  1. should be (705 600 / 2) /8 000 000 = 4% we need count of audio data words (16bit): 705 600 bytes / 2, and we divide them by 8 000 000 - data bus slots available per second @Chri O. I mean how they get data from HDD, via TOS calls or by direct access to the SCSI device
  2. That ~3 MB/s was my result on a boosted Falcon (phantom like booster). On a stock machine it was much less. There I see https://www.atari-forum.com/viewtopic.php?p=84075#p84075 an IDE figure: 2670 Kb/s For 8 tracks 16bit 44,1Khz we need 705 600 bytes per second, in case of that IDE figure about 26% (705 600/2 670 000)of the CPU taken only for data transfer. In case of SCSI it is 4% (705 600/8 000 000 ) of the Bus usage. I was using D2D with SCSI (Cubase) and also with IDE (I don't remember the App name now) and that 26% vs 4% sounds very realistic. GEM GUI was less responsible in case of IDE than with SCSI. I wonder how Cubase managed that SCSI disk access.
  3. yep, the DMA for the SCSI has factory limited speed (IIRC 2MB/s - as it is done with the ACSI in the ST) and IDE is pure CPU driven. IIRC my top score for IDE was ~3MB/s and the CPU was 100% busy with IDE task. In case of SCSI it was ~1.8MB/s and CPU was almost free for other tasks (e.g. Cubase). So, we have something for something here.
  4. I had a VGA adapter and also SM124 adapter. Regarding HDD port, Falcon has SCSI II instead of ACSI
  5. wow, less that Falcon 030, Maybe buying a few would be a good investment
  6. the ST's BLiTTER can be used for various things like filling polygons (e.g. demo Back to oldschool by Mystic Bytes). In some cases you can run the BLitter and the CPU in parallel (one long instruction like mul/div/ bit rotation).
  7. do we have figures for VCS, how many have been sold?
  8. actually it was my question to you which group do you mean anyway, interesting mention about "TT" from 18 Feb 1986! https://groups.google.com/g/net.micro.atari/c/L_s5p_vR1uk
  9. Do you mean net.micro.atari16 - predecessor of comp.sys.atari.st? https://groups.google.com/g/net.micro.atari16 or just net.micro.atari https://groups.google.com/g/net.micro.atari ?
  10. GPU has 32bit access to the main ram and in case of DSP and 68k it is 16bit. GPU: "Main code ram execution can run almost as fast as in the local or not depending on the bus activity. In its worse case it is by far faster then the 68k." Regarding Jumps from to the main ram, GPU can do them but there are some restrictions like proper alignment for the destination.
  11. two more TOS images: bomb and mushroom (from pre TOS 1.0) Atari mushroom.bmp Atari bomb.bmp
  12. Atari icons can be found: 1) google images and phrase "atari TOS icons" (attached screen) 2) Icon images in TosPatch LZH files: https://www.markusheiden.de/atari/tospatch.html
