  1. Sorry, completely missed this post because of work pressure. I'm using the latest cc65 version from their website. Thanks for the schematics, once I have the sound working properly I'll have to study some notes
  2. Wow 8mbs.. that must be the biggest game on the Lynx right. To think I'm stuffing everything in 256kb :s
  3. Thanks for the nice comments. They're really encouraging I can tell. Got all parts covered, even a story! All I can say is that we won't be saving any princess this time The sounds/music are the last real issue down the road still
  4. Wow, this topic really turned into a historical goldmine!
  5. They're all in-game screenshots
  6. I was referring to Stardreamer indeed. Couldn't remember the name anymore... I think the project page is down as well. Really hope that game will be finished; it has so much potential. I always wondered how 3D is done on the Lynx... I guess C would be too slow to accomplish that. In any case, I think there'll be at least 2 games coming in 2012. There was something about an International Karate+ clone.. and I'm working hard on my own project.
  7. I'm curious after the Elite clone for the Lynx. Wasn't there a demo to play of this somewhere?
  8. Thanks for offering the help. At the moment I'm getting direct support from some lynx wizards already so that should be no problem. On a side note... yesterday my dev pc stopped working... looks like something burned on the motherboard... this is very unfortunate as it could slow down some development. This project is safe (thank god!), but some others need to be recovered. Have to continue working on my old laptop for the moment
  9. No worries, I know when I read a joke But it really was on my mind when I was posting it. Good news is that I didn't buy Skyrim, nor am planning to in the next month(s). So that can't suck up my time
  10. Yeah sorry for that, I thought posting here would give more expectations than I intended. But no worries, I have things figured out. I'm planning to release a demo first and after that will get to the real meat. Its a huge amount of work and as you noticed the whole graduation got delayed quite a bit. It was a hell of a ride so to say, but managed in the end. Thanks! I still have one final defending to do 2 weeks from now, but that should be easy. The only thing I'm struggling with at the moment is the inclusion of sounds/music... hope to have that figured out soon
  11. Believe it or not, but the project is still in progress. Finally delivered my thesis today
  12. hehe yeah that was a redundant question. I'm gonna experiment with those sources
  13. Only a resource hungry modplayer. And a simple effect player. For sound player you have to stick to assembler. I guess thats worth checking out. Could you maybe link me to them? My assembly skills are really poor, thats why I try to get around it.. Thanks!
  14. It seems to be a problem with the abcmusic version I'm using. Its written in assembly so I have no idea how to work around this. Karri replied to me he might have a C version that could work in my project, but looks like he's a bit busy lately since I haven't heard from him since then. When its figured out I'll post a small working project with music integrated. Hopefully soon, because I think I have something interesting to show the people on here once I have some sounds integrated In the main time I can only ask: does someone have some sound library that would work with the latest cc65 compiler? Thanks!
  15. Great to see old developers hanging out on this forum! I'm really enjoying reading this topic. Back in the days when I first got my Lynx it was magic to me. Never could've imagined that ~15 years later I'd share forums with those very devs! It's funny how the advanced graphics of the lynx couldn't excite people back then, while nowadays its all about them.
  16. I've managed to generate some noise when calling the abc_update function in the VBL routine. However, after initializing VBL other things like the joystick aren't working anymore... I use install_irq(2, (int)&vbl) to setup the VBL counter which calls abc_update, but I'm also using tgi_install(&lynxtgi) and joy_install(&lynxjoy) to setup the screen and joypad. I read that lynxtgi sets up VBL and other interrupt handlers automatically, but I can't seem to have this working for a regular call to abc_update. Could it be that VBL is interfering other interrupters? void start_irqs(void) { init_irq(); install_irq(2, (int)&vbl); enable_irq(2); tgi_install(&lynxtgi); // This will activate the Lynx screen joy_install(&lynxjoy); // This will activate the Lynx joypad tgi_init(); CLI(); tgi_clear(); tgi_setpalette(pal); }
  17. Hi matashen, thanks for the reply! Gives me a better understanding of the notation of the music. I've tried quite some things here using your description of setting up the instrument, volume, etc. but still I don't get any noise.. I read in another topic I need to set up some interruptors, but I thought these are setup by initializing lynxtgi (even though its a graphic driver)
  18. This game is so good. I still wonder if there was any pg rating for it since you're chasing crack junkies and hookers. I got really far in the game, but things get really annoying managing gas/time.. wish they had some continue function like in the arcade. Pity I don't have any time lately to play any game...
