We had another thread about this, this hint seems to be a hoax (there's a lot of false or "half-true" trivia here on AtariAge, is there no one servicing that database? I noticed you can't submit anything anymore, but I think at some point you still could?)Someone on that other thread noted that looking at the Pac-Man ROM there's no way the game could "remember" the number of ghosts you killed in the next round.
However, the other "cheat", the tunnel warp, seems to work, although the instructions given there don't make much sense. However, I did this inadvertently 2 times already, but can't reproduce it.
I retract my previous statement(see above). I do now recall that statement Herbarius mentions that technically there's no way the ROM could 'remember' ghost deaths from round to round. Apologies.

Perhaps he's looking for more 'green' investors that want to loose moneyNolan, you had one good idea, best not try and repeat it eh...
Funny, I didn't see that he was looking for any investors anywhere in any of his blogs. There was a lot of sound advice for aspiring entrepreneurs.
Also, he had several good ideas, not just one. He created the company Atari, and with it built, marketed and sold successful arcade games. Then he essentially created the home video game market as we know it with the Atari 2600, having to sell his own company to make it happen. Chuck E. Cheese was also his baby, but I don't think they have those on your side of the pond
Those places are still around--I played some Donkey Kong, Skeeball and Star Wars Trilogy in one just a few weeks ago.Good big ideas there, all of them made up of many smaller good ideas. Saying that he had only one is understating the hell out of it.

I sought out that Fade to Black game back in the day, and was a bit let down, but is worth checking out for any classic gamer that loved Flashback. Nice deal on the PSP! I've been thinking of getting one just for emulation as I've seen quite a few cheap ones on Craig's List lately. Just one more thing: Super Pitfall is an absolutely horrible game. It was such a giant disappointment back in the day.
Not a great weekend for finds, but far from the worst.Yard sale had a rack of 2600 games, mostly commons, some with manuals, almost all loose. I passed on a lot of good stuff that I already had like a CIB Sears Star Raiders, and CIB Keyboard Controllers. He also had a 7800, but I have 2 already.
I picked up:
Sky Diver (somehow I hadn't gotten this yet!)
Cosmic Creeps (handle version)
Porky's
Name this Game (with manual)
Wabbit (with manual)
and NES Super Pitall (with Manual)
All for $10
At other sales:
PS1 Fade to Black - $2 (I'd been looking forever for this sequal to Flashback)
Game Gear Super Collumns, Paperboy 2, and Gameboy Pokemon Pinball - all three for $.50
and my best find yesterday:
A used PSP fat. It was actualy in the box for a PSP slim Rachet and Clank Entertainment pack. It came with the R&C game, National Treasure 2 umd, power adapter, a 1 gb memory stick and the paperwork for the slim. Unit seems to be in pretty good shape, just a couple of scratches on the screen but not bad. and the thumb cap on the analog stick is missing. Had a price tag of $50 for the set, but I haggled them down to $40, so not a bad deal.
Got it home, charged it up, and it seems to be working fine. Never played one before, seems pretty nice. I'm planning on hacking it of course, so soon it will be an emulation machine. Also picked up some misc CDs, and some old Star Wars Bantha Tracks newsletters from the Star Wars fan club. Most are from 1982-1984 so it's cool to read about "Revenge of the Jedi" before the movie came out. Oh, they were only $.10 each so why not!
Today at a flea I picked up a complete NES with 14 games, most of them CIB for only $30, tested and seems to be in working order. I can't pass systems with games up for that cheap. I can usually clean them up, take out the games I want, throw in some dupes I have and turn it around for $65-75 easy.

I have heard that it does indeed work, but is VERY difficult to do correctly.

That jacket is pretty awesomely cool, but I'd feel like a big ol' ball o' fakeness wearing it.

I don't think he's got any of the original screws.
Joey, I think off the top of my head that it's about a #6 screw, either 1 inch or maybe one and a quarter. Just be patient, and I'm sure someone who knows for sure will chime in here eventually.
-
I'm guessing you mean the main screws that go in the bottom that hold the top and bottom of the unit together? I don't recall noticing anything special about them, so I think you could get them from any hardware store. Somebody who knows more about screws may chime in here and tell you what exact size they are.

So these are paddles so messed up that taking apart the pot and cleaning the inside didn't help? Just wondering. That is a good fix you've got there, taking them back to completely new working condition.

Some kid playing Atari Pac-Man. Wow, that's riveting. Then he starts talking on an imaginary phone. Um, okay.
I quit watching at that point. Sorry kid, but there's just not one single interesting or entertaining thing about this video.

Dang! Looks to be multiples of a number of rare carts there. That's pretty mind blowing.

Buying dirt cheap and reselling for more, would it make me feel guilty..NO.Thats done all the time.I see the dude that is a vendor at one of the local flea markets buy all Atari,CV,INTV,etc, consoles and games,at the local thrift shop and resells them at the flea market for 3x as much.I beat him a few times on stuff.I dont like it,but what ya gonna do?If i were to sell, which ive never done here at AA or any where else,id sell for fair or whatever seems fair to the buyer.I'd only sell here at AA to help out a fellow collector.I'd more than likely just give stuff for free, not even charge shipping for anyone here at AA. ;)If i gave anything its more to help out someone than for profit.I'm not a reseller either but that's the way the world goes 'round. Ever buy anything in a store in your life? Guess what? They bought low and sold high to you. Groceries, gas, utilities, rent--it all works that way. It's how people make money.

