The Official "Thrift finds" Thread
brojamfootball replied to Happy_Dude's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm SOOOO jealous of your H.E.R.O. score! Haven't come across a new Atari cart in a while, myself. -
Some real gems in that lot I'd love to have. Obviously the ones in your pic, but He-Man and a few others as well.

Score on the Road Runner! -
I think Combat, then Video Olympics and Breakout.

Me, I'll just buy a REALLY good used car instead. Hell, I wouldn't even pay that much for a used car. I honestly can't think of anything that's worth five grand to me, except the calm security that five grand in the bank would buy.

I made a ton of Jag YouTube vids this week. (Watch them! ;-))

Very enlightening! Thank you for taking the time to do that. -
Looking great, man! Maybe at some point I will FINALLY be the proud owner of a good home version of DK with all four screens!

The old "works fine just needs a charger," or "haven't tested it but worked fine when last used" trick. Sometimes it's for real, sometimes not. Here in Southern California I see a lot of the same kind of thing with used cars: "Blown head gasket, but ran great until that." Guess what? It doesn't anymore. People here with high mileage cars for sale like to use the old "all highway miles" schtick as well. Guess what? Almost all miles here are on the freeway, since there's hardly any street driving. You get on the freeway to go anywhere, even the grocery depending on where you live. ALL CARS are mostly highway miles out here. Duh. I've gotten great deals when I didn't even know it, and I've gotten screwed when I thought I was doing great. Some people are really nice, honest, and fair. Others are mean as hell and will cheat you if you give them half the chance. You just have to do your best. Piecing things together, buying different parts from different places to put together one entire package that works can be very cost effective. It does take time though, and you can end up with a closet full of half packages. I have that problem sometimes. Then I get a whole package together and have a crapload of leftover pieces, and try to put another one together. It goes on and on, and can drive you nuts. I guess what I'm trying to say is, I've had some really dumb moments in collecting, too. Just revel in the great deals you've gotten and don't sweat the poorer ones--and don't let the same snake bite you twice, whatever it might be.

Nice score on the Blip game--does it work? -
I'd say that's a pretty good deal. I've been looking for a 7800 for eons and haven't had any luck.

I was just thinking that we have access to Atari related chat on Mondays over at CTCW and less than 20 people turn up even when its free then there's no point in Albert buying it for AA because it might not get utilised very much. I'm not against paying something for this site that I get so much out of, but hope it will be something minimal. Regarding chat at CTCW, I've wanted to get in on the Monday chats but haven't felt like going through all the signup stuff. It would be nice to have the Atari chats right here at AtariAge.

What have you actually PLAYED? Weekly Top Ten for 2009

You sure that's not a typo? That's over 23 hours. -
I thought it was made that way on purpose, and yes, it's a great game.

New Michael Jackson Game coming out this year
brojamfootball replied to Rev's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Jeez, all the whiners need to relax. Michael Jackson jokes have been going around for years. The guy practically begged to be made fun of. Hell, he wanted to be weird, apparently providing tips for his own stories to the National Enquirer for a while. Add the child molestation stuff and the gloves are officially off, dead or not. Shamoff! *grabs his crotch* -

Mmmmm *salivates over the Vectrex* -
And opening it carefully would damage that box how exactly? Only saddo collectors keep things sealed and unused....when for all you know the machine inside never worked the day it left the factory LOL Also sadly, doesn't matter if what's inside works or not if it's sealed. Could be some bizarro rarity console with Ron Jeremy's picture on it...or maybe the image of Jesus immaculately appearing in the Atari logo.

You can get single rev 9 flexes on Ebay delivery included for about 8 or 9 bucks. Never bought one myself, though.
-
I bet it's the sweetest condition 2600 you ever saw inside! That would surely look nicer than mine. I've got a really clean vader, but all my woodgrain machines are a bit tired looking. It'd be a helluva display piece. Don't listen to me, I know not what I say...

HSC Season 6 Week 43: Snoopy and the Red Baron
brojamfootball replied to Ze_ro's topic in 2600 High Score Club
I've always liked this game, but agree with everyone here about the non-ramping difficulty. Different game versions on the cart don't really seem harder either, just faster. I like popping this cart in the ol' Atari from time to time, but never die. I just eventually shut it off and pop in a different cart. This would be a great game for someone to hack for difficulty. The game itself can obviously run faster, just maybe somehow let the Red Baron get faster more than Snoopy after a couple of levels. Maybe the entire code is too dependently synched to itself for that, perhaps the reason the game is the way it is in the first place. I dunno. Anyway, accolades to those with copious amounts of patience and high tolerance for repetitive stress injuries attempting to win this one. -
Agreed!

I agree. I don't like the text at all.For $1.50 I would probably buy one, but only wear it around the house. Agreed. I am glad I managed to score the last Activision logo tee they had at my local Target in size large. This other one is a little too cheesy for me to wear.

Race Drivin' Panorama. I think I saw it someplace once, too. That's gotta be the one I was thinking of. Flyer said it had a stunt track; that must be why my memory has it confused with Hard Drivin'.
