  1. I have just found a keyboard for the 2600 - can anybody please tell me anything about this, I have never seen one before this!

    Thanks in advance

    Sara

Is it a Spectravideo one? If so theres some information here:

    http://209.122.187.156:8082/videogames/compumat.html

It was only made in limited quantities, and AFAIK its quite a collectable item!

If, on the other hand, you have a prototype Graduate, then you are very lucky and its worth a fortune :)

    Details here:

  2. This product:

    http://www.jschoenfeld.de/products/cwmk3_e.htm

Is designed to fit in any computer with PCI slots (or Amigas with Zorro slots or a clock port, but thats not really relevant to AtariAge, I guess :) ). Its main purpose is to allow you to read disk formats that normal PC floppy controllers cannot (such as Amiga, or custom formats), but it also has 2 Amiga joystick ports. Now, these ports are identical to Atari ports, allowing you to easily attach Atari joysticks to your PC. It would be great if the Atari emulators were updated to support the card!

  3. I tried sending you the file LB, but it claimed to be "too large".  So I edited out an excerpt and sent it, and it claimed to be "too large".  I've tried again with another server (the excerpt) - hopefully that'll work.

Weird. Was that some kind of webmail? I know my mailbox allows receiving large attachments...

  4. Its 16384bytes in size as opposed to the NTSC BIOS which is 4096bytes so there must be something in there.

My BIOS is on a 27C128 chip, so 16k is the right size for the PAL BIOS.

I don't know how you'd 'run' it in MESS to start up the built in Asteroids?

Presumably the 7800 emulation would have to be written to allow it... i don't know... i've not used MESS all that much...

  5. from what i've been told there are no 7800 pal dumps yet, this is because 7800 pal emulation has only just been introduced to mess and so there's been no need for pal dumps until now. it's just a matter of time before pal dumps are released. mitch will be able to answer this question better

Ahh cool... well I have a bunch of PAL 7800 carts and the means to dump them if anyones interested... (Ballblazer, Dig Dug, Motorpsycho, Fatal Run, Xenophobe, Mean 18, Basketbrawl and Fight Night).

I can also dump an image of the PAL BIOS with Asteroids on it... (not sure why anyone would want that though... although it would be nice to be able to remove Asteroids from it so that it can be played on a DevOS equipped PAL console...)

  6. Now that i've got a console with a DevOS ROM, and a 144K RAM cart is on its way to me, I'd like to play some of the Atari 7800 games I don't have on cartridge yet, but AtariAge only seems to have NTSC versions of games which is not much use on a PAL console.

Is this to save server space, or is it because PAL dumps arent available? If its the former, where can I download PAL versions, and if its the latter, I'm more than willing to dump my PAL carts for the site...

  7. I can help you out.  I only have, well, um, over 250 Combat carts.  If you'll cover the postage ($1.00), I'll send it to you for free.  Drop me a private message.

Thats pretty mad. In fact, the only madder thing collected by a retro-computing enthusiast is my Commodore-mad friend who bought 200 CDTV eject buttons in an ebay auction, just because they were made by Commodore :o

  8. I believe that Q-Link was what became AOL.  I've heard that several times, but I wonder if someone can confirm it?

I actually had Q-Link service for a month on my C64.  It had a lot of similarities to Gameline and AOL.

There was also Playcable for the Intellivision that used the cable TV network. In fact, two people figured out how to download stuff to it from their computer and wrote a game. They were hired by Mattel, mostly to stop them telling anyone else how to do it :D

  9. The title track to the infamous Yars' Revenge LP is now available for download via WinMX.  I tried attaching it, but it doesn't accept mp3s.  I'd post a link, but I have no server, so you'll have to download it.

Email it to [email protected] and i'll chuck it on my webspace for people to download who don't have WinMX.

  10. Considering that someone managed to put an entire Atari 2600 on a single chip, it's no to far fetched that someone would be able to develop a Pokey clone.

Why just clone a POKEY? Why not whack 4 DACs on there and have 4 channel sampled sound? Or a SID? or a YM chip? Surely any chip that makes a sound and can be interfaced to a 6502 would do?

  11. This is probably why the PS2 is currently the best selling model of the 3. The larger selection of games. Also the compatiability with the earlier PS helped out although I hate the fact that you can't save PS games with the PS2 due to the different memory cards that it uses. Games like the Tomb Raider series are practically useless on a PS2.

It didn't occur to you to try sticking a PS1 memory card in? It works fine, I have my Star Trek: Invasion games saved from when I was playing it on my sisters PS2.

  12. But the Jaguar!!!!!!!?

And if it was it would be

    2600 + 7800 = 10400

2600 being the base number for the mentioned thred :P

    Still a stupid name. :(

Well, you want to keep it to four digits ideally, so you can't add as much as 2600. Now, its pretty obvious that any console wouldn't have as much impact now as the 2600 did in the late 70s, so, you only need to add half a 2600 to get the new name... so...

    7800 + (2600/2) = 9100

    The Atari 9100!

  13. Okay, in my previous post ( [url http://www.atariage.com/forums/viewtopic.p...hp?t=15069[/url ), there's a link for Atari (and other console) commercials. Well, I've got all those on my computer, now 'm looking for some more. Does anyone have a good site where I could get some old 2600 commercials for my PC? I've got a fever, and the only prescription is more cowbell, er, uh, Atari commercials!

I know you were looking for Atari ones, and this is somewhat off-topic, but theres a whole bunch of Commodore commercials at the Commodore Billboard, and some of them are hilariously bad :-D

  14. cheap? yeah but it doesn't work!

7800 boxed with 2 joy pads, tv lead ,several cartridges and psu (psu works but the plug that goes into the atari is damaged)

that includes postage by the way within the uk.

Uhuh. I got a fully working 7800 with 9 games, 1 joypad, all leads, and no damage for £20 inc. postage in the UK. :D

  15. If he gets this thing to work, how will we be able to use it? WIll we have to design our own "computer" to play the BINS or does it use carts?

Considering he's just making a chip, what you attach to it is up to you. You could attach a cartridge port, or a compact flash interface with a bunch of ROMs on a card...

I guess one could build a very compact version of a 2600 with this, would it work with a small LCD screen?

As the guy said on the site, his main idea for the chip was to produce Atari 2600 handhelds that require a lot less current (= longer battery life), and don't involve cutting up existing ataris. So... yes :)

  16. again.. I said emulaTOR not emulaTION.

I am refering to the emulator software NOT what it is running.  I am meaning the Direct X functions it is using... NOT the object processor it is emulating.

I can't believe you guys are having such a heated argument based on pure conjecture over an Emulators FPS routine! Why not just ask the author how it comes up with its figure?!