Galaxian for the 5200 (on the other hand, the ColecoVision version was near arcade-perfect)Time Pilot for ColecoVision (a real disappointment, missing a level, sluggish gameplay)
BurgerTime for PlayStation (it was on the Arcade's Greatest Hits Midway Collection 2 and had terrible controls)
Frogger for the SNES and Genesis (missing music)
Frogger for the Genesis was arguably pixel perfect. Lack of music hardly makes it one of the 'worst ports ever.'

$99 per year sounds pretty high to me. I love this site and would love to help support it, but doubt I'd ever really have that much to kick in. I would just end up a lowly non-member
Reputation points would start the flame war to end all flame wars, combined with a negative feedback war.
Email totally unnecessary.

Awace,
Nice attempts to use capital letters to start sentences! It is helping your posts become more understandable, but why not use them all the time instead of just sometimes?
Try inserting a period between your thoughts/ideas and you'll be nearly golden.
I am sure that since you go to all the trouble to write your posts, you would like people to be able to understand them. Anymore, I generally skip reading your posts as they make no sense, but gave this latest one a shot after seeing some capital letters used.
For example:
"Was at wall mart Buying Food"
Curious use of capital letters there. I can't imagine why that was done in that way. I guess you felt that buying food was really important, kind of like the name of the world's largest business, which for some reason you did not capitalize(and misspelled).
"I also rewired a single paddle plug play found Pal" --you rewired a "single paddle plug play found"? I'm not sure what that is. Thanks for calling me "Pal," but we've never even met. Your idea is lost in confusion. Using a period or a comma to separate your ideas would have saved you on this one.

Dude, SUCH a tease without details, especially since you obviously had a camera out and at the ready!
Don't keep us hangin' man!
Actually, part of me doesn't want to know as I'm sure to be jealous as hell.

You should really make a new thread for your Earthworld. I'm sure it will be seen by more folks and sold. Just a little friendly advice. Good luck.
And by the way, I'd probably try to make a deal on the Galaga marquee if it was local and shipping price and breakage risk was out of the equation. Have you put it on your local Craig's List?

What do you think makes the 2600 stick in so many minds today when the term "classic gaming" is heard? There were tons of systems to choose from back then. One could have had an Astrocade or an Intellivision. In fact, I'm sure there are people out there who were raised on the "small" systems. I knew people who were raised on the Arcadia 2001, and had more games for that than most of my friends did for the 2600.But when you mention classic gaming to a crowd of people who were exposed to the 2600, it certainly comes to mind. Or, if you want to buy a video game for the average Star Wars or Star Trek collector, the 2600 titles would come to mind. Why is that? Why not buy them the Game Gear titles instead?
For me, I grew up on the 2600. I chose it over newer systems including the 5200, the NES, and even the Genesis. If I went over to my friends' houses, we played SNES or Genesis. When they came to mine, we played the 2600. All three systems got plenty of enjoyment. I'm the kind of person who, if I did collect Star Wars stuff but didn't collect video games, would probably be happy to get something like Dark Forces, but happier to get a copy of Jedi Arena.
Thoughts?
Why not Game Gear titles? 'Cause almost nobody owned one. Especially compared to the numbers of Atari owners. That ratio must be five thousand to one.
I also didn't know anyone who had an Arcadia. I can only remember one or two kids that had Colecovisions or Intellivisions, but many many many friends who had Atari. I can recall disagreements we had about which games were good , oftentimes my opinion being jaded as I thought certain translations fared poorly while kids that had never seen or played the original arcade titles thought games I disliked were great.
The name Atari was synonymous with video games back then, like Kleenex or Band-Aid still is today. Nothing else was even close.
I think regardless of how sales figures can now be interpreted in hindsight, and I doubt that any figures from back then are really that accurate, an EXTREMELY large of portion of people who owned video games back then had Atari. The field was not nearly so spread out as it is now between Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo. Kinda likethe way television network viewership has changed.

Have to ever bought something from a thrift store cheap and sold for a good amount of money here?If so, did you tell anyone or did you feel bad about it?
I personally haven't but I know it happens around here all the time. A number of AtariAge members are professional sellers/store owners/website owners and their business and livelihood is built on buy low, sell high. There's nothing wrong with that. Everybody's gotta eat.

SNES complete, $10That's pretty sweet. As much as I've been trying not to diversify my collection, I'd find it hard not to buy that.

As some peeps have been told off or reprimanded for thread archeology (bumping old threads), perhaps there shouild be a cut off point for old threads or for those threads to be deemed closed (i.e you cannot respond to them)what do you peeps think
Quit calling people peeps, dude.

Came across these being used at a party a few weeks ago. The cubes come out looking really great!

Defective Pitfall 2 cartridge
in Atari 2600

I also vote Pitfall II "most troublesome Activision cart." I have a few and all are problematic, with one I could never make work.
