Pretty cool. Thank you for the link.

I would never bid on an auction with a description written that poorly. Plus, it's in Mexico? No surprise to me that it stayed so low. Good luck getting your cart, auction winner.

I reserve judgment. Flashy graphics and big fight scenes don't equal great game play. I demo'd Force Unleashed and that was what it was.Don't get me wrong, I would love to see a really fun Star Wars game come out. I have been waiting since X-Wing vs. Tie Fighter. I'll demo this one and see what happens (when I can). I did really like Dark Forces, though.
Dark Forces was great!

Just finished the Gameboy version of Donkey Kong, also known as Donkey Kong '94. It's an excellent game, and one of my all-time favorites. Had it years ago and never finished it; just completed it for the first time.
The ending sucked.
The last screen has you(Mario) pummel the hell out of DK with barrels, so when it gets to the ending DK is knocked silly.
Does Mario throw him in a cage or a deep, dark well or something? No, he just lifts him up into the air and holds him there.
It then goes to a final family-type photograph with DK, Jr, Mario and whatsername all together, arms locked and smiling.
After Mario and DK have been beating the crap out of each other for 100 screens, now they're old friends. Lame.
It was also pretty much a big nothing of an ending after all it took to get there, but I guess the original grayscale-only Gameboy wasn't known for big cinematic cutscenes or anything like that. The thing is, there are some really cool cutscenes between levels earlier in the game. Just seemed like they could've done a nice one for the end.
Again, this is an excellent game, lame ending or no. I highly recommend it.

Shame you're not here in the states. I'd make an offer on part of the stuff but shipping would kill it.

My vote is Pitfall, I loved the second, but it took what was great about the first and made it better (rare for sequels) I like the Idea of Pitfall, but haveing lives and a timer? WTF, either/or, not both would have been quiet enough, and it's like the only atari game that didn't have options or anything. (of course, to be fair, neither did the second)I think the combination of lives and a timer is nothing short of genius. Without the timer, you would never be forced to go underground to complete the game. David Crane turned this from a basic avoid-the-obstaces game to one that is much deeper by adding the underground option, the fact it spans 3 screens for 1, and the inclusion of the timer.
I may be missing something, but I don't really see how haveing a timer forces you to go underground (I personally liked underground, less obsticles, and I'm sure lots of people thought the same way)
As I said, overrated

You have to go underground to complete the whole thing before the time runs out don't you?
I've never been able to complete it staying topside.
Great game.
That's my point though, you have to go undergound to finish the game (it's hard to explain, like think of the world like a telephone keypad, the top world is vertical traces, while the underground is horizontal traces...or something, maybe I"m all wet there) and I don'tsee how haveing a time limit forces you to go undergound since you would still have to even if there was no time limit....other wise, you just repeat the same four or so screens (or something like that)
One thing I think would have made Pitfall cooler, would be above ground walls. There are some underground, but not above? why? Maybe they thought the critters holes and logs were enough? I guess it is kinda mazey even without above ground walls, but eh...still.
Oh, one thing that sucked on Pitfall 2, no vine. Yeah, I think that was the trademark for Pitfall, or maybe it's just me that thinks of that first above all else when someone brings it up.
Underground passages are shortcuts. The timer requires you to use them since otherwise you can't cover enough ground in 20 minutes to get all the treasures. That's it.
In doing so, it forces you to explore the game more deeply, figuring out exactly which underground passages are dead ends, which make you miss treasures, and which are beneficial time savers. That's a side of the game that only becomes clear if you understand the correlation between the timer and underground passages.
Additionally, the timer puts pressure on you. It's far easier to make a perfect jump if you take sixty seconds to line up just right before you press the button. You'll never fall in a pit if you waste a minute and a half watching it open and close four times before you run across. If you take this kind of care, you don't have enough time to finish, so the timer forces you to go, go, go, which in effect raises the difficulty level.
It works. Games like Super Mario and Sonic didn't put in timers by accident. Otherwise, there's no stimulus to keep moving.

The underground passages are shortcuts, where traveling one underground screen covers the distance of several above ground screens. The timer creates a necessity to use them. You cannot cover enough ground in your 20 min time limit to get all the treasures with using underground shortcuts. Get it?

Does anyone believe that this is an original? Only 125 Pepsi Invaders were made and this guy is claiming that he found one in a Mexican flea market with glue residue on it? Good luck to the buyer!http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...alenotsupported
Looks home made to me.

I just got my 360 back from microsoft (They fixed the red ring). The thing worked for about a week. Then i got the 3 red rings. I let the xbox sit for 2 days and it started to work again. Now within 10 minutes of turning on the xbox the thing randomly freezes. Is this fixable? Or do i need to send it back to microsoft.I think that, unfortunately, Microsoft is your only real outlet. I do, however, see people on my local Craig's List who claim to be able to fix them for $40-50 flat rate, but don't know how trusting I'd be. How long did it take Microsoft before?
Yeah im probably just going to call the hotline and get it fixed. I hope they can speak english this time. Took about 3 week before
Not bad. Way quicker than I would have guessed.

