  1. There is a pringles advert on TV in the UK at the moment that clearly shows a cat playing Space Invaders on an Atari 2600.

    nope it's a dog :)

Really? I thought it was odd that a cat was at a dogs party... i just saw a big white ball of fluff :)

  2. I paid for Mental Kombat by posting euros to Germany via registered post.  I guess you could do the same, convert to Dollars and post like that, check with post office as some contries impose limits on the value of cash that they allow through.  Didn't cost me too much more to send it that way.

Actually... I was thinking. I paid my friend for some webspace on his personal box via internet banking. He just gave me his sort code and account number. I wonder if you can do that with international accounts?

  3. Cool! Just wish I had a credit card so I could sign up to paypal... Whats the best way to send cash to America from the UK? And does he ship a PAL version for us europeans? I can play the NTSC one (my TV supports PAL60), but i'd rather have a proper PAL so I could play it on my TV card in my Amiga as well (which supports proper NTSC or PAL, but not PAL60... )

  4. I don't believe PAL Asteroids was ever released on cart.

Which is a shame because I can't play it when the DevOS ROM is installed on my machine... I wonder if it would be difficult to hack the code out of the BIOS? Presumably the Asteroids BIOS version maps to a different address range as a cart (and thus would need relocating)? or is there hardware trickery that makes it appear in normal cart space?

  5. Again, I can't do this in Z26 but it's worth a try on the real console. I'll have to open my joystick to try it though.

I'm not really sure its worth wasting effort on this "problem". For starters, in order to achieve it you have to open up your joystick and short the contacts, and it doesn't exactly help you win the game; you end up right back at the start!

  6. I know it has been explained before, but a few more details on a car boot show. I gather that people sell "goods" out of their trunk (isn't the hood of a car in England called a bonnet -- I love that, but I digress . . .).

Kind of. Some guy hires (or already owns I guess :) a field and loads of people turn up with their cars full of old crap that they don't want. They then park up, open the boot (trunk), set up some tables and put all their stuff out for people to buy.

And yes, the correct name for the "hood" of a car is the bonnet :D

My question is do they pay to enter the place and have a space like flea market vendors do here and are there official places that will have such a sale every week or is it just random like a yard sale here.

Depends on the individual sale. Some are free, some you have to pay for a place, some are regular, some are random.

They sound great -- I want to see one  :P

Come to the UK then :-) All our eccentricities are great, with the possible exception football hooliganism :D

  7. SS: I thik they HAVE to include one controller otherwise they are selling a product that canot be used.  I think under law you have to sell things that can be used without the purchaser having to buy additional perephierals.  (Think this is why CD-writers et al come with versions of Nero ETC.

But surely you can't use a console without software, and they sell those!

  8. Perhaps you are not fully aware of the methodology employed to take the screenshots, there is a detailed discussion on that in an earlier post by some of the more technological of you legitimizing it.

No. Listen. In the screenshots the sword on the title screen is TWICE horizontal resolution that is possible on the Atari 2600, period.

  9. Yeah, I doubt anyone is going to bid on the cartridge given it's unclear history.  That's why I've just lumped it into a sale of my other carts and console.

But its physically impossible to make an Atari cartridge that generates the "screenshots" you attribute to your Airworld fake.

Something tells me whatever cartridge you ship claiming it to be that Airworld proto will be conveniently DOA...

  10. allwe need now is a smily icon that jitters like the  one and call it coffee, or maybe schizo

Yes! We need a caffeine-high smiley that does that! :) Amiga.org also has a really cool "rolls on the floor laughing" one... and here it is:

  11. Lumpbucket: So you mean I should stop using photographic paper as wall paper then? :)

Yeah, its probably not a good idea :)

Could also be cause by having the brightness way up on the projector, you can tell this when you turn it on and anything directly infront of it melts or combusts, also if you need sun block and shades to watch TV on it :)

Oh man how cool would that be? Your own death ray! :D

  12. Its colour, honour, and armour. Aluminium is pronounced how it is spelt (not aloominum), and chips aren't crispy! :D

Anyway... back on topic... ummm... forget big TVs, get a projector. If you get an image burnt into your wall (which won't happen unless you have some very odd wallpaper :) ), point the projector at a different one!

  13. PLEASE DON'T FLAME :)

I HATE cross posting, but I REALLY want to see how many people would support the idea of having an X-Arcade adapter for the 7800 at a price equal to their other adapters (est. $29-$39)

Presumably its a USB controller, so an adaptor couldn't just passively convert signals to the Atari, it would have to be a "smart" adaptor, which would probably cost quite a bit...

  14. The infamous JuniesCreations.com was selling a product for PCAE that allowed you to use all Atari controllers on the PC.  I ordered and paid for one.  Never received it though!   It might be a great product.

Well, Individual Computers have a proven record within the C64 and Amiga markets for delivering the goods, so its pretty safe to order one. If you want to buy from the states, I think Software Hut sometimes carry their products, so give them an email and ask if they intend to carry this..

  15. LOL at Krytol's avatar! never saw it before but "oh how apt"!

I've seen all these references to MST3K, and I've figured out that A) that means "Mystery Science Theatre", and B) Those silhouettes are something to do with it. Could someone help out an english guy who is a bit lost tell me what MST is? Why the silhouettes in front of Pacman are apt? I feel left out here :D

  16. The fake Airworld site is back up, with updates (but no ROM or video files ;) )

You've got to love the way he links to a thread that points out how the screenshots could not possibly have come from an Atari 2600 (or even directly from an emulator).

I also love this guys attempts to sound like he knows what he is talking about! "Yeah, we are using an ATI TV Wonder with Linux and all the latest OpenGL patches, and gold connectors to remove all static". :lolblue:  Yeah... no doubt he also lubed the grubnuts to ensure lateral zoidberg relativity, installed the latest version of Microsoft Word using Crossover Office, wore a hat with a propellor and called his dog "Dave". All well known tricks to get impossibly perfect captures.
