  1. OK, I've seen a small amount of interest in this idea. I have made these for myself and they work great, however there are draw backs.

#1 Atari joystick control is digital, not analog, so you cannot control the intensity of the vibration, just vibrate on/off. So it's really only good for things like combat when you get hit, as opposed to walking vibrations or similar.

#2 With the exception of my upcoming homebrew game, no game has support for this. I have modified a few games to support it, however to play them with the controllers you would need a way to get it to the actual console. (It will not work emulated, via an Atari to PC Joystick hack) So a supercharger or Cuttle Cart would be necessary.

#3 Atari Joysticks are hard to come by for me, so I could sell a "mod" to your existing joysticks.. IE: You send me your joystick, I vibrate mod it and send it back.... Or the price of a vibrating joystick is going to be more then most would probably be willing to spend for an unsupported feature.

However if you are still interested in them, let me know via PM or this thread and I'll put a few together for you, and research what a price might be.

  2. Atari doesn't exist anymore :-) Infogrames does not hold the hardware rights to the name.

It's probably just an XBox with an Atari logo on it lol, M$oft probably bought the hardware rights to the name so old video game junkies would buy in... I wouldn't put it past them.

I remember once I had a joke article from TheOnion.com that said MicroSoft patents 1 and 0's making all digital software their property, and I passed it around the office... Everyone thought it was true! I had to explain to everyone it was a joke... Sorry this funny MS story just hit me when I was typing the reply... :-)

  3. I could easily set up a vibrating mech in Atari Joysticks.. and easily program popular games to make it vibrate at the right moment... I acutally built a set here and modded Combat for my own use...

I didn't think anyone else would be interested :-) So I kept it to myself.

  4. NEWS FLASH:

Luisville poilice medical examiner ordered, the now infamous, Sky Jinks cartridge exumed Wednesday Evening. In a statement given to the press the examiner stated "I understand the ethical implications of bringing back the body after the funeral, however new forensics evidence on the mystery label glue has led to a possible suspect. A final examination by the FBI crime lab will let us know for sure."

StanJr was ordered at his nearest possible convienience to exume the cartridge from it's burial plot, and ship it to Cupcakus of the "FBI" crime lab in San Jose, CA were it will be torn apart and examined...

FBI Crime Lab officials stated, they would do "whatever it takes" to get this cartridge from StanJr and figure out it's innards... "perhaps we will clone it to another working cartridge... or a sheep, we just can't be sure until we see it." The offical also stated that once the cart is fixed, they will arrest the suspect responsible for its destruction.

In a phone conversation with the Today show, Cupcakus asked all owners of other confirmed dead cartridges to send them to him for investigation. "This may be a cereal cartridge killer... May be Usama Bin Cherrios... Or the Luisville count chocula himself... but I can't be sure until I have your carts! Send them as soon as possible"

Only time will tell who the real killer is, but the FBI seems determined.

OH YEAH..... I'm WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY TOOOOOO Bored :-)

  5. Open your VCS and look at the capacitor attached to the power lead... It looks like it could power new york city...

It's like a stick of dynamite :-).... well OK it's not that big I guess.

  6. PSX doesn't have ROMs, it has CD-Roms :-) You can only download roms from cartridge consoles, because the game data is stored in a Rom chip!... silly people.

If you want to download PSX games, you have to search for ISO's which are basically CD-Rom images that have been ripped from a CD. You just place a blank CD in your burner and tell it to burn the ISO, and Walla, you have a copy of that game. If you mod chipped your PSX you can play it directly there, or you can use it on an emulator like Bleem!.

My Space Shuttle was bought new in box also(back in the hayday), and did not come with any overlays. I actually didn't know there was any until I stumbled across them on this site. My Space Shuttle is the generic blue label that came out later, I believe. My game also came with plain old text instructions, b&w and boring. This is the same case with my Enduro, and River Raid, that were purchased at the same time. All three have the blue label, and cheapo instructions. Maybe this version didn't come with the overlays? Activision ran out, and didn't feel like producing them anymore? Who knows? I will say though, that pre-overlay I couldn't figure out the game for the life of me, but post-overlay I can actually play the game, and it rules.

That's exactly what I have... no overlays and a B&W manual, with Activision blue label. Memorizing the console switches was easy, but I always had to use the manual for the de-orbit burn procedure, so now my manual is all mangled from me using it so much. I would have killed for overlays...

Oh well, I have it all memorized now, I'm a walking overlay.
