Anyone who wants to know about the Bally Astrocade...
Vic George 2K3 replied to Chris++'s topic in Bally Arcade/Astrocade
I was thinking that would be the case...that little thingy on the top serving as both control stick and paddle knob, similar to (if not exactly like) the Fairchild/Zircon Channel F's control stick serving as joystick, fire button, and paddle knob. Thanks for clearing that up. -
14 New ColecoVision Games at Classic Gaming Expo

Interesting packaging. Reminds me of the collaged illustrations used in one of David Ahl's BASIC programming game books. -
Burned out from collecting / to many systems

It's hard for me to ignore, being a born-again Christian, that even this hobby will pass away and everything people work so hard to try obtaining in it. -
PBA Bowling on the Intellivision is hard, esp. running through an emulator. That would have made a good late-80s RealSports game cartridge for the 2600.

I can never say I was disappointed with Donkey Kong for the 2600. I enjoyed that version of the game enough that, when my mother sold off the 2600 and the Donkey Kong game to get the ColecoVision, I ended up getting myself another copy of 2600 Donkey Kong. I was more disappointed with the ColecoVision version having two of its screens being minus one floor and the elevator screen not having the jumping springs in addition to the fireballs. And being even more disappointed with the 2600 version of Donkey Kong Junior, which made 2600 Donkey Kong look even more polished in its design, to put it mildly.

Only a book about Smurf collectibles, but nothing about videogame-related collectibles.

Vic George 2K3 replied to Chris++'s topic in Bally Arcade/Astrocade
I can only wonder how that controller works, since I have never actually seen an Astrocade (Bally Professional Arcade) in action, and the pictures I have seen of the controller itself makes joystick controller action look somewhat improbable on it...but then, looks can be deceiving! -
Intellivision Surprises at Classic Gaming Expo
Vic George 2K3 replied to digitalpress's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I want the Namco 5-in-1 gaming stick! -
They got a mention only because it was the idea of making VHS a standard for videogaming (in that case, the unreleased Hasbro/Isix Project N.E.M.O.) that was one of the 25 dumbest moments of videogaming. But the games themselves, in my opinion, weren't dumb ideas. I would rather see at least those two games -- and probably Ground Zero Texas and Double Switch -- redone using the DVD-ROM format (if possible).

A new Intellivision 25 in 1 product

To paraphrase Sting from a popular Dire Straits song, "I want my...I want my...I want my INTV!" -
The Swordquest series was a big disappointment for me. Not even worth calling an "adventure game". The best thing that came from the series was perhaps the comic books that came packed with them.

KC Munchkin is NOT an "unauthorized sequel" to Pac-Man, let alone even a sequel to Pac-Man. It's a Pac-Man clone with some similarities to the original inspiration that unfortunately got the axe. Speaking on the subject, though, we do have "unauthorized sequels" for 2600 games in the form of hacks (Venture II, Yar's Defeat, Yar Vs. Yar), though I doubt they can really be called sequels at all.

Name the consoles you dislike (and why)
Vic George 2K3 replied to ElectricTroy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't particularly care for Nintendo's original gamepad for the original NES because of its dinky size. Fortunately there were game companies that did make NES pads the right size (and shape) for adult hands, including my favorite, the Turbo Touch 360 with its glideable control pad. -

As for game systems I personally owned? Probably the Sega CD, if only because of its necessity for another AC adapter to power that in addition to the Genesis. Sega should have just done what Coleco did with its Adam family computer add-on for the ColecoVision...have the thing and the system it's hooked up to powered entirely and directly through the add-on, whether for playing Genesis games or Sega CD games. The reason I didn't buy a Sega 32X adapter for the whole thing was for the same reason I dislike the Sega CD...it needs yet another AC adapter. Some of the FMV games like those from Digital Pictures (Sewer Shark, Ground Zero Texas, and Double Switch) were pretty good, though now they make me wish for their being re-done for the modern systems to take advantage of the DVD-ROM format (if possible). -
Post your fake box art here
Vic George 2K3 replied to Gamemaster_ca_2003's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Box art for the Super NES Smurfs game that should've been released here, but wasn't: -
I prefer the ColecoVision and ADAM Super Game versions of Buck Rogers over the Atari 2600's. Better graphics, plus more to do in the game, and it doesn't play like a racing game. Solaris would have been a better imitation of Buck Rogers if it weren't for the programmer trying to make the game a cross between Buck Rogers and Star Raiders.

Not sure if this game is rotoscoped, but Nosferatu for the SNES uses the same gameplay mechanisms as Prince of Persia and Flashback.
-
Interestingly, there is a Led Zeppelin tribute of sorts in Star Trek: 25th Anniversary for the NES with the "rune symbols" from their fourth album(?) appearing in a temple your away team must enter.
-
I still have the promotional video from Digital Pictures for a few of their games like Slam City and Zombie Island.
-
But then again, it could inspire somebody to hack the program just to get it to use the basic CV controller. Who knows?
-
I honestly don't know why Imagic ignored the 5200, but then the games they made for the Atari 8-bit computer from what I've seen and heard (Atlantis and Demon Attack, I think) weren't big leaps over the 2600 counterparts. Considering that, they most likely just didn't bother.
-
I just see this as a choice of whether you want a game player or an all-out entertainment system (something 3DO tried to aspire to but could never achieve, perhaps?).
-
Sounds like Video Whizball for the Fairchild/Zircon Channel F crossed with Space War.
