Come out, come out, wherever you are!
FlightSuit replied to FlightSuit's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Dude, if you haven't found MILF porn with actual MILFs, you must not be looking very hard. I recommend cheggit.com. Every conceivable type of legal porn can be found there, free of charge. Or so I've heard. Regarding "lipstick lezzies" and/or hot straight girls who have sex with each-other, such women are not at all rare. In fact, I'd say the vast majority of the women I've been involved with have fallen into the latter category. Shoot, now that I think about it, that probably describes all of them. I do tend to run with a fast crowd, though. Too bad I've never been particularly excited about the notion of two girls gettin' with each other. I'm not at all bothered by it, but I do find it peculiar that it's such a huge turn-on for so many guys. -

First time I've heard it! In fact, it went right by me the first time, and if you had not said "that joke is so old," I woulda missed it completely! -

A friend of mine has a free subscription to that trash. She showed me the issue that arrived in today's mail, and we were both stunned to see that the cover of the magazine is now a full-page advertisement! Complete with the discrete, little "advertisement" disclaimer in fine print at the top of the page so you don't get confused and mistake the ad for unbiased editorial content. Oh, Maxim, I pray that this is a sign you've fallen on hard times and will soon be out of business. Open the magazine, and you discover that the "real" cover is hiding inside, but as far as I'm concerned, this does not in any way redeem this already irredeemable garbage. turn a few pages and you find such enlightening things as a page of "hometown hotties," and an article on how to have a one-night stand with today's modern, on-the-prowl woman. The article assures you that if a woman is alone in a bar after midnight on a Tuesday, she is definitely looking to have a one-night-stand. Remember this for your upcoming rape trial: "But Maxim told me she was askin' for it!" Continue to turn pages, and you'll soon find an ad for, and I'm not making this up, bubblegum flavored vodka. "Who would want to drink bubblegum flavored vodka?" My friend wondered. To which I replied, "Children!" -

That film's getting awful reviews, but I think anybody who doesn't like it must not have been paying attention. The scene where he travels to the Middle East, interviews a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyr Brigade, and manages to seriously piss him off is priceless. And then, of course, there's "Straight Dave's" pro wrestling/straight pride hate rally! And so many other brilliant, uncomfortable, horrifying, hilarious moments. No, it isn't as good as Borat, but how could you possibly top that film? -

Oh man, have you seen the new film, Brüno? Ron Paul is in the film! Brüno, AKA Sacha Baron Cohen, gets Ron Paul alone in a hotel room and attempts to get him to participate in a gay sex tape. I don't want to give too much away if you haven't seen the film, but let's just say that Congressman Paul did not find Brüno's sexual advances to be particularly flattering. -

Gay parades take place because they're celebrating the fact that despite the hatred and persecution, they've survived. I guess you've never been part of a hated, persecuted minority, so you don't understand. And speaking as a heterosexual male with many close friends in the gay community, i.e., somebody who knows quite well what happens on both sides of the fence, I can say with complete conviction that heterosexual men are every bit as sick and twisted as gay men. More so, actually, because unlike our gay brothers, the vast majority of straight men have never been forced to truly explore their own sexuality, have never reckoned with it. So you get things like date rape, rape in general, Maxim Magazine, and other hateful, disgusting expressions of straight male sexuality. But I'm wasting my breath here. Either you get it or you don't. -
Help us name our videogame documentary
FlightSuit replied to mattbarton.exe's topic in Classic Console Discussion
None of those name ideas were any good. This, of course, is a take-off on the very recent, extremely modern Internet slang term, "epic fail." Extremely modern Internet slang is very annoying, and doesn't seem very relevant to a documentary which purports to cover a history which spans several decades. Also, where's the win? Who won something? Videogaming in general is about loss: You fritter away countless dollars and many long hours of your short life, which you will never get back. How is that a victory? What power? Whose power? If you're a videogamer, you're not playing with power; you're playing with yourself. Please see my previous comments about incredibly annoying Internet slang. Add to them the fact that Woot is the name of a very popular Web site and store which doesn't have anything to do with gaming. This can only confuse people. This is just about the least original, most generic title imaginable. There are only, like, a million magazine and newspaper articles or TV human-interest pieces which have already used this name as a headline or title. This isn't especially bad, but it's not particularly good, either. It's just kind of bland. I'm sorry if my comments seem harsh, but I calls 'em as I sees 'em, and I woudn't be doing you any favors by withholding my opinions. I do sincerely wish you the best of luck with your documentary, and I'll be interested to know what title you ultimately choose. -
Come out, come out, wherever you are!

