  1. My gut feeling tells me that there's no big consumer market for expensive hardware that needs to be strapped to the face to stare at small screens to create a nauseating feeling of immersion if used longer than 30 minutes. I can see it work in the entertainment business though. We have a VR Arcade in our city that allows you to run freely in a big space shooting zombies/aliens and its great! They map the digital space to match the building such that you don't run into a wall or pillar. The matches are 15 minutes each and after 2 sessions I feel mentally exhausted. I think they deliver the best VR experience one could wish for, but their setup is huge and the gameplay is rather limited to run and shoot in a local network. Any kind of delay feels like a huge impact on the brain so I can't see this ever work in an online environment, let alone the fact that you'll need one of those treadmills that allow you to run in arbitrary directions if you want to have this kind of experience at home.
  2. I still fondly remember those glorious days that I walked into the local army surplus store and bought a stack of floppy disk games that I couldn't get anywhere else. This was around 1994. Toystores were only selling console games and PC stores were not really around yet. Got some real oddities from that store like Moraff's Dungeon and Ancients 1: Death Watch (ugh..), but luckily also Wolfenstein 3D and BioMenace
  3. Thanks! Some cool suggestions that I haven't heard of before
  4. Got a little better though still don't know what I'm doing 😅 So my final scores for this first round are Robotron: 74975 Microvaders: 25425
  5. I surprised myself. Those last two waves are really difficult, had to make sure to take out a good amount before they settle, making sure there's a safe corner. Will the full game have a save feature? Rage quitting Robotron for now, I don't get how to play this game. Feels like a lot depends on the initial setup of the wave, there's barely any space to move around at the 4th wave. I'll try again tomorrow 😅
  6. Playing it on Argon. Really fun puzzle game! I love the restart animation. One thing that comes to mind.. I haven't played the original, so I'm not sure if this is done, but are you thinking to animate the character? I think it has a great potential for a simple two frame looped walking animation
  7. Tricky game but I'll give it a few more rounds! Edit: much better score while on the train
  8. Played the original DOS version countless times, moved on to gzdoom/mods a long time ago. The Jaguar version is definitely not my favorite port, but its an important landmark in console gaming as it has served as a template for all the other ports, so gotta see what the fuzz is about and I enjoy to see how they worked around the limitations of the console. Gotta see that binary space partitioning running its full glory, right? I would also play this if I had it:
  9. As a new owner of the Jaguar and recently Doom CIB, I do find it a great port. It has an interesting history to it as it was the only port of Doom that John Carmack directly worked on iirc and it has been a template for all the other ports. I personally don't miss the music much, though I do find the lack of the Cyberdemon a bit of an anticlimax. I've only played Doom on the PC before, and it definitely feels like Doom on Jaguar needs more careful planning when playing it, which is great because now I'm spending a ton of time with one of my favorite shooters of all time.
  10. Finished BoxBoy on the 3DS! Immediately started BoxBoxBoy, haven't been this addicted to a puzzle game in a while
  11. Went over the free to play downloads from the eShop, not sure what level of entertainment it can provide but got them nonetheless since its for free: Pokemon Rumble World Pokemon Shuffle Pokemon Picross Team Kirby Clash Deluxe And then there is RPG Maker Fes Player, quite an interesting project. Basically downloading user-created content, you can get up to 16 projects. I just had a quick look online and downloaded some "best of" projects according to some forum users/websites: - Moon Swept - Relic Hunters - Earth's Final Hour DX - Apartment 412 - A Dragon's Tale - Legends of Lunaria - Unnatural Selection - Meme Royale 4 (the only one I booted up so far and it gave me a chuckle, its quite ridiculous)
  12. To be fair, my $3000 desktop will outperform pretty much anything PS4 and probably the PS5, but since its for work I will not pollute it with games and their silly requirements. And this is the one thing that makes me wonder why PC gamers are so quick to say consoles are crap. I can buy a cluster of PS4s including screens to match my one PC, so by those numbers the PS4 MUST be more fun to play with. I have no time to fix games to work at a proper fps/resolution, right now I even prefer the Switch over the PS4 because of how quick I can start playing a game. Now that I'm dealing with carpal tunnel I can honestly say I'm happy to hold a controller over mouse/keyboard any day. I stopped playing shooters and RTS games a long time ago so I guess I'm not missing out much in terms of accurate aiming and timing.
  13. Will give it a shot again, I tend to get distracted though. Great games to start the competition with!
  14. The PS4 made me appreciate modern gaming after being a PC gamer for almost two decades. Just the fact that you can pop in a disc and have awesome graphics, fluid gameplay, without the need of updating hardware and drivers made me appreciate it a lot, especially the pro version. I know this base vs pro as well as the whole exclusive content is a debate of bad business practice, but that didn't stop me from having tons of fun with the system. Bloodborne being one of my favorite games of all time.. has it been 10 years already? Oh, don't you worry. Whatever happens...you may think it all a mere bad dream.
  15. You know we all want to see this release happen in 2023 I can honestly say this is the most fun multiplayer on the Lynx platform, and I played my share of comlynx
  16. Less than 2 months left before closing time, no hurries with the list I just realized that unless I hack the 3DS there's no way to do any backups.. that does suck bigtime.. so there's no possibility whatsoever after the eShop closes and the 3DS breaks down to get your purchases. Bye bye exclusives..
  17. Mario & Donkey Kong Minis On The Move is another 3DS eShop exclusive
  18. Attack of the Friday Monsters is definitely a peculiarity that I'm happy to have found because of Nintendo announcing the closure of the eShop. I'm also amazed how I've been sleeping on Boxboy until now.. this is the kind of stuff that should be preserved
  19. Just realized that there's the Korg M01D and Korg DSN-12 applications, they are niche and quite expensive if not bought from the eShop
  20. I guess repro boxes are out of the question? Since I have very limited space in my house for my hobbies I don't bother with Lynx games, but I collect my Game&Watch games and get repro boxes/manuals. Its crazy to find a decent box from the early 80s, though I do have a few.
  21. Haha geez I'm typing with my left hand lately to deal with carpal tunnel, I butchered those. There's also game gear games on virtual console that are not on the switch I believe I have the Fates special edition and pretty much all other Fire Emblem games for the 3DS. Was quick to act when it got released luckily
