It's not a bashing with me, it's the honest truth...the 5200 controllers do stink! I'd rather have a ColecoVision controller over a 5200 controller on any given day.

Attack Of The Killer Walls! Pretty interesting game.

Space Football: One On One for the SNES does Ballblazer better.

I don't see a problem with remaking games like Ms. Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Centipede, Joust, and even Asteroids on the 7800. The only problem I saw with the system is simply not getting the support it should have, plus Nintendo's licensing system having a vampiric effect on what could be produced for systems other than the NES at the time. And of course, the Tramiels trying to also market the XE computer line as yet another game system.

Yeah, I think it's getting redundant. But I would still play 2600 Donkey Kong over 2600 Pac-Man on any given day.

Or build a dual joystick holder for two Atari 2600 joystick controllers, like the "Pac-table" idea Ken Uston had for playing Atari 2600 Pac-Man.

I played Armor Battle on the Intellivision (which is the original version of Armor Ambush) and I think it's a good game, just different as far as what one would want in a tank battle game. It's more for those who want realism rather than just a typical arcade-type maze shooter.

That was perfect as a tongue-in-cheek joke to the Star Wars merchandizing mania. Not that anyone really needs Spaceballs merchandise even to the same level as Star Wars merchandise, but anyway it was funny to see even self-referential "merchandise" in the bathroom of Mel Brooks' President Scrube. Makes me think of that "What's Cute...And What's Not" in an issue of MAD Magazine where it says "ET in the theatres is cute...ET all over your house is not", and we see a bathroom that's just so wall-to-wall with ET.

I still think Adam West's Batman costume is cheesy in comparison with the comic book interpretations from the 1970s onward. And even with the coloring scheme which is inconsistent with the color scheme of a bat (though I personally don't know of any bats that are blue and gray), John Byrne at the very least made it clear in his interpretation of the classic Batman costume that he does NOT have a black face portion on the mask itself; it's merely a simple shadow drawn in to offset Batman's face from the rest of the mask. Anyway, Warner Communications held the rights to DC Comics properties, so if anyone was going to make a Batman game back then (as if anyone could make a Batman game), it would have to be the pre-Tramiel Atari.

BLEECH! The decal artwork on that Coleco tabletop Pac-Man clone is just disgusting. At least it's an interesting find.

As far as videogame speech goes, I think the arcade game Bosconian pretty much ranks as highly annoying. I mean, the voice that's supposed to say, "Blast off", ends up sounding more like, "Lock off", as if it were a disguised obscenity. And "Alert! Alert!" ends up sounding more like "Alight! Alight!". That part can be excused, but there is really no excuse for "Blast off" to sound like "Lock off". What do you think is the most annoying videogame speech, not counting voice-acting on CD games?

First use of video game sounds in music?
Vic George 2K3 replied to Room 34's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I only know of the Pretenders' "Space Invaders" which used the sounds of the arcade machine near the end of the song, and of course the song output of Buckner & Garcia, but nothing earlier than that. Of course, I did notice that a song from the Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me soundtrack did use the sound effects from the arcade game Arkanoid in it. (I know that's digressing from the topic.) -
Will we see carts again?
Vic George 2K3 replied to SuperDork3000's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Hmmm...the difference between portables and handhelds...I think the former is most likely referring to something that can be carried around and has its own screen and controls, and may or may not have its own power supply, but cannot easily fit into a small space when it is carried around. The only last example of that, though, would be the Virtual Boy. -
I would have liked Solaris better if it were actually an improved version of Buck Rogers: Planet Of Zoom and not a hybrid game.
-
I still didn't care for the results of the lawsuit...putting the similar-in-concept-but-altogether-different K.C. Munchkin game off the market in order to sell what would become a decidedly inferior version of Pac-Man.

It is a hack of Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Banditos(?) for the SNES.

How did Atari ever let Swordquest get out the door?
Vic George 2K3 replied to Mind Master's topic in Atari 2600
Given that the Intellivision had some really advanced (for its time) action-based fantasy adventure games like the two Advanced Dungeons & Dragons games plus Imagic's Swords & Serpents, I was disappointed in Atari's Swordquest offerings since I was looking forward to something that was similar to Adventure but would offer more in the way of action. This going from room to room, playing watered-down mini-games in order to find various objects was not what I really wanted in an adventure game. Alas, the kind of adventure game I wanted to play would end up making its first appearance on the NES in the form of Legend Of Zelda. The only good thing that came out of the Swordquest experiment were the comics, and even at that, Atari could have done better. -
Given what I heard about its content, I'm steering clear of any GTA games. And I find the GTA: Vice City commercial's use of the Flock Of Seagulls "I Ran" a good way to destroy one's memory of a song that had all the innocence of TRON had this band been called to do the musical soundtrack to the movie. No thanks!

Does everyone hate Intellivision or something?
Vic George 2K3 replied to Brad2600's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I don't hate the Intellivision. I'm just not a very big fan of the system like I am with the Atari 2600 and the ColecoVision. -
I tried this game on both the Atari 2600 and the ColecoVision. I personally don't find either interesting enough for long-term playing. More for like, "I'm bored and I have nothing that I really want to play".

I cant stand these newer systems
Vic George 2K3 replied to Vectrex-Atari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I do admire the Playstation Dual Shock controllers for the designer's eye to simplicity, despite it having the same (or similar) number of buttons that the Gamecube controller does. Personally, I like the feel of the dual control sticks better than the single control stick of the Nintendo 64 controller. The design of the Gamecube controller does look like somebody must have been high on some mind-altering substance. I don't like how the control sticks on the X-Box controller (which my half-brother got) are arranged, either. -
Donkey Kong 64 isn't a reiteration of the original Donkey Kong at all, it's more like a Super Mario 64-style version of Donkey Kong Country, which also isn't like the original Donkey Kong. So I wouldn't call that game "the N64 version of Donkey Kong", even though it does contain the original arcade game within, which I never played far enough in to find. As far as the Gameboy version of Donkey Kong...that can be compared to the arcade version, and as far as the comparison goes, it falls flat in its trying to offer 100 different screens to complete, which ends up turning the game into an action-based puzzle game more like Miner 2049er or Jumpman or Lode Runner. I would rather have Donkey Kong and Donkey Kong Junior on a single Gameboy cart, and do away with something like the e-Reader.

Where do you mostly buy games from?
Vic George 2K3 replied to junglehunter's topic in Classic Console Discussion
As far as old games go, pretty much anywhere I can find them within a reasonable price and within a good travelling distance from where I live. Same sometimes for new games.
