Yep, I felt the same way the OP did when I discovered that site just a few months ago. When I saw the title of this thread, I was sure that was gonna be the subject. These days, people rarely donate game stuff. They want cash. I see it for sale on Craig's List like crazy though, usually people asking $60-100 for a 2600 or an NES, although I've managed to score a deal or two here and there. I always laugh at the $100 PS1 listings where people use quotes from the original system specs: "high resolution 3D graphics," etc.
In Goodwills, all I find is the occasional(and I do mean OCCASSIONAL) overpriced NES or 2600 cart, a few worthlessly scratched PS1 or Dreamcast games mixed in with the CDs for usually $5, and of course the obligatory Genesis sports titles. I always kind of get a kick out of seeing the same mid-nineties Genesis sports games sitting behind the glass in a thrift month after month. I guess few people want to buy a fifteen-year-old Madden game for $9

Does it have the power supply? Having the Atari power supply is a big factor in my book.

Would anybody be interested in a unopened phoenix display. I guess it folds out into something and you hang it from the ceiling.Pics, please.

I've made some of the changes you requested, including putting the reviews in alphabetical order and adding snapshots. I was always hesitant to shuffle the order of the reviews, since some of them are a lot older than others and therefore, not as polished. I suppose the obvious answer is to revise the older reviews, which I've also done.VERY nice work friend, and so quickly done, too! I will definitely be keeping an eye on it as I really like your reviews. I'm always looking for that stuff. Keep us all posted on updates, please!

http://www.lakupo.com/grblitz/atari%202600.htmI thought these might be of interest to you. Feel free to share your thoughts!
That's a nice little page you've got there, but the reviews seem to be in no particular order, and only one or two have screenshots. Cartridge scans might be nice too--visual aids help any presentation

One full hour of Radar Lock on the Atari Flashback 2. Somehow missed that game before--awesome!
20 min on Adventure.

I'm having the same problem, and was just about to make a thread when I searched and saw your post! I can't get the fuel boom to come down at all. Maybe this response will bump this thread enough that someone who knows will see...
Edit:
Got the fuel boom to come down a few times and actually got to Mission 3! As far as I can tell, I THINK you just have to hover VERY close/on top of the fuel plane to make it come down. Too tired to play any more for now...

Ironically, many of the best Sonic games coming out these days seem to be unofficial ones from his fans. Two very prominent ones are:Like some others have mentioned here, I have pretty much given up on Sonic games. Last one I played was "Sonic the Hedgehog" for 360, and as much as I love Sonic, it pretty much blew. Too much of the quicktime-like events described above and buttloads of 'cheap' deaths due to camera problems. Same camera problems as Sonic on Dreamcast--have they not learned or improved anything? That's been several years ago! I might buy one of the games mentioned above if it was used for $4. Actually, I take that back as I know it would just be more of the same
This is a game by a small group of hackers, who have been working diligently for the past 10 years trying to create a Genesis/MD style Sonic game based off of a variant of the Doom engine. Although the game has been in demo form for a very long time now, it has a very prolific modding community around it. Many consider it to be the greatest 3D sonic game ever made.
There is a full release scheduled for July.
Originally intended to be a simple sprite and music hack of Sonic 1, Megamix quickly became what many consider to be the greatest Sonic game hack ever made (In my personal opinion, I think it's the greatest Sonic game ever made period
). There are currently five characters to play as, each with their own unique abilities, and an extensive overhaul of the levels from the first Sonic game. In addition, the original levels are included. Version 5 is currently in development, which will have a full CD soundtrack, and a fourth act for every zone in an "Extra mode", among other features.Wow! That Robo Blast is way cool. Thanks for the link!

Finding a 5200 is a glorious thing. It was the last Atari system I found back when I was actively collecting, gathering and saving from oblivion. Heck, I found an XE Game System when I was wanting to find a 5200. I didn't even know what the thing was when I found it! The 5200 became my holy grail, so I was very happy when I found one.Pac-Man is probably my favorite 5200 game.
You should check out some of the homebrews. If it's still available in the store - just checked, yes it is! - I'd look for Koffi Yellow Kopter. With that you get a new, unique game for the big black beast.
Nice Avatar, Brian! I love that Snoopy and Red Baron game.

This might be a little off topic but onmode-ky have you ever thought of putting up a website for the Plug-and-Plays? That would be pretty neat with pics and screen shots. Just a thought. No, I haven't. I don't have pictures and screenshots of every plug-and-play product (not by a very, very long shot, fewer than 5 pictures, I think). I have a list, and that is all; the number that I actually own is about a dozen, far from the hundreds of products which have been released. So, with few assets and insufficient hands-on experience to even have reviews, all I can present is a list, which I have done.
Incidentally, I may have found the answer to my own question from a few days ago, when I wondered if the Tecmo TV Game, though unreleased, ever had its coding done. If you go to the ESRB website, you can find in the plug-and-play listings that there is indeed an entry for "Tecmo TV Games" (rated Everyone, no content descriptors). If the rating exists, then surely something was reviewed by the ESRB to get that rating. You can also find "Midway Gamekey - Defender/Toobin" (rated Everyone, with Animated Blood, Mild Violence) and "Midway Gamekeys - Joust/Sinistar" (rated Everyone, Mild Violence) among the entries, though no sign of a Robotron rating. In fact, there are quite a few Jakks Pacific entries there which never had a retail release. I wonder how much development funding without return on investment that adds up to.

Maybe with that development cash already spent, we'll get to see a Midway plug and play with Joust, Sinistar, Defender and Toobin someday. I'd buy that for a dollar!

People always swoon over the attractive lines of my wood-grained beauty, the marvel that is the awe-inspiring 2600. My Flashback 2(modded w/cartridge slot) which previously occupied the same spot got a few visitors' notice as well, but something about it just screamed "new toy." The shiny silver switches of my original console with a plain-looking, text-labeled Combat cartridge sticking out of it illicits a strong and enamored response from nearly every single person that sees it.
The original Atari lasted so long, and was so long without a real competitor, that it WAS video games, the word 'Atari' used for years as the words 'Band-Aid' or 'Kleenex' still are--a namesake if you will. This makes for a LARGE number of people with a wide age range who 'grew up' with this particular machine. Case in point: even my girlfriend, eleven years my junior, had one when she was a kid, handed down from older cousins. The thing about this group is, almost none of them have even seen an Atari 2600 for fifteen, twenty or more years.
One friend of mine, we'll call him Mark Markowitz, saw my Atari and busted into wild laughter as if I were a mad scientist or retardedly backward or something. Funny thing is, I later noticed that every time I'm around him and somebody mentions video games, he says something like, "you ought to see what HE's got in HIS apartment," egging me on to tell people about my Atari, an item he obviously has deemed ubercool. I, of course, see the attraction clearly. I AM the guy that owns the damn thing, donchaknow!

I asked Warren and here's his reply:"Yup --
I'm actually working on getting that old manuscript to see the light of day
now. Thanks for the pep talk.
Warren Robinett"
I hope it does see the light of day. I replied this to him:
"Would be awesome. We have a thread going on about it at AtariAge.com website. It would make front page news of course, if the book did come out.
If there's anything you want to say we'd be glad to have you. You don't even have to sign up. I can put you in direct contact with Albert the website owner."
I figured I'd say the last line in case he might want to talk, but might not want to be bothered with registering and what not.
Very interesting--thank you for posting all that. I'll certainly look forward to any possible news on the book. The file you attached was a great read.

Try a plastic washer from Home Depot or Lowe's or something?

With working Joysticks, paddles and power supply I'd say it's worth it.

Hey,So I came home after a week vacation and went to turn on my JVC CRT and nothing. It's really strange because there was absolutely no sign it was going bad. Anyway, its time to upgrade to a new flat screen I think and I've been out looking at a couple. I don't need, nor do I have the room or funds for a large TV so I'm looking for something between 22 and 32 inches. However, the question is now as to whether I get a TV or an LCD computer monitor.
I'm leaning more to a TV since I'll need a co-axel input to hook up my 2600/Genesis etc and an HDMI for my Xbox 360. I'd also like to hook up my Macbook to whatever I buy. Cable is the least of my concerns, I do have a digital cable box but it is not used all that much. I have a 19 inch CRT in my bedroom which could be used primarily for retro-gaming as well.
What are you guys using?
Seems that the LCD screens/plasma TVs etc have a pretty short life span from what I see in various places around the net. I'm sticking with good old CRT monitors and TV sets for now as they last forever, especially since these days you can get used ones for a song/free. Maybe in a few years they'll figure out how to make a seven hundred dollar flatscreen that lasts more than two or three years.
Old CRTs turn green and mess up the colors as they get old and high power circuits to drive them die.
I had a Scott 27 inch for 10 years and the picture was still good but the power section died.
I gave my parents a 25" RCA and it died in under 2 years.
The cheap LCD's have a short lifespan..
Better ones are supposed to outlast CRT TVs. At some point you would need a bulb or two replaced for the backlight.
Plasma... short lifespan.
The new OLED TVs should outlast all the others.
I've never had a CRT TV last less than a decade. Your ten year old Scott sounds like it did pretty well. I think there's hardly an electronics product made today that would last that long, especially fancy flat screen monitors/TVs. Tell me I'm wrong in 10 years.
