Ah yes, my bad. It looks as though you only get the original game with a pre-order. If you didn't pre-order you still get the rest of it, though. It comes in a box to accomidate the stand, and the cards were packed inside the game case. Withouth the original Icarus = good deal. With the original Icarus = gooder deal And I'm impressed with the stand it comes with. It's relatively sturdy for being so light, folds up nicely, and is about the same length and width as the 3DS so you can cart it around with you. Doesn't make me want to dance through the streets like Jason Alexander in a McDLT commercial, but it's a decent throw-in I'll be using with other games.

Being a huge fan of the original NES game from 1987, the new Kid Icarus game was pretty much my major reason for buying the 3DS. So today is the day it's finally out. I typically don't pre-order games and then go stand out in front of the store waiting for them to open...but I did that today. Anyway, for $40 you get the new game, six AR cards (whatever they do), a stand to play it on, and a code to download a 3D version of NES Kid Icarus. Not a bad deal at all. So I get home and crank it up...and it's even better than what I was expecting. Although even using the stand my left hand still kind of cramps up after about half an hour or so. I can't imagine somebody spending any amount of time playing this without one. Well, at least for an adult. I'm sure my kids won't be all that bothered with it. Anybody else pick this up yet? I'm really digging it so far.

Zeke from Zoo Keeper.

I was waiting to see if they would do anything different (other than the expected price drop), but any current rumored changes wouldn't be worth it to me to wait. I ended up buying one last Saturday along with Ocarina Of Time. Wish I didn't wait so long. It's a really nice handheld.

Brian Fargo wants to make Wasteland 2

That's some of the best gaming news I've heard in a long time. -
I'll stay optimistic about it. Would be nice to stick the original Karateka in a blender with a game like Bushido Blade and see what you get.

Atari arcade games which should come to xbla
Spoon replied to bloodreptile's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Yeah, I really liked Gameroom. What sucks the most about this is people are going to point to it and say, "There's obviously no market for re-releasing older games. The world needs more military first person shooters!" Anyway, I'll vote for Firefox. -
Related topic: best way to clean the NES connector?
Spoon replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'm not a huge fan of buying kits for stuff, so I just go over the connectors gently with a fine wire brush. Need to do it about once a year, sometimes twice, but I haven't replaced the original connector yet, either. -
Which is the toughest of The Big Three?
Spoon replied to atarilovesyou's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I'll vote Battletoads. Even looking back as a kid when games were scarce due to financial limitations and you had to milk everything you could from a game both good and bad, Battletoads was so frustratingly difficult I'd throw in the towel every time. To this day I don't even own a copy of that game. -
Yeah! That's what I'm looking for. Had to do some research on it, and sounds right up my alley. Love the idea of hand-mapping with the stylus, even if you won't have a nice folder of graph paper maps to show for it when you're done. And could probably do without the scantily-clad children, too. Thanks a million for the recommendation, man. I'm on it like...hmmm...something sticky that ends in "it", I guess.

I didn't care for it when I first played it, but then I reached a point where I had beaten every RPG I owned and was jonsing for a new challenge. Once I sat down and focused on it, I ended up really enjoying it. Was looking forward to the sequel, but I guess it wasn't meant to be. Ha ha ha! A friend of mine got this for Christmas one year. We played this for about twenty minutes, turned it off, and never spoke of it again. Such an amazingly awful game in every aspect known to man, and even some aspects yet to be discovered.

It's being released on Valentine's Day this year. I have Blood Drive which I kind of like. I don't know of any others, though. If you could recommend me a few titles I would totally appreciate it, man. Yeah, new Wizardry, but it's exclusive to Playstation which I don't own. I've been tempted to buy a PS3 with the new Wizardry game being a big plus. I don't know of any other modern dungeon crawlers like that, though. First person with focus on creation of a party and insanely difficult mazes is what I like. I have a PSP and DS, but I don't play them very much. I'll have to swing through both sections next time I'm browsing some video games. Thanks for the head's up.

Car combat games. The Vigilante 8 remake was fantastic, and perhaps the new Twisted Metal game will spark some overdue interest, but I'd really love to see some new car combat games. I'd also love to see some new classic dungeon crawlers in vein of old Bard's Tale/Wizardry/Dungeon Master.

