What's the latest Atari related thing(s) you've bought on ebay?
Syfo-Dyas replied to Ross PK's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Atari Joystick MOD - NES Controller for Atari 2600/7800 Sadly I didn't realize it only supports one button till after I made my payment. Those old 7800 pads are impossible to find. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 290470487034 And a dead 600xl to learn to refurbish on. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 280560487308 -
I didn't realize the Atari version had more than the C64 and 2600 one. I wonder if the Arcade version was any different than the home ports?

I suppose if I was a regular to this section of the forum, I would have realized that this had recently been discussed.

One game I don't really hear many people talking about is Pitfall II. I always hear about Pitfall I, but never II. As far as I was concerned Pitfall II was the cat's meow. Sizing up to or even perhaps surpassing Montezuma's Revenge and Bruce Lee in replay value and quality. Unlike the first game, part II actually had an end goal, and a series of vertical and horizontal paths you had to trek in order to reach it. Your character would not only collect Gold for points, but would also make use of items such as the Balloon to reach higher places. My only complaint is that they did not make another sequel for the Atari before moving onto the Nintendo Classic, which as far as I'm concerned marks the end of the series, as the rest of the sequels, while fun, do not feel at all the same as the old Atari classics. So now I'm wondering if the Atari has any other Metroid/Castlevania type games of this nature? Ones that play out more like an item collecting adventure in a large world, rather than a game based upon levels and a point system?

DOOM on the 3DO was in fact the worst "official" port ever written. Just stand still and spin in circles to see what I mean. The Sega 32X port stripped down the sprites to make the game run smooth. Ever notice how the enemies always seem to be facing you? Also, not all the levels are exactly as they were on the Computer versions. They made a few changes to deal with the RAM limitation of consoles. DOOM64 of course is an entirely new incarnation of DOOM with a slew of new features that I could not even begin to list. DOOM on the XBOX was included DOOM III as extra content, though there are three homebrew ports available as well. The port packed in DOOM III is the first port of DOOM to a console that featured the original PC levels. I believe the iPod port also features the original PC levels, though they added a new chapter to DOOM II!!! On the PC, you can now edit levels with the greatest of Ease using DOOM Builder 2: http://www.doombuilder.com/ And there are a ton of amazing source ports which do anything from simply correct the bugs in the original source and improve upon the networking code on up to adding 3D models, floors, advanced scripting, lighting, hi-res textures, etc. etc. etc. I.E. DOOM 64 Abosolution and it's expansion packs: http://www.doom2.net/~doomdepot/abs-about.html Or just keep an eye on these sites: http://www.doomworld.com http://grafzahl.drdteam.org/ http://prboom.sourceforge.net/ http://odamex.net/ and so on... http://www.doomworld.com/classicdoom/ports/ I personally prefer PrBOOM (which has been ported to a number of consoles) and GzDOOM (very very advanced engine combining elements from DOOM Legacy into ZDOOM and Skull Tag.

Hmmm, a friend of mine has been trying to sell me an old 800. I didn't want it before as I had no practical use, but now I'm starting to re-consider.

If you're just building a s-video mod, may be cheaper to get one from KJMan (if still available). This is the one I got from him and fitted into the RF box in a 600XL; I re-used the RCA jack for composite video out. I've considered this for my other 600Xl (assuming I can get it repaired). If this mod does not pan out though, I may be considering it for this 600xl well. -
3 TIP animator scenes and the music is getting played by the Covox extension. Thus not really an A8 demo. Anyhow interresting to see, just like "what if...." You could expect music like the played tune straight from POKEY, after someone would care about a fully working POKEY-synthesizing Tracker. Not in this life it seems No doubt, I'd about die for a musick program for the Atari that attempts to do what is going on in the C64 musick scene programs, especially one with Covox, Stereo, and MIDI support.

My Title? I've heard of the pink dots (I grew up in England)... Music is okay I could have just seen them here in Ohio, but missed the show. :/ Anyhow, yes, they have a song about Orpheus and I think Orpheus Rising was the title, but I'm not sure, been a while.

Looks interesting, can't way to give it a go with a friend, or a hooker I have to rent to play with me, either way, I'm on it.

I think I'd like to return to coding for the Atari 8-bit, or rather take my knowledge beyond the very basics. I of course have Stereo Sound, IDE, a VBXE very soon, Extra RAM, an SDrive Nuxx, Covox, etc. So I'd like to be able to write code with these in mind. My only experience is with a little Fraggle Script and ACS for DOOM Legacy and ZDOOM on windows, which are scripting languages that I've been told are a lot like C. Also I used to write in Basic and Turbo Basic for the Atari in the early 80's and 90's but never got very good with it. So now I ask, what language would be best suited for a person such as I? Where do I get it, and is there a lot of documentation? I'd like to eventually be able to code both games and apps. I'm thinking something along the lines of Zelda perhaps. Would Turbo Basic would for something of that pace, but with a more turn based combat system? What was the last version of Turbo basic?

Can I use an emulator to host a telnet BBS?

Interesting idea. I never really cared to get my Atari on-line before, but now I'm starting to get interested big time. -

I wonder what people with no hands prefer to use? -
Speaking of which, assuming you have the American DOOM64 rom file, you can extract the WAD file from it with the tools that come with this DOOM64 EX and play it windows with the supplied executable. This is not an emulator. Project page. http://doom64ex.sourceforge.net/ Up to Date SVN builds. http://gccdoom64ex.codeplex.com/

Crap, it was never released. :/ Well I did find this, even comes with software, though I've not built one yet: http://www.atarimagazines.com/v4n11/LieDetector.html Sadly I'm not wanting a lie detector, I'm wanting something to measure responses to various forms of stimuli and to monitor and hopefully record brain waves during sleep.

Considering that the Jag is long dead, I figure it's safe to ask... ...was there ever a rom dump of Towers II?
