There's some problems with that idea. 1) Mr. Gimmick! PAL is know to display graphics problems when played on an NTSC system 2) The PAL version is very expensive and hard to find. 3) If you buy from RetroUSB, no original carts are sacrificed. There's a reason Bunnyboy bothered to go to all the trouble of getting a hold of the US beta of Mr. Gimmick and manufacturing a unique (and likely very expensive) board type for it. Late era NES games tend to work on odd and costly mappers and board types, not like older games that often had a common cart type (like say CNROM, UNROM and SNROM).
-
Well it would certainly be pretty awesome if RetroUSB took the Super Fighter Team approach and acquire licenses to publish these unreleased games on cartridge, but that tends to cost a lot of money and the companies can be difficult to contact. In fact, these days quite a few don't exist anymore. I'm not sure Sunsoft is in business anymore (they developed Mr. Gimmick!).

You're forgetting something horseboy, RetroUSB uses all-new parts to make it's reproductions. In a way you can say they are original products that come from a particular source (though they do allow you to buy the parts separately to make your own repros).

Yeah, people tend to have differing opinions on Mortal Kombat II 32X. Some hate it for it's lack of features found in the SNES version, while others like the 32X port for what it manages to get right and remain content with that.

But he's got a shopping cart so I don't have to interact with him (unlike most of the rest). Because of this, all of my NES repros have come from him, and I've never really considered anybody who requires donors or emails as an option. Thats true maybe him and me had a bad start years ago and I am just holding a grudge perhaps, I might order something from him to let bygons be bygons Back in 2009 I bought an Earth Bound cartridge (NES of course) from him and everything went smoothly, though of course it did take some significant time to receive my game. Today that cart still works and saves fine. Recently I bought an EPROM w/game, a label and a sleeve and am currently waiting for it. I don't think there's anything particularly wrong with GameRepro. He operates like a business, no shame in that. I suppose yes it's a matter of taste whether you'd like to treat the person you're buying from like a person rather than a machine...

Its in the MAIL! What Are You Waiting For!

There was a strike at the Canada Post, some items migh be delayed Yes, but that was over a month ago! Surely by now anything that was sitting around during the strike has reached it's destination. EDIT: Put down an extra "by now" by accident. -
I love my 32X as well. Currently sitting on half the US cartridge library (exactly 19 titles), all in original boxes and manuals.

I think Bunnyboy just doesn't want unscrupulous people to buy his products and try to pass them off as authentic releases. Mr. Gimmick! was released in Europe and Japan. It wouldn't be very hard to fool someone into thinking it did have a US release, albeit extremely tiny, and charge him out the ass for it. This worry has been all over NintendoAge for quite a long time now and it's a legitimate concern. Scamming and counterfeiting has already destroyed the NEO-GEO market, making it extremely dangerous to enter with authentic games in mind, clearly NintendoAge feels this shouldn't happen with their market either. If it's really that huge an issue for you, why not buy a Euro copy of Mr. Gimmick!, scan the label and make a copy* for use with your reproduction copy? Just don't hand out the original scan to anyone... *Use Kinkos.

RetroUSB has gray listed in the cart color drop down menu. Why not check out the actual selling page before making up your mind?

Did any company ever release a GB/GBA CONSOLE?
Koopa64 replied to Pixelboy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I haven't seen much of this SD adapter, just that the fans praise it up and down like it was a gift from god. I've heard those Datel Game Port things have some compatibility issues, not to mention they sometimes have performance problems and don't play GB/GBC games. I'd get one as an amusing oddity though. -

If you honestly can't find a boot disc for your Game Boy Player, another option is to install a mod chip in your Gamecube (very easy, I used a XenoGC which was about $30), then go find a disc image of the Game Boy Player Start-up Disc and burn it onto a mini DVD-R. An added bonus of doing this is the Gamecube is now region free and can play backups. Sometimes you need to adjust the laser intensity after installing a modchip though, but it isn't hard to do. Pretty sure to turn the laser intensity potentiometer, it goes counter-clockwise. -
Are you using TheNESDump? If so, you just have to email coinheaven. His address is in the contact info page on the left column of the site. He tends to have donor carts available, but sometimes he doesn't. The buyer providing a sacrificial cart usually shaves about $5 off the price. He takes Paypal too. Between the 3 major repro sites, NES, Game and NESDump, the latter has by far the fastest turnaround time. Roughly a week, whereas NES is 2 or 3 IIRC and Game is about 1 month, but I think that's due to his often large amount of orders.

