horse is out of energy is has likely lost the race, as it will slow to a crawl. Judicious use of the whip (it's often good to save it for the final stretch) is key to winning races, but so is making sure you collect all helpful icons that appear (like wings for super speed and carrots for replenishing your power meter). Note that you can also "nudge" horses out of the way by tapping the joystick forward twice; this is very helpful in emerging from a tight crowd. Place in the top 3 to continue without having to use a credit. Every 3 races you get to participate in a bonus course-- improve your horse's stats by crossing the finish line in time and avoiding the moles that pop out of the ground and slow down your horse. Finish the 5th, 9th or 12th (final) courses in first place to unlock a couple bonus courses (Breeders Cup Classic and Prix De Le Arc De Triomphe). Neigh!