Wrestlemania for the NES. I'd already conquered Pro Wrestling on NES and Rock n Wrestle for C64, and being a big WWF nerd as a kid, bought it sight unseen right when it came out. What a disappointment. Not only was the gameplay terrible, but it was so easy.

Rival Turf used to make me angry just looking at it... And I remember seeing Checkers for Intellivision and feeling bad for the poor slob who got that little nugget for Christmas...

Heh. I just checked out a hole-in-the-wall records/comics/video games shop today and was bowled over by the weedstink that belched out when I opened the door. Never seemed to have a problem with stoners at GameStop, though. Mostly a variety highschool kids and nerdlings trying to impress the girls that venture in there.

Technically, no. But there's a big difference between no good games being left, and a ton of good games being left. For me, there's still a ton of good games left on the 360 I haven't even played yet, much less invested some time into. But I see what you're saying. In the age of Gamefly, a lot of people play the latest and greatest right when they come out and ship them back when they're done with them. And a new system just means more of a selection of new releases.

What I can't understand is how Microsoft and Sony can look at the success and longevity of the PS2, yet still think they need to sink some serious cash into another new console. It's like they both refuse to learn from the past and instead just want to blaze through the future. It's mind boggling. When I look at the high end PC games I think, "Yeah, that looks nice". What I don't think is, "Wow! That looks so nice I would totally drop $400 on a new system and another $120 on a couple new games! That's a perfectly reasonable return on my investment!" What PS3 and X-Box 360 are releasing right now is just fine with me. And no way am I going to be on board with a next gen system at this point. I could play everything in my library right now and be happy until the next gen drops to under $300. That's assuming I never buy another clearance game for the current systems. I'd say there's a better chance of me getting back into PC gaming in all honesty.

What funny names did/do you input for yourself in games?
Spoon replied to retrorussell's topic in Classic Console Discussion
If I was playing Oregon Trail at school, I would typically use "D*CKHEAD" for my tombstone if nobody was looking. But I typically don't use anything profane on my own video games. I have band in Rock Band called "Crotchtallica", and I believe a football team in an older game called "Bathtub Sh*tter", but that's about it. -
Amen. The X-Box 360 is really what brought me back to modern gaming. I started to sour to "modern consoles" when the Playstation came out and tended to stick with the games on older models. This didn't stop me from buying and collecting for modern consoles, but the majority of my time was with the older stuff. Then along comes the 360 which I only bought on a whim so I could game online with some friends, and my interest in modern gaming was completely revitalized. I'd have a hard time organizing a top three, but it would be between the 360, NES, and 2600.

Video game+action figures=new concept?
Spoon replied to SoulBlazer's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Hmmm...it's an interesting idea, although not one I'd expect to light the world on fire. Then again, I don't know how beloved the Spyro franchise is. I think if they tried this concept with a more established toy like My Little Pony, G.I. Joe, Transformers, or even Star Wars then I would bet on it being a bigger deal. The way I look at it, I'm not interested in paying $2.50 - $5.00 for some DLC character pack. But if I could buy some cool G.I. Joes or He-Man figures for $8/pop AND use them in a video game, I could easily see myself investing in some figures after forking over $70 for the game. -
I seem to remember Heretic had a few nods to Doom. If you put in Doom's God code you instantly die and get a message that says something like, "Trying to cheat, huh? Now you die!". And if you put in the Doom weapons code, you lose all your weapons and get a message that reads something like, "You don't deserve weapons!" Also, and it's probably just be because I was playing a cracked version, but Ultima III for the Amiga had a character in town that would proclaim, "Zelda sucks!". Never played a true copy to confirm such a thing, but they were both released in '86 so I guess it's a possibility. Oh, and Super Pitfall had the classic scorpion graphic as an enemy in one part.

I don't know if it's a 4-way bracket or not, but I've heard it's great for the classic games. For only $35, I just snagged one. Awesome deal!

I can get that to work on mine just fine. But I don't hit reset. I hold up, A, and B, and then hit the power switch. Works every time.