You could probably just consolize an existing Game Boy. All you'd need is a video encoder (maybe possible, maybe not), a multi-AV jack (or whatever you feel like including) and a joystick port. But to save space, you could skip the Joystick port and just use the original Game Boy controls instead. -
That's what I thought too when I first saw it. It's truly an incredible hack. The original designers of SMB (surely it's more than just Miyamoto) should definitely see it eventually. I too bought a copy of it from TheNESDump (I bet that's where you got yours too).

I'm currently waiting for a huge ass box of parts and cables from Rewind Bits .co.uk which has been in the mail for a month now. I figure the guy running the site sent it via surface. Also waiting for a Sony CXA2075 video encoder and a Ninja Commando MVS cart... Or at least, I hope it's in the mail. The seller hasn't told me if he's shipped it yet and hasn't visited the forum since August 1st. I sent him a PM on the 3rd... I need to make another Mouser order. -
I purchased a PSP-1001 from Golden Ax on July 18th. He promptly shipped the item and payment went smoothly, but unfortunately it had been sent twice by accident. Since this sort of thing rarely happens to most people, it took a long time to completely refund the duplicate payment. In the end, Golden Ax strongly held up his end of the transaction and all was fine. This is a top grade seller, extremely trustworthy and deserves his solid reputation! I would deal with him again any day of the week! By far one of the absolute best sellers on AtariAge!

Some Girls Prefer Shoes. I Prefer These

Killer find on that 4-slot NEO-GEO cab! Even if the box of 16 carts are all bootlegs, next to nothing is an excellent price nonetheless. -
Does the PSPGo have a Memory stick pro duo slot? If so, it's very likely the device will get hacked with custom firmware on day. In the mean time, I've heard the same soft CFW install used on unhackable 2000s and 3000s can be applied to a PSPGo. It's a great option for someone who wants to use a nice new PSP with all the same great software that Sony hates.

Please, stop thinking of hacking up a PBC to work with Genesis carts. It's simply not possible. For one thing the SMS cart slot has fewer pins than the Genesis slot AND it's also differently designed. Genesis carts sort of snap into the slot, whereas SMS carts can insert of varying degrees into the slot. Not to mention, as others have said here, the SMS grounds some of the Genesis cart slot connections to switch the machine into SMS mode. Just stop being a lazy ass and learn to remove the PBC when you want to play Genesis games, or buy a separate SMS console. Is it really so hard to do that?!

I doubt anyone would do a group buy just for you. My suggestion is wait until you do have $20 of stuff to buy from them. How hard can it be? Buy some spare parts in case stuff breaks!

Personally, I think the usual suspects and commons across most vintage systems will retain or have their values degrade over the next decade and beyond. For at least a few more years I'm positive prices won't budge much online. Perhaps the only difference we'll see on the way to 2020 is 5th and 6th gen systems will have retro markets established for themselves better, akin to 8 and 16-bit systems right now. By 2020 the N64's rares and valuables will become more recognized and will be worth more and in general, more people will be after the popular titles, increasing their values as well. This happened with the SNES and PS1 over time, same thing will happen to the N64 soon enough and later the GameCube, Xbox and other systems like that.

People wanted a gaming TV station, Tech TV was created, then it became G4 Tech TV, then just G4 and the quality of the station went further into the mud with each name change. I don't think we'll ever see a newer and better gaming channel if G4 doesn't get canned. As others have said here, there's lots to be had on YouTube, not to mention the rest of the internet.

Man the Virtual boy can take a beating
Koopa64 replied to STICH666's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Ribbon cable, huh? If one puts their mind to it, you can learn and gain the experience to solder something like that. Just do the following: - Get an iron with a small tip, with some rosin core lead-based solder - Buy some flux (works well with rosin core solder) and a desoldering iron (probably with a small tip too) - Practice, practice, practice on worthless stuff like a dead DVD player. I say this because I for one don't know of anyone who specifically offers a service for fixing Virtual Boys. I'm not a good candidate because I'm in Canada and I've never owned a Virtual Boy before. -
There's an easy fix for that wccw mark, just go to The Cover Project (not the music site), see if Phantasy Star IV has a cover made for it, then take that thing to Kinkos or something and have them print it out for you. Genesis inserts don't really feel that laminated to me (maybe a thin laminate), so it would be pretty simple and cheap to get an insert printed out. Extra plastic cases aren't too hard to find, just grab a cheap $1 sports game in a clamshell.

How small are the display wires? It might not be too bad. If you aren't that confident in your soldering skills, buy a desoldering iron (even a cheapo one) and get some flux! The latter is a must when doing electronic soldering. It helps solder to stick to certain metal surfaces. I've had lots that my solder didn't like, such as wires or through-hole components. Flux also helps to prevent cold solder joints and it can also help keep solder from touching eachother on closely positioned pins. Oh yeah, if the wires are super tiny, you might want to get a smaller tip for your iron. That's something I should do for when I'm fixing Game Gears.
