Good online places to resurface discs?
Koopa64 replied to Koopa64's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Because I don't have thousands of dollars just kickin around. Could you have possibly asked a dumber question? -
Don't try to fight it Gunstar, let the enlightenment of Sega's Genesis fulfill your existence. Your words indicate your true love lies with Sega... Accept it with open arms my brother.

Off the top of my head, I've had 3 fully dead carts. a Genesis Game Genie, Ecco 2: The Tides of Time and recently Killer Instinct Gold. Their PCBs are in reasonably decent shape. No rust from what I see. They just don't work, at all. No matter how many consoles I plug them into. Interestingly though, I got a rusted up Ice Hockey (NES) cart to work again. Just scraped off that rust and things were better.

If Shock Boxes were designed for protecting a different object, then why wouldn't it have become common knowledge by now? Even Big Bear himself probably would have mentioned it. That's just how tight knit communities go. It seems a LOT of the projects created on NG.com are made by people with deep pockets. Like say the NeoSaveMasta, NeoBiosMasta, UniBIOS and those replacement Neo LED PCB prototypes recently. A custom mold for the Shock Boxes definitely doesn't seem out of place now does it?

Anything to be associated with something good nathanallan, which in this case is the only way such a show will ever be considered "good". @7800fan: Yes, it is indeed a shame kid's cartoons have sunk to such a low. It's a disgrace to new people who will at this rate, end up never appreciating ANYTHING half-way decent, let alone fully good.

Big Bear on neo-geo.com made them I think. Shock Boxes are for MVS games, since all they shipped in was crappy cardboard boxes. What are you talking about with your "I don't think they were designed for Neo games"? Of course they were!

I don't care what kind of plugs this show has to vintage gaming. It is a retarded ass show. I can't get over that fucking UGLY art style! YUCK. I've noticed this a lot with new pieces of entertainment for hipsters. They're all starting to have references to old gaming and I am getting sick and tired of it. Stop associating yourself with vintage gaming, it does NOT make you or your media any cooler. /rant

Trust me, it's been way worse before. If I had the time and money, I'd rebuild the room and make things super organized. However, I am a cheap ass so things will have to stay messy. I should really update this thread if people are actually viewing it now. Significant changes have been made. I think I'll do that after I finish this project I'm working on.

There had better be Pikmin 3 mentioned at this E3... Or I'm gonna do something terrible...
-
I'd try and fix the broken items personally. Worth a try at least. There are ways to repair Genesis cartridges (and NES carts from what I've seen). Unless of course the mask ROM(s) is/are dead, then there's nothing you can do about the cart... Except maybe use it for a repro donor, or swap the chips with a board that's all rusted but has good chips.

Extra sound channels and FC-NES adapters
Koopa64 replied to Reaperman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
IIRC, the extra sound channel connections were relocated from the NES cart slot to the expansion slot on the underside of the console. I suppose if one had pinouts for both the exp and cart slots, you could easily do the modification. I wasn't aware of the game / FC adapter needing modifications too. -
You can get new 7805s off Mouser Electronics. I got 5 of them in case I ever need some regulated 5 volts.
-
Me too AtariLeaf. Because of that looming strike, I have a AA Marketplace transaction and a Mouser order on hold.

Unless you have sensitive data on Sega-16, I don't think you should be worried about the attacks (except for the downtime). Hell, I never changed my password after the site came back the first time and I doubt anything bad will happen because of that.

This not the same hack as before.

I wonder if SNK has any of their old NEO-GEO beat em ups on compilation packs yet. Most of them were terrible, but they had their qualities (especially if you like the first Final Fight). I think I heard something about a Sengoku collection perhaps. Sengoku 3 (in Japan, it's called Sengoku 2001) is the best beat em up on NG.

I'm not much of a sound guy, but maybe a new replacement speaker could be located. I'm definitely not the right person to ask though, I know nothing of the tiny details and differences between (A) speaker and (B) speaker.

As far as I'm concerned, my world ended that night (May 21st). Sega-16 is down for the count again. Seriously, who in their right mind would want to attack a fansite? I'm talking about any and all the attacks done unto Sega-16 recently. As for this attack, it sounds like a problem was dormant but became active when the site was updated. Probably not as big an attack as the last times, but sounds like a far bigger problem. Melf is even looking into signing on with another server provider.

Lubricate your N64 control sticks. I use a silicon based lube personally (haven't noticed any nasty side-effects yet)

If you get the right size of flatblade screwdriver, you can still unscrew tri-wing screws. I've done it lots on GBA carts.
-
D-Pad isn't working? That's usually caused by dirt, or the rubber contact pad is wearing out. If cleaning the D-Pad, both sides of the rubber pad and the metal contacts on the board with isopropyl alcohol doesn't help, you'll probably have to get a donor GBC and raid it for parts (ones with broken screens are good candidates). Somebody really needs to standardize a mod to consolize handheld systems with broken screens. That would be absolutely awesome and Game Boys with dead screens could be re-purposed.
-
IIRC, the power switch in the GBC is surface mounted. It'd probably be a real easy fix if you can find the right kind of switch to replace it with. Just desolder the old switch (if it's what broke) and solder on the new switch. Digi-Key and Mouser deal with selling parts like that. In the mean time, if you are super desperate to play your Game Boy Color, you could probably add a temporary fix like two short wires attached to the two switch solder joints to tie together to apply power. When it's time to turn off the system, you could remove one battery.

You mean *phew!*. Cheap enemies are a staple of beat em ups. Best to grab a friend and watch eachother's backs.

A sealed copy has sold for over 40k. The game is the biggest factor of the value. That was never verified. The guy never paid. Exactly. Please return to your seat horseboy.
