In Mel Brooks' classic film parody Young Frankenstein (1974), Cloris Leachman plays the character of Frau Blucher. If you've seen this great film, you know that every time someone utters the words "Frau Blucher" the whinnying of horses can be heard. Somehow an explanation for this running gag arose, which claimed that the hidden reason for the horses' reaction was that Frau Blucher's name sounds like the German word for glue, implying that the horses fear ending up in a glue factory. But if you bother to look up the word "glue" in German, you won't find any word that is even close to "Blucher" or "Blücher." Do the words der Klebstoff or der Leim sound even remotely similar?
On the other hand, if you look up Blücher, some German dictionaries do list the expression "er geht ran wie Blücher" ("he doesn't loaf around/he goes at it like Blücher"), but that refers to the Prussian general Gebhard Leberecht von Blücher (1742-1819), who earned the name "Marschall Vorwärts" ("[Field] Marshal Forward") for his victories over the French at Katzbach and (with Wellington) at Waterloo (1815). In other words, Blücher (or Blucher) is just a German surname. It has no particular meaning as a normal word in German and certainly does not mean "glue"!
Turns out that director Mel Brooks was just having some fun with a classic cinematic "villain" gag from old melodramas. There is no real logic for the horses' neighing, since most of the time there is no way they could even see or hear Frau Blucher or the people saying her name. Now you can just enjoy Young Frankenstein—without any dopey "glue" myth.
I am still not convinced that this is a real proto!

thanks for the explanation of that gag! i just realized that i mispelled frau blucher . oh well
i normally am not around on the weekends. if you notice, none of my posts have been made on the weekend. i am either visiting my mother in florida or running somewhere with my father. any way, thanks to al for dumping the game. i am awaiting an answer from someone who wants to purchase this now that i have the bin, so once i head from him i will post it... most likely later on today.
how do i try this bin in an emulator?

im home from florida.
hi kenfused - i can't actually get to another camera but it might not matter now. i have packaged it up and it is going out today to albert. hopefully it will get to him within the next couple of days.
i have asked him, however, to send me the 'dump' and let me post it. which brings me to something i just thought of and am curious about. is this worth any money? if I went the ebay route would people know what it is? being that my father doesn't seem to care (yes a little sarcasm there) maybe i could ge ta little something for it.
thanks!

hi
the reason i chose fraublucha is because i just watched the movie on dvd with my dad last month (he wanted me to see it) and i lol'ed at so many things i cant seem to forget them.
he works a lot of hours now so he doesn't have much time by the time he gets home, which might be why he doesnt seem to care about these games any more

so this means i have something that hasn't been released? nobody really has this?
someone said something about dumping it... how do i do that? im going to florida to visit my mom on friday and i'll be back on monday so if it's something i have to do or buy i can do it then...

hi
ok i took pictures with my phone (sorry for the quality - i really need a new phone)
i also looked on line for a picture of the 2600 version like you guys said, and it led me back here, lol. this definately is not the same version.
so this was never released? how did my father get it then? I asked him, and he says he doesn't remember exactly, but i think he just doesn't want to be bothered.

ok - did a little searching, and found jr pacman. it looks like a 'scrolling' maze is only in this game? the one i have here does this as well, and they look very similar.
i called my dad at work, and he said that he doesn't really remember where he got it, but he used to know someone who worked for a computer company back then.

thanks everyone!
yes, this unit did belong to my dad. he helped me get it connected to another tv we had here, and i was able to scrounge up a sega genesis controller! (thanks Ian!)
I plugged the two carts in, and the one without the sticker was (i think) jinks (never heard of it), and the one with the sticker said jr pacman. was this an arcade game? I've seen mrs pac-man, but i've never heard of this one.
to kenfused: you said that jr pacman was not released for the 5200 (i guess that's a different system)... but could it have come out for this one? are you sure it was this game? i'll ask my father where he bought it from when he gets home from work.
thanks guys! i'm going to look for more games for this system - i actually like it!

thanks!
i will give that a shot
I'm very curois about these two boards i found with the other games...
at first i thought they were just extra parts of something but i looked and the edge looks just like one of the edges of the other games. i guess it's a bare board without the case? and it has a little white sticker that says "jr 87". on top of one of the 'chips'. the other one doesn't have a white sticker... i'd like to at least know which games they are. is there a way to tell by looking at it
i would try it but i've heard that if you plug boards into these old systems backwards you could kill them.
i asked my dad ( he was into electronics) but he doesn't remember...
will it power on without the joysticks?

Hello, new here!
We were cleaning out the attic last weekend, and my dad pulled a box out that had a 7800 and a few games... some of them seem to have no plastic covers on them...
i did a google search for 7800, and it led me here.
there were 6 games, Mrs pacman, joust, robotron, galaga, and two that just look like green boards... not even sure if they really go with this unit.
it looks like there is a plug for it, but I can't find any controllers
does anyone know how to connect them to the video input on the lcd tv i have? i don't get anything but a blue screen when i try it
are any of these worth anything?
does anyone know where to get controllers for this thing?
thanks
Dylan

hello
sorry for the delay but i'm not waiting any longer. never heard again from the person who was going to purchase it. i can't get it to work with any amulator so i am posting it here for you guys to see if you can get it working.
al said something about it needed to be padded so that emulators will see it correctly. i don't know, i cant get it to run.
thanks, everyone
