  1. That cart sounds pretty neat actually. Those pirates never cease to amaze me. Although why'd they choose to pirate a colecovision cartridge is beyond my comprehension. It's kind of funny though.

I'd guess it came from brazil. The sega master system was pretty popular there, and like 27 people actually bought them in north america. Maybe the Colecovision worked the same way to warrant acutally pirating something for it.

  2. I just found my Official Dreamcast Magazine with the best amount of previews, keep in mind this is March 2000, and most of these were rumours anyways but many of the unreleased now...released titles are on here and a couple ended up comming out for xbox aswell:

Agartha (No Cliche designed Resident Evil clone)

    Age of Empires

Arcatera: The Dark Brotherhood (Quarter 2 Release)

    Arena Football

    Border Zone

Cut Away (Aparantly Microsoft had a console developement team...Classified Games and as of 2000 were developing a dreamcast stealth game)

    Baldurs Gate (Late 2000)

    Deadly Pursuit (Fall 2000)

    Flesh and Wire

    Gundam Side Story

Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (Summer 2000)

    Jump Runner

    Knights (Fall 2000)

    Messiah (Q2 2000)

    Omikron

    Planet of the Apes

Prince of Persia 3D (Fall 2000)

    Ready to Rumble Wrestling

    *Stunt GP (March 2000 - http://stuntgp.team17.com/

    Take the Bullet

    Team Fortress

    Tee off Golf (January 2001)

    Toy Fighter

    Undercover 2025 AD

I picked all the ones that that either had a release date or were confirmed. Keep in mind there were about 100 games on this list and the rest either were horrendous rumors (Halo - Referred to as a 3rd Person shooter) or actually released.

I only had time to really research one title: Stunt GP.

Stunt GP actually has box art. It was eventually released on Playstation 2 though it appears, Infogrames canned it the month it was scheduled to be released. It exists somewhere, it just needs to be located. Odd indeed.

  3. R.I.P Oddworld Inhabitants- I really wanted to see yet another innovative Oddworld game  :(  You shall be missed......

"Don't worry Oddworld fans, the company isn't going away. It's just drastically changing the way it operates. As with many innovative minds in the business, Lanning feels that the current model for game development is restrictive. Teams are becoming too big. Technical challenges are stifling creativity. Lanning is going to try doing things a different way so that he and his team can focus on what it does best -- creating characters and stories. "

  4. JJ & Jeff has to be one of the worst game's i've ever played. The instruction manual is quite entertaining though. I'd had it for quite some time but never bothered to play it and finally cracked it out last night, oh man, shittacular, glad I also had devil's crush to take away the pain.

  5. The Forza demo on Mech Assault 2 was rather impressive. With all the assists turned off, it's pretty accurate and realistic. Although I could have done with a track other than Laguna Seca. Pretty looking cars though.

... all those endurance races in GT3... (shudder).

  6. I pre-ordered the original and anxiously awaited the sequel, but until today i'd never heard the rationelle "because Microsoft bought the US rights, cancelling a US DC release" As fuzzy as my memory is, that just doesn't fit well on a timeline. The Dreamcast was on the decline in the US by the end of 2001 (US Playstation 2 launch) - and the Japanese release of Shenmue 2.

From my memory the translation for the original took about a year from Japanese release to American release. Which places Shenmue 2 smack dab in the middle of the xbox launch. By mid 2002 it was apparant there was no way Sega could compete financially.

But I don't agree with this whole mindset that because Microsoft bought the rights, they couldn't release it on Dreamcast. By all means correct me on my timeline here, but since Dreamcast was dying anyways the chances of a Dreamcast US release was slim to nil. Even before the annoucement of Shenmue 2's US cancellation, I had an inkiling I'd probably never hear of the adventures of Ryo and gang ever again. Plus the Playstation controlled market was too fierce to warrant spending precious financial dollars on a game that would make little to no return.

The wording makes Microsoft seem like the bad guy, where in my opinion they gave us the ability to play a game that many Shenmue fans would otherwise never get to play. It was one of the reasons I bought my xbox.
