  1. Robotron is definitely a great muscle-flexer for the 7800. As is Food Fight, but not to the same extent. Both must-haves for the 7800.
  2. For Christmas I received a fat stack of games from Santa, and decided to start with the mostly shunned shmup, Otomedius Excellent. Only played it about an hour, and yeah, it's pretty bad. But then again, I'm pretty bad at playing it. I'll give it a fair shake. Also lately I've been playing my fair share of Puzzle Quest 2, Raiden Fighter Aces (more specifically Raiden Fighters Jet), Skyrim, and Midway Arcade Origins.
  3. I'd recommend Castle Crashers on XBLA. Fun with friends or by yourself. Old school side scrolling beat 'em up with RPG elements. Short distances between save points, easy to learn how to play, high replay value after you've beaten it, and incredibility addictive if you're one of those gamers that like unlockable characters or collecting things.
  4. That was hilarious. I won't be picking one up any time soon, either. Still having fun with the Wii, kids are still having fun with the Wii, and I'd rather spend the money on some more games to be perfectly honest. WiiU has some neat stuff, but nothing I can't live without for a few years.
  5. I just saw this. It's worth it to me just to get Torchlight and To The Moon. Not sure about the other titles, so it looks like I've got a little bit of reading to do.
  6. If you have yet to pick up an Atari Flashback 4, Walgreens is selling them for only $30 for a limited time.
  7. This is my favorite two-player game on the 7800. Mainly because a lot of two-player cooperative games in general rely on both players working independently. But when both players are used to control the same guy, suddenly you're introduced to a whole new level of cooperation. Love it.
  8. Bagman is a great arcade game that got no love at all from the consoles. Would have been great if it found a home on the 7800. Actually, it would have been nice to have seen the 7800 become the console that became home to the classic video games that no other consoles would port. Food Fight was certainly a great place to tee off. From there go with Bagman, Timber, Zoo Keeper, Gladiator, Sinistar, Mappy, Satan's Hollow, and Bosconian.
  9. Not to resurrect this aging thread, but I lost my hardcore character this morning simply due to losing my connection. And because I prefer to play solo, there wasn't anybody else around to bail me out. If Blizzard is going to insist that I be online every time I want to play their game, the least they could do is cut me a break by either automatically logging my hardcore character out when I lose my connection, or give me a resurrection option when it happens. But they don't offer any of that. I'm forever done with Blizzard in every regard.
  10. I would have loved an SNES or Genesis port, but it just wasn't time for Rampage. Fighters, RPGs, and sports games were making leaps and bounds at the time, and nobody was all that interested in a dusty old arcade game (not that anybody on this forum would consider a 7 - 10 year old game either dusty or old). By the time the SNES came out, the only arcades that carried Rampage must have done so out of emotional attachment as there was never anybody playing it. But it certainly would have been cool if they gave us either a great arcade port, or a sequel with an additional twist. The monster mayhem genre is ageless in my eyes, but to give us a 16-bit version with some unlockable characters, skill allotments, and/or a beat 'em up aspect...the game would have fit in nicely with what was popular at the time. I'd like to see Rampage get the reboot treatment for modern consoles. It's been what...six or seven years since a new Rampage game? Total Destruction was great. And 100% co-signed on bringing Road Rash back. One of my all time favorite franchises, although Jail Break was pretty awful.
  11. Just heard about it today. Really excited about it. Especially if each game will have their own small set of achievements. Hoping for Timber, Domino Man, Joust 2, and Satan's Hollow.
  12. Took the words right out of my mouth. I liked pen & paper gaming, but would play RPGs on the Commodore and eventually Amiga. I was also into console gaming, of course, but definitely not for RPGs. I bought Ultima III for the NES and thought it was alright, but really didn't have any interest in any other console RPGs. I never played any of those three until I picked up Dragon Warrior in '94. Today I like all three, but of those three my favorite is Dragon Warrior. I'll even go so far as to say I prefer the Dragon Warrior/Quest series over the Final Fantasy series. And slightly off topic, but worthy of mention...it's kind of too bad the Phantasie series never made that early 8-bit transition into console gaming. Bard's Tale, Ultima, Pool Of Radiance, and Wizardry never caught on. But Phantasie would have been more in style with the Final Fantasy crowds. Just saying. Would have been nice to play some additional sequels.
