  1. I like how nobody will ever dare speak of such atrocities and heresy on Nintendo systems, but when it's something like a Sega system? Butcher them boxes like it's going outta style! Mega Drive newbies never show any respect...

  2. I too appreciate the N64 controller for what it is, a shot in the dark of the polygonal world. The same thing was common with the "phone" controllers of the early 80s, just experimentation because nobody knew what was the best way to make a good yet multi-functional controller. I love how so many people here fail to realize the parallel here.

The N64 was probably the 4th or 5th system I ever had contact with. Prior machines were Apple ][, SNES, the Game Boy line and Windows PC.

  3. Hmm, I don't think there's much advantage in my offer then, unless you like the idea of having two Turbo systems. For what it's worth, AV jacks are stupid easy to put on a TG16. The only hard parts are desoldering part of the RF shielding and drilling the case properly. Now a region mod is another matter entirely.

Is that loose Genesis a High Definition Graphics Model 1 system? That Neo Geo MV-1FZ is pretty tantalizing, though I really shouldn't seeing as I already have one.

EDIT: Didn't see that you have a pic collection up. Cool stuff. Don't see those arcade boards though.

Man... Too much nice stuff on AtariAge (including here) and not enough cash to satisfy everything. I'd trade, but my stuff is largely junk.

  4. Yeah, I don't get the problem of understanding incompatibility between systems either. It's not like CD and DVD based consoles where the discs are of the same physical properties, aside from the consoles themselves. Most every game cartridge is significantly different from system to system. All you have to do is show the kid that Super Mario 64 doesn't fit in the SNES. Problem solved and the kid learns something new.

  5. I probably got it at a retail chain like Wal-Mart. Definitely wasn't online.

EDIT: This is also the Canadian version. Note the French text on an otherwise US-region box. (I know most of the text is too small to see, but you can read French on the ESRB rating on the back)

  6. Not true. I know of a few Xbox 360 games that are only available in Europe including a darts game that came on the official Xbox magazine demo disk one month a few years ago. A quick Wiki search confirms there are many more exclusives on the 360...

Then I must be in possession of the rarest North American 360 game ever.

A pressed disc is pretty hard to fake.

  7. Sometimes goodness can come from mislabeled products. I remember buying a labeled Q-Bert game for the NES that turned out to be Life Force. I didn't return it, though.

Did you actually buy that new at retail? If not, it's really easy for someone to open two NES carts and swap the PCBs between them.

Now a misprinted optical disc is definitely something that cannot be faked. Certainly a collector's piece that is!

  8. @Huckle_Cat:

You are mistaken on that Fisher Price comment. The FAMICOM looks like it was designed by Fisher Price.

To be fair though, you probably are 14, so there's no way in hell you'd know about a console this old.

For comparison's sake and a reminder to anyone else who is color blind, this is what an N64 and Gamecube look like:
