  1. Personally, I think the usual suspects and commons across most vintage systems will retain or have their values degrade over the next decade and beyond. For at least a few more years I'm positive prices won't budge much online. Perhaps the only difference we'll see on the way to 2020 is 5th and 6th gen systems will have retro markets established for themselves better, akin to 8 and 16-bit systems right now. By 2020 the N64's rares and valuables will become more recognized and will be worth more and in general, more people will be after the popular titles, increasing their values as well. This happened with the SNES and PS1 over time, same thing will happen to the N64 soon enough and later the GameCube, Xbox and other systems like that.
  2. People wanted a gaming TV station, Tech TV was created, then it became G4 Tech TV, then just G4 and the quality of the station went further into the mud with each name change. I don't think we'll ever see a newer and better gaming channel if G4 doesn't get canned. As others have said here, there's lots to be had on YouTube, not to mention the rest of the internet.
  3. Ribbon cable, huh? If one puts their mind to it, you can learn and gain the experience to solder something like that. Just do the following: - Get an iron with a small tip, with some rosin core lead-based solder - Buy some flux (works well with rosin core solder) and a desoldering iron (probably with a small tip too) - Practice, practice, practice on worthless stuff like a dead DVD player. I say this because I for one don't know of anyone who specifically offers a service for fixing Virtual Boys. I'm not a good candidate because I'm in Canada and I've never owned a Virtual Boy before.
  4. There's an easy fix for that wccw mark, just go to The Cover Project (not the music site), see if Phantasy Star IV has a cover made for it, then take that thing to Kinkos or something and have them print it out for you. Genesis inserts don't really feel that laminated to me (maybe a thin laminate), so it would be pretty simple and cheap to get an insert printed out. Extra plastic cases aren't too hard to find, just grab a cheap $1 sports game in a clamshell.
  5. How small are the display wires? It might not be too bad. If you aren't that confident in your soldering skills, buy a desoldering iron (even a cheapo one) and get some flux! The latter is a must when doing electronic soldering. It helps solder to stick to certain metal surfaces. I've had lots that my solder didn't like, such as wires or through-hole components. Flux also helps to prevent cold solder joints and it can also help keep solder from touching eachother on closely positioned pins. Oh yeah, if the wires are super tiny, you might want to get a smaller tip for your iron. That's something I should do for when I'm fixing Game Gears.
  6. Hah, I've got the later Majesco re-release of Sonic 3 in cardboard. The game's label is all dark and bootleg-lookin', and it's in a freakin' Acclaim shell Man, it looks so cheap. The Super Nintendo had some re-releases made by Majesco as well. You can identify them in a few ways: - Front label feels papery and is not laminated (!) - Manufactured in Mexico - Included manual probably in black and white - Back half of the cartridge shell has the text molded into the plastic, instead of a label. I wish people stopped treating the Genesis like it's icky or something. It has many parallels with the SNES (and mind you a lot of stark contrasts as well).
  7. Too bad this display cable problem isn't just a soldering problem or like on the 32X with a pair of ribbon cables which can cause the unit to not function. VBs may not take beatings very well, but they sure do have one hell of a markup. If it weren't for the ridiculous prices, I'd have bought one a long time ago.
  8. I like how nobody will ever dare speak of such atrocities and heresy on Nintendo systems, but when it's something like a Sega system? Butcher them boxes like it's going outta style! Mega Drive newbies never show any respect...
  9. I too appreciate the N64 controller for what it is, a shot in the dark of the polygonal world. The same thing was common with the "phone" controllers of the early 80s, just experimentation because nobody knew what was the best way to make a good yet multi-functional controller. I love how so many people here fail to realize the parallel here. The N64 was probably the 4th or 5th system I ever had contact with. Prior machines were Apple ][, SNES, the Game Boy line and Windows PC.
  10. Never heard of MKCD failing to work in a Model 1 Sega CD. You sure the disc isn't too scratched? Do any other scratchy discs work in your tray loader? Model 1s are certainly known for failing to work that's for sure. Post this thread on Sega-16, lots of tech gurus over there who've been able to fix their tray loading Sega CDs.
  11. Ooh boy, juicy stuff in that thread on NG.com. Perfect example of why that place is the best place to do business. Any monkey business is quickly nipped in the bud.
  12. I did buy that PSP1001, didn't I? Thread could do with a bit of updating.
  13. Home console shells can make excellent arcade board consolization cases. MVS is a popular choice. Definitely don't throw any of them away or make em into tacky lamps! Hell, offer them in the marketplace, there always seems to be a small yet constant demand for console shells.
  14. For the Genesis 1 system, remove the 32X and see if it says "High Definition Graphics" behind the cartridge slot (talking about the top of the console shell). Graphics problems don't sound too good with that MVS. Did you get it diagnosed over at Neo-geo.com? Fixing those boards is a little too hardcore for me at the moment.
  15. The GBA SP2 was released in only three colors. Graphite, Blue and Pink. It should be easy to find one if you know what colors they are.
  16. MVS is way better because it's easier on the wallet. Grab a soldering iron and join your fellow brothers, Gravey!
  17. Hmm, I don't think there's much advantage in my offer then, unless you like the idea of having two Turbo systems. For what it's worth, AV jacks are stupid easy to put on a TG16. The only hard parts are desoldering part of the RF shielding and drilling the case properly. Now a region mod is another matter entirely. Is that loose Genesis a High Definition Graphics Model 1 system? That Neo Geo MV-1FZ is pretty tantalizing, though I really shouldn't seeing as I already have one. EDIT: Didn't see that you have a pic collection up. Cool stuff. Don't see those arcade boards though. Man... Too much nice stuff on AtariAge (including here) and not enough cash to satisfy everything. I'd trade, but my stuff is largely junk.
  18. I was looking at your wants list and I noticed you mentioned a TG16 + Turbo Booster. Would you take a TG-16 with RCA jacks mounted on the case instead?
  19. http://www.atariage.com/forums/topic/185026-fs-neo-geo-carts-cds/ I think those high value items of yours will come in handy.
  20. Not a problem. Glad I could be of some help. :)

  21. Hm, pretty slick way of tackling that cartridge slot! Nice work.
  22. Here, I fixed your Mario gif. All it needed was for one duplicate frame to be removed. This particular Mario only needs 3 frames to walk forward. :)

  23. Yeah, I don't get the problem of understanding incompatibility between systems either. It's not like CD and DVD based consoles where the discs are of the same physical properties, aside from the consoles themselves. Most every game cartridge is significantly different from system to system. All you have to do is show the kid that Super Mario 64 doesn't fit in the SNES. Problem solved and the kid learns something new.
  24. You do know your Mario avatar is walking backwards... Right?

  25. I probably got it at a retail chain like Wal-Mart. Definitely wasn't online. EDIT: This is also the Canadian version. Note the French text on an otherwise US-region box. (I know most of the text is too small to see, but you can read French on the ESRB rating on the back)
