How hard is it to program for Atari 2600?
Sheepz replied to Koopa64's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Uh a 100 on your scale. Its very tricky, I do mean tricky! You will be lucky to even get something on the screen if you go with the 2705 assembly route. Try batari basic it combines a bit of assembly with some BASIC. -
I am looking to get another joystick controller (for my jr) and 2 paddle controllers. I am also looking for missle command, pacman, donkey kong, space invaders, adventure, yars revenge, warlords and any other ones you think would be fun.
-
Forgot about Adventure! Thats another classic too. The guy said it was all tested and is working so yeah! It looks good, not any major damage. As soon as I get it I am going to clean it up and see what I can do to restore it. Edit: Another goal of mine is to get a EPROM programmer. Saw one for about $250.

Nice idea guys! I asked because I have just won an Atari Jr. with one joystick and combat. Got this for $10 so I think I got a good deal? I guess I'm gonna have to wait a bit to play. First things to get are another joystick and warlords (my favorite game). Then I'm getting donkey kong, yars revenge, PAC-MAN, and space invaders. Got any other good games I should get?

How rare are these consoles and how much are they worth?
-
Message me then. My deal with the other guy is not final yet or anything.

-
Sorry I already have a deal worked out.

What is the difference between the 3 consoles?

I am looking to buy an Atari 2600. It must be in working order with all of the cables. It must contain atleast 2 joystick controllers but paddle controllers with the joysticks are a plus. A few games included would not hurt . My prefered method of payment is Paypal. Must be able to ship to Phoenix, Arizonia located in the United States.

I am looking into getting a 2600 and I wanted a price guide. How much should I have to pay for one?
-
Should Andrew Davie's tutorial alone be engonth to start me out with no prior knowledge of assembly?
-
LOL I'm so use to high level programming languages! That is kiddy stuff compared to this! Well they never said it would be easy.
-
Are you trying to damage my mind Devin? LOL that looks complex! Let's hope some day it will all make sense .
-
Thanks for all the help guys! You are quite the characters . Let's hope I stick around for a few years. Who knows Atari might come out with a new console .
-
I think I will start with assembly and go full steam ahead! If it proves too daunting, then I will give Batari a try. I'm happy to know I do not need an Atari 2600 to start.
-
Oh so I can give AtariAge my source code and they will put it into a cartridge for me? Well that sure makes things a whole lot easier. I should be able to get an Atari 2600 in 2 weeks or so. I have $20 right now and I am going to sell some stuff on eBay so I should have about $50 after that which should be all I need.
-
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction! How do you get the blank cartridges and put the code on them for use in the Atari 2600 thou?
-
What programs/tools do I need so I can start programming for the 2600 and make some homebrew? I do not have an Atari 2600 yet but I was wondering how I could start to learn the programming language for it. Any help is greatly apperciated. Thanks!