Nice score! You gotta love those nifty Gemini controllers.

Doesn't look ugly at all to me. Don't see why anyone would say that.
Looks like the analog nub is in a bad place, and they missed a chance to put in a second one, something I thought it needed.

On the original Playstation, you could insert a pencil eraser into the hole that held the disc lid sensor. That would allow you to get the system to boot partway, and then swap discs to a burned copy or a foreign game to get that to boot, the machine thinking the disc lid was closed the whole time. It was kinda tricky but worked.Really? What kind of eraser? The pointed ones that you attach to pencils, or just a standard pencil eraser?
Also, do you need to load another game first?
The kind that comes on a standard yellow pencil, or anything for that matter that will fit. Break it off and shove it in the disc lid sensor hole. Boot a game, it'll show splash screen, then disc stops spinning for just a few seconds--that is your chance to quickly swap discs. A little dangerous but it works. Only for the original full sized gray Playstation--PSX.

We didn't get 2600 Pac-Man at my house when it came out, but friends down the street did. I remember being jealous, but then seeing the game wasn't so jealous anymore. After Space Invaders, this was just piss poor. Atari had many ports of arcade titles, both good and bad, but everyone anticipated another Space Invaders with Pac-Man and didn't get one.
Playing the game in my adult years has shown it's a very playable game, although definitely not one of the best arcade/2600 conversions. Many parallels to 2600 Donkey Kong with this game. Both games were less than excellent arcade ports, but the arcade games were so popular these titles still sold and were in many homes.
Pac-Man on the 2600 is fun and playable, but I'll always have that sting in the back of my mind, recalling how poor it seemed back when it came out.

There are still good deals to be had on shopgoodwill.com. I got a Heavy sixer about 6 months back for $26
I guess $26 ain't too bad if you got acoutrements with it, but how much for shipping? I looked through their ads and found shipping rates to be outrageous. Three 2600 carts rated at three pounds for $12 shipping, stuff like that. Insane.

Right or wrong, nudging a pinball machine is a "dangerous" trick, and obviously "pretty cool" for folks to be so amped up about it.
Sooo, can we move on now please and get back to this interesting thread?

I guess a lot of it depends on your perspective. When I was a kid, Adventure was awesome as it was pretty much the only game with any depth to it. As an adult, I have no desire to memorize my way through invisible mazes, etc and find it overrated.
Funny though, I enjoyed recently learning my way through Montezuma's Revenge. Never played that one as a kid so it was new to me.

People on eBay are insane. Did you guys see this one... Crazy SellerI have a couple of these keychains, I was about to list on eBay. I seen your post & thought I would offer them to you first.
----------
1 - Joystick Keychain with plug-in and an opened package
1 - Driving style Keychain with Plug-in no box (I have the package somewhere, just can't seem to find it).
----------
They were only played two times. The Joystick one has sticky controls. Not sure if it was supposed to be this way. It was like that when I bought it. Maybe that's why most people did not like them.
Make me an offer.

PM sent.

I remember really liking the end to Pitfall:The Mayan Adventure. You finally rescue Dad and he's actually the little stick figure from the 2600 game. That was a great ending.
This was, IMO, one of the best games of the 16 bit era, and one of the best game sequels ever.

I used to be very guilty of collecting and not playing with my previous collection, which I got rid of. I now only have 2600 stuff and some plug and plays. I also have a 360, but no 'collection' for it, just a few games.
I try to only buy 2600 games that I will play, but have definitely ended up with some junk. I've got about 85 unique carts, and probably a little over half get play or will again at some point. There are just so many crappy titles out there, it's hard not to end up with some. I have to admit to buying a few collector-type titles just to have them. Some are good games, some are not. For instance, I knew that when I bought Donkey Kong it would not get much play, but I like having it for the collection to illustrate how awful some translations were. Plus, I think it cost fifty cents. Pac-man was the same way. Some games that I don't play I would like to get rid of, others I wouldn't let go.
Star Trek? Play on!
ET? Not so much, though I really tried. I like having a copy of the game "responsible for the crash."
Porky's? The game is not so great, but it's cool for the collection.
Pac-Man? For sure I'll play Ms or Jr before this, but I like having a copy of this notoriously crappy translation. Also cheap.
So I don't necessarily think it's always wrong to have games you don't play.

On a 2600 with Space Invaders inserted, hold down reset while powering on. This gives you double shot! Same thing on 2600 Galaxian.
When I was about thirteen years old, we used to go to a local bowling alley arcade. They had an original Donkey Kong machine that if you kicked the front of the coin door it would give a free game. The vibration wiggled the little latch inside as if a quarter had just been inserted. It was eventually fixed.
On the original Playstation, you could insert a pencil eraser into the hole that held the disc lid sensor. That would allow you to get the system to boot partway, and then swap discs to a burned copy or a foreign game to get that to boot, the machine thinking the disc lid was closed the whole time.