  13. This can be good and bad. GameStop isn't stupid, and they won't horrendously overprice their stuff. It may be a little more expensive, but it won't be terrible. In that sense it will be a great reference tool for people that want to sell their stack of 2600 carts at a yard sale for $50/each. Everybody knows who GameStop is, and when you pull up their website on your smartphone and show them a copy of Combat is worth two bucks then perhaps you can talk yourself into a deal. On the other hand, unless they're willing to price dump all their product at first in order to gain a foothold, their business model will fail. The collectors out there already have their places of doing business. Even if it's just yard sales, garbage cans, flea markets, and pawn shops. Collectors generally HATE GameStop due to them running all the mom and pop stores out of business that would actually sell Colecovision games in the first place. The people that still shop there are the modern console enthusiasts that buy based on familiarity and convenience. If they want to play an NES game, they'll probably just download a ROM for free. If GameStop is successful with this, it's going to be an entirely uphill battle.
  14. I don't really care for these kinds of games, but this is one I'll be trying for sure. Looks a little thin from the video, though, so I'm curious to see where they go with it.
  15. Holy cow. That's pretty bad. I never buy from somebody that has to do some smoke & mirrors show to sell you on something. He's obviously trying to con somebody into paying way too much money for his lot. The equivalent of a used car salesman. As for the grading of games, it was inevitable. The more popular your hobby becomes, the more likely some assclown will come along and invent a way to make it not fun anymore.
  16. I'm on right now jamming on some Root Beer Tapper. Look me up under the tag: Shevenell
  17. Well, the idea hasn't taken off, unfortunately. So for now should we all just say that we're going to try and commit ourselves to some online retro gaming on the 360 this weekend? Perhaps people could instead use this thread to update their online status and what they're currently playing? The weekend is going to be really nice around here. And one thing that hasn't changed with me since childhood is the fact that I'll take playing outside on a nice day over video games. But I will absolutely make it a point to get online.
  18. I'm willing to buy anything that's still available, but my big three that I would definitely want to play online are Root Beer Tapper, Joust, and Gyruss. Would also be interested in just about anything offered through Game Room. I wouldn't be available Thursday and Friday, but I'll be around Saturday and Sunday. My tag is Shevenell
  19. I'm totally on board with this idea. We could set up a weekend and designate certain blocks of time for certain games. Even keep track of scores for the weekend and post a top 3 for each game when the weekend's over. Agreed. I was never a good Centipede or Millipede player in the first place, but picked the game up on a whim. I even figured that if I could practice the fast mode, I would just become a better all around player. But that wasn't the case. It's just too fast to learn anything from. Definitely not my cup of tea.
  20. I haven't been playing any retro games lately, but I do love me some Root Beer Tapper, Gyruss, Contra, X-Men, Robotron, TMNT 1989 and Joust. Plus Game Room is a good way to get in some proper Food Fight and Crystal Castles time. Oh, and the Namco Museum is a must-own. If anybody is looking for some online retro gaming, feel free to add me to your friends list. My tag is: Shevenell Unless I'm watching Netflix, I'm always in the mood for some retro gaming. Message me anytime.
  21. The ironic thing to me is the fact that Square-Enix will be releasing the FF11: Seekers Of Adoulin expansion next year...for the PS2.
  22. Usually I feel better when I play the older games. It's a moment in time where I can let go of the reality of being an adult and escape back to my childhood just for a little bit. When I'm done with my game, I usually feel better. Like taking a nap or drinking a coffee.
  23. Yep, that's how it is with me. My oldest boy is 12, and I started him off on the Atari 2600. He likes the modern stuff more as that's what all his friends gravitate towards, but he definitely likes playing the older stuff with his old man. Plus we don't live very far from Funspot, so he's spent plenty of time with the classic arcade games, too. Ironically, Contra is one of his favorite games. For the most part, a good game back then is still a good game today.
  24. An old friend E-Mailed me from out of the blue to say hello and see if I might be able to stop by and help him hook up a printer he just got. So I stop over there, hook it up to his desktop and laptop, and while I'm there he goes, "Oh, before I forget I found something for you". He comes back with a 2600 heavy sixer in the box. He was like, "This is just taking up space, and I'd hate to throw it away, but I know you're the guy that's going to appreciate it". So I get it home, and the box is in really decent shape for the age. Definitely been chillaxing in a basement, but other than some moving scrapes and scuffs, the box is fully intact and structurally sound. Everything is inside including the original cardboard "tray", plus the original manual and warranty registration card which also has a free offer for a "Video Computer System Log Book". I'm sure some of the Atari collectors have filing cabinets stuffed with these Log Book things, but this is the first time I've seen one. I'm pretty excited for something that was completely free. I didn't have a heavy sixer box in my collection, and wouldn't have expected to find one is such nice shape.
  25. I guess I'd go with Ogre Battle for the SNES. Tough choice, though.
