I want the equivalent of Cynthcart for the Atari 8-bit line of computers, as well as a ton of games and applications that support Dual Pokey, VBXE, Secondary buttons on control pads, Covox, and additional RAM.
-
Cool, can't wait for my VBXE to arrive in the mail.

What's preventing the Atari from having it's own chameleon
Syfo-Dyas replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Very fun to think about indeed! And the funny thing is that I really can't think of a single practical application for this hardware, at least nothing that can be done on it that can't be done on an already existing C64, but I'm going to order one anyhow. Same goes for the 7800 modification that is soon to release. I've no use for it, it really doesn't have a software library that takes advantage of it's features, but something inside me tells me I must own one. I guess deep within my soul I believe that a group of coders will come along, recognize all this awesome retro gear we have within our reach, and begin churning out musick apps and games that put everything we've seen in the past to shame. -
DAMN FAST SHIPPING, I already got it in the mail today. Sadly when I fired it up on my heavily modified C64, I began to turn the Paddle Knob along with one of the custom Knobs on my C64, at which point the screen began to scramble and I smelled something burning in my C64. :/ Guess that's $500 down the drain, and it looks like I'll be using Cynthcart on my stock C64 from now on. But my, what fast shipping!!!! Thankx Atari Age!

So, Atariage, what is your favorite "classic" OS?
Syfo-Dyas replied to BDW's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Easy answer: Amiga OS and BeOS. -
Getting 2nd Button working on NES to Atari PAD hack?
Syfo-Dyas replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Ya, there's a list somewhere on the forum here. And I strongly believe more games should. -
So what I am experiencing is normal?
-
So I purchased Synthcart for my 2600 a while ago. I have not had much time to play with it, but I was kind of perplexed when I first fired it up. I had both of my Numeric Keypads plugged in and all the program seemed to do was put out noiz that neither of my numeric key pads seemed to control much. Also I could not find a way to keep it from making noiz at all so I could use the key pads as a drum machine. Is this normal or am I missing something? I've tested it on two Atari's and I also fired it up without the keypads plugged in but the results were pretty much the same.

Cynthcart upgrade Chris Wonderful, thankx!!!

Hello, I purchased Cynth Cart from here for the C64 from this site a number of years ago. I noticed on Youtube everyone is able to do things I can not do with my version of the cart. As fate would have it, I need to update my EPROM, but do not have a burner. Does anyone here have a burner that might be able to do this for me, or is a burner something I can purchase for cheap and use easily that I might be able to do this on my own?

What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
Syfo-Dyas replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Sega Master System Sports Pad eBay Auction -- Item Number: 360318527323 I do believe this would work with the Atari right? I figured I might also be able to get the second button supported using this guide: http://www.instructables.com/id/Retro-Atari-7800-Mod-Sega-Master-System-controlle/ -
Getting 2nd Button working on NES to Atari PAD hack?
Syfo-Dyas replied to Syfo-Dyas's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well, I assumed this hack also works with the computer as well right? -
Alright, this has been discussed here before, but seeing as the only electronics knowledge I have is how to do very basic soldering jobs, I need a little help. I have a NES pad that I bought off Ebay that has been pre-modded for the Atari, but the 2nd button has not yet been modded to work. I was told that I need 2 x 600 ohm resistors and that I need to follow this guide: (scroll down to Hardware item #10) . http://www.atariage.com/7800/faq/index.html?SystemID=7800#cat2_9 But this makes little sense to me seeing as I'm a novice and all. So does anyone have a picture based tutorial I can follow? Also where do I order 2 600ohm resistors and ensure that I get the correct kind? Thankx!

Digital Joysticks provide better control than Analog Joysticks
Syfo-Dyas replied to atariksi's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Well, I just received my modded NES controller in the mail and fired up one of the hardest Atari titles I have in my collection, that being an elusive titled called SHIT! Mind you, there are two games called SHIT! One appears to be a puzzle game and the other is the one I play, where you are a little turd or worm or something that must navigate its way through an anus or cave or something... I used to love playing this with my Atari Joy stick mini (see photo), but with the NES pad, I find that I have MUCH MUCH MUCH better control over my little turd and have been able to play deeper into the game than ever before, so now I must officially change my vote., sad but true. -
I also saw someone porting over Super Mario Bros., but I don't believe it was ever intended to be finished as it was more of a proof of concept. To have that completed (but perhaps with alternative stages) would be the cat's meow! Not to downplay the significance of this clone... ...this is just BAD ASS all the way!
-
I need to get back and play this some more. I recall liking it a lot and thinking,"this should have placed somewhere much higher than last in the competition.". Right off the bat, I think that the Jumping could use a bit of tweaking, but like I said, I'll have to play some more to give it a more in depth critique.

You are referring to the free shareware release which was all the levels of the first episode. Jagdoom has many of the levels found in the first 3 episodes that were in the original release of Doom (pre-Ultimate Doom). It also has levels that were not on the PC. Jagdoom is only a couple of levels short of the number that were in Doom1. Granted, some of them had to have chunks of the levels edited out. Still, it is not nearly as short as shareware Doom. Hmm, I only remember there being 8 levels in the Jag version, but that was forever ago so my memory sucks.

Kjmann's Atari Sales Atari-Sales.com
Syfo-Dyas replied to SegaShooters's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I personally prefer my SDrive Nuxx to my AtariMax Cart, though the cart is still quite cool and gets a decent amount of use from me, especially when I bring my Atari to my friend's houses for parties or what have you. -
Considering the sound features and the addition of an SIO port that's going to be added to the 7800 with the upcoming XM expansion, I'm really hoping someone comes along to do a sort of MSSIA for the 7800. The SIO could be used to interface with a MIDI controller, and you can have keyboard and or mouse so... ...here's to hoping.
-
Just browsing real quick so I dunno if this has been covered, but we'd need an identifier for SIO as well as a way to tell if it is using Pokey or the Arcade Sound chip or both.
-
Well at least we got Alien's vs Predator.

Shadowgate-like game possible on A8, using text commands?
Syfo-Dyas replied to BoatofCar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Yes, there are polish games in vein of this, but... ...they are not in English. :/ As fate would have it, some of them are point and click like Shadowgate and the Uninvited. -
They left us with the 7800, which now has a new expansion that basically converts it into a new computer, or will at least in December. So if anything, I'm grateful for that. I just only wish the Jag hadn't been so rushed. As for the 8-bit, well a lot of unreleased stuff used to anger me, but with all the hardware expansions this community has been coming up with, I believe things have moved way past anything Atari would have seriously attempted to market. It's the present Atari that I really dislike above all previous owners, though recently they did release Haunted House, and allow for the 7800 expansion to be built so maybe they are taking Nintendo's cue and going retro, now for them to higher developers who feel the vibe...