  19. I've been following the topics on here for better sound effects on the Lynx, and I gotta admit, some great sounds can be generated using those tools! However, I haven't been able to integrate any of it in my project.. as a matter of fact, I haven't been able to create any kind of sound out of the machine. Its been on low priority for a long while. So I've been using the sketch template. With it comes abcmusic, which uses a simple notation for generating some tunes. I can't seem to get it to work though... I got something as follows int intro(void) { tgi_install(&lynxtgi); tgi_init(); CLI(); silence(); abcmusic(1,":A2GEcde>dcABGAGE/F/GA2GEcde>dcABGA3z::eae>deae>dcdefgf/g/ageae>deae>dcABGA3z:"); // channel and tune while(1) { /* some other stuff here*/ abc_update(); } } Apart from me not being able to make it work, I assume I cannot get those crazy cool sound effects that I heard from other tools with abcmusic?
  20. Ha, what a fraud. It really surprises me what people try to get a few cents out of the Lynx. The worst so far would be that guy selling the Ladybug demo on eBay.. but maybe this one tries to top that by selling 220 games... wonder which 220 that would be. Probably scraped every binary off this forum. This couldn't be legal in any way... the boot image isn't legal to start with and it looks like he hands it out as well. Not to start about the 220 games of which he owns no license (like Alien Vs. Predator)
  21. haha some gold in this topic here. Too bad I can't say I have that crazy confessions about gaming.. plenty others that are off topic.. here's my 2 cents - as a really small kid I stared at the demos from arcade cabinets imagining I was playing them - back in high school I placed images of the bullies on top of Unreal Tournament skins to be able to shoot them to pieces. Was a great tool to channel my hate for them - I, among 1000s of gamers, considered the square boobs and ass of Lara Croft "hot" back in the days.. really whats up with that. Its like if my eyes interpolated everything to make me think they were round
  22. Looks like a fine deal to me as long as you keep under 40 pounds, since thats about the price you have around here. I believe its more cheap in the USA, judging from other topics. A boxed Ninja Gaiden is definitely nice to have
  23. Thanks guys, some great suggestions here! I could add Crusader of Centy for the Sega Genesis to the list as well
  24. As always I can't get enough of them. I know some of you really get put off by jrpgs in general, I bumped into this fan translation game of Bahamut Lagoon for the SNES. I'm enjoying it a lot as it mixes some great gameplay styles together. I know about Seiken Densetsu 3, but I was wondering what others I'm overlooking.
  25. I am playing it once a while, but currently I'm too occupied with graduating. Can only repeat though, this game is awesome!!! My party consists of a male warrior, an elf ranger, a gnome cleric and an half-elf mage. So to deal with the ration/food problem, its suggested to have a cleric in your party. When it reaches a certain level, you can pray for food, and the whole ration thing won't be a problem anymore. There's really no need to cheat when you have a cleric around. The only thing should be taken into account is when you encounter the poisonous spiders around floor 5. Try to kill them at distance at all costs, and whenever you are in melee combat with them, be sure to check out if someone got poisoned. If so, reload the game. If not, save game. The poison can be cured, but there's only a few of those potions to be found, and a bit too much stress to get them anyway. It's also handy to have a gnome in your party, because they can read certain hints throughout the dungeons which nobody else can read. There's more hints I could give, but I think its more fun to find them out for yourself the hard way Hope this helps!
