I just know that the "double firing" trick on 2600 Space Invaders DOESN'T require any "frying". Interestingly, the same simple trick of holding down the Reset button or switch when you turn on your game system and then releasing it when the game screen appears also works on the Z26 emulator...the only thing now is to hold down the key used for the Reset button between the time you select the game (assuming you're using a front-end program with your Z26) and the time the game screen actually appears onscreen, and then release it afterward.

Far as I know, Mattel obtained the rights for a Scooby Doo game for their Intellivision ECS computer adapter.

The Swordquest: Waterworld comic is pretty interesting, but I don't see anything in it about Torr and Tara even laying hands on the Crown of Life which they see at the beginning before it vanishes on them.

Actually, Game Genie was a Code Masters invention; Galoob only got the American rights to distribute it, and Camerica the Canadian rights. As far as Nintendo's lawsuit against Galoob, all it did was prevent that company from distributing the Game Genie until a year later when the decision was overturned in Galoob's favor. However, Nintendo couldn't stop Camerica from selling the Game Genie in Canada, so they got it earlier.

My favorite 3D-platform games are Super Mario 64, Banjo Kazooie, and Jak & Daxter: The Precursor Legacy. I never played Conker's BFD, and considering how the character went from cutesy-clean to cussy-cute in the manner of South Park, I don't regret not playing it. Donkey Kong 64 was a little too complicated for me to enjoy, and the same goes for Banjo-Tooie.

Super Mario Wacky Worlds Prototype

They could've stuck with finishing off programming the game IF Nintendo hadn't been trying to court both Sony and Phillips at the same time trying to get either of them to do the SNES-CD adapter and then jettisoning the whole idea together. -
So, anybody have a complete Colecovision System?
Vic George 2K3 replied to Zeus's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm far from having a complete system of ColecoVision games. But then, I'd rather have the games for it I want to play over and over again rather than those I might never touch in a good long while, if ever. -
Can a crash happen again?

There was also the mentality that videogames were nothing more than a passing fad, an introductory step into the world of computers, and marketing shifted from doing videogames to doing personal computer programs and games. People who wrote videogame magazines back then couldn't foresee the possibility of a videogame market revival like the one that took place in the late 1980s with Nintendo taking the dominant spot over the former king-of-the-hill Atari. It was definitely not a transitory time at all between one generation of game systems and another; it was more like the Tribulation period that left people wondering what could possibly follow in the absence of videogame systems. -
Not really much of a price drop. More like giving people a $20 discount on the original model.

I only subscribed to it. What I wanted was to do my own kind of videogame publication or something.

Game Launcher, which you can pick up at Zophar's Domain, is a good universal front-end launcher for Z26.
-
Just DLed the latest Windows version of Z26 and got it running using Game Launcher as my front end. Other than having the sound being upped an octave, it's pretty good.

Super Breakout, Galaxian, Pac-Man, and Space Invaders, far as I know.

And there's also the Game Gear, which is actually a portable Sega Master System which, through a Master Gear adapter, can actually play Master System games (not including the card format games). And for home systems, there's the Intellivision 2 and the DINA/Personal Arcade, a ColecoVision-compatible in a smaller casing.

Which generation of games did NOT impress you?
Vic George 2K3 replied to ElectricTroy's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I didn't think it was a waste, except for the fact that it was the second home system Nintendo developed that they didn't make any use of the expansion port slot (except in Japan, where the Dynamic Drive adapter they've been dangling in our faces like a carrot was released). As far as what generation of systems failed to impress me...I haven't come across that generation yet. Though it's most likely that what would follow the Playstation 2, the X-Box, and the Gamecube would be the generation of systems that could potentially fail to impress me. -
I was taking advantage of whatever good (and possibly good) games I could buy for the Atari 2600 around $5-10, building up my collection when the market slowly started to deteriorate. The ColecoVision was a bit harder to get games for for less than $10 as a bargain, though I managed to get titles like Smurf Rescue, Ladybug, and Cosmic Avenger for around $10-15 each. However, much of my classic game hunting for those two systems would end up being at tag sales by the late 1980s, and my beloved Atari 2600 and 7800 collection wound up being sold off at a tag sale in 1991 to make way for an NES collection.

I think Nintendo did the name Starfox justice when they developed the eponymous game for the Super NES and Nintendo 64 (with the latter being the best of the two). I owned that and Sorceror for the 2600, and even though it cost me $1 for each, neither were really worth the bargain.
-
I was 20 when I wrote that letter to the Atarian magazine.
-
Well, that was me back then! And what was I thinking? That the 7800 really needed some good games...not that I didn't enjoy the remakes of classic arcade games.
-
Difficulty switches, mostly used for 2600 games, though some 7800 games use them like Xevious and Tower Toppler.

Bill and Ted took Dr. Who's vehicle for a time-travelling trip by mistake. They like the amount of room it provides but think its speed is totally bogus!

Why do some games have bars on the side?
Vic George 2K3 replied to ElectricTroy's topic in Atari 2600
It's for bar code scanners! LOL -
I cant stand these newer systems

As opposed to walking into an 80's arcade and seeing 300 Pacman ripoffs, 300 Space Invaders ripoffs, and 300 Pole Position ripoffs? But yeah, I'd rather play Lock 'n' Chase than most of the lame-ass "stealth" games. --Zero Funny, I didn't see 300 Pac-Man ripoffs, 300 Space Invader ripoffs, and 300 Pole Position ripoffs back then. Sure, there were clones and imitators, but there was a lot more variety in the arcade gaming back then than there is now. Besides, some of the games I fell in love with were found in bowling alleys and skating rinks that bought pretty much anything that had a video screen and a coin slot for sucking in your quarters. -
I wonder if we would see a Smurf game released with the Atari label? LOL