No, it's a lot different. Nazism is synonymous with the murder of innocent people, including, but not limited to, Jews, Gypsys, handicapped people, and homosexuals. Gayness is not synonymous with any form of oppression or tyranny, and the only way you could possibly think that gays are forcing their lifestyle upon you is if you have some serious hang-ups about human sexuality and a real lack of boundaries. There is nothing wrong with having a "pride" parade, and there is nothing wrong with such a parade including naked men on leashes. Naked people on leashes are pretty cool. If you're wondering why there isn't a straight pride parade, it's 'cause straights haven't spent centuries being murdered, raped, beaten, and imprisoned as punishment for being straight. There are not millions of straight teenagers lying in graves because they committed suicide as a result of living in ignorant families and communities that told them there was something deeply wrong with being heterosexual. That is why there's no straight parade. -

You think I didn't know this? It is precisely because Buck Rogers pre-dates the Gil Gerard show that I thought licensing the use of the name might be an easy way of cashing in on the show's popularity without paying the show's producers. That is to say, use of the name by itself may have been something that could have been authorized by the owners of the original franchise, without the makers of the TV show having anything to say about it. I expect this is probably how it went down.
-
The Gameshark is another method for playing imports. That's how I did it back in the day.
-
Correct. The game is known in Japan as Zoom 909 (I've played the SG-1000 version on Meka), and they stuck the Buck Rogers license on it for the stateside arcade game. Hence the full title "Buck Rogers - Planet of Zoom". Interesting. I wonder if maybe the licensing for just the name "Buck Rogers" was something that could be obtained separately from, and thus cheaper than, the licensing to do a tie-in with the TV show. Thus, they could capitalize on whatever popularity the show had without having to pay for it.
-
The odd thing is that the Buck Rogers TV show was still a current thing during that era, yet, correct me if I'm wrong, the Arcade and Coleco games had nothing to do with the series.

Well somebody needs to direct us to some screen shots of Phalanx! -
Well I'm glad somebody appreciates all my scanning!

I don't know if this is what you're lookin' for, but I scanned the following in quite some time ago: The above scans are from the December 1983 issue of Electronic Games magazine. The next two may be from the same issue or a different one (I honestly don't recall):

Almost all of the cars in Ford Racing 2 are street cars. Cars designed for street use do, in fact, have hand brakes, and they can, in fact, be used for whipping a car around under certain circumstances. I wouldn't necessarily call it an example of skilled driving technique, but it sure can be fun.

Oh, wow! The sound is broken when you're playing it in MAME, so this is the first time since the early 1980s that I've actually heard the game's horrible music. I'm amazed that whoever made that video has actually played the thing enough that he can progress to the level he gets to before dying. Just watching somebody else play the game makes me want to kill myself. On the bright side, now everybody can see what we're talking about with regards to the kid looking like he's blowing the monkey. -
Damn, his mom needs a make-over! My avatar image is from the Japanese series, Giant Robo, which was known in the US as Johnny Sokko and His Flying Robot. If you'd like to see a funny short film I created by re-editing an episode of the show, click here: Canada's Agriculture Nightmare

Obscene Moments In Classic Gaming

Those bums created at least two Dig-Dug rip-offs! They had that one, and something called Digger. -
Thank you! I do most of my gaming on an Intel Macintosh with GMA950 graphics, so most of those other titles are probably not an option for me. Speaking of Mustang enthusiasm, I'm sorry Ford Racing 2 didn't include a Mustang II of some sort. I know that's not exactly a popular car, but hey, if they can include something as cheesy as a '76 Torino, why not give us a Mustang II as well? Preferably a Cobra II or King Cobra, just for laughs. For that matter, an '84 SVO would have been a great one to include, as well as a notchback 5.0 LX. Also from that era, a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe and Merkur XR4Ti would have been great cars to include. Tell me, which models are included in that Ford Mustang game?
-
Does anybody here find Ford Racing 2 as frustrating as I do? What bothers me about it is that it's one of those games where so many of the elements of a great game are in place, yet they managed to mess it up. You've got very realistic physics, great graphics, beautiful, interesting race tracks, and a wonderful variety of quirky and unusual cars to choose from. My favorites would be the Starsky & Hutch style Torino and the equally elephantine and cheesy Mach 1 Mustang. So what did they get wrong? Well first of all, if you want to unlock all the cars and add them to your collection, you have no choice but to endure maddeningly impossible tests of your "driving skill." Rather than being able to win races and unlock cars by just driving the wheels off them and having a good time, you have to suffer through various tests where you need to hit every single floating hourglass on the track or keep your car on some imaginary line 90% of the time or "draft" other cars by staying in their slipstream for X amount of seconds. All of this is tedious and impossible and not very fun. As one commenter on Codez4Mac.com recently put it, "all this line driving is killing me." Then there's the complete lack of "go anywhere" driving ability. Heck, there aren't even any hidden shortcuts in any of the tracks. How boring is that? Another annoyance is the touchiness of the emergency brake. In any decent driving game, you can use your emergency break to help steer the car, enabling you to slide around tight corners, precisely aim your car, and come powering out of the turn. In Ford Racing 2, however, you don't dare touch the emergency brake under any conditions, because it will always, always cause your vehicle to uncontrollably spin out. And of course, there's the fascistic limits on what car you're allowed to drive on what track. Once I've unlocked a track and added it to my collection, you'd think I'd damned well be able to drive whatever damned car I want on it, but noooo. Street cars can only be driven on the street, and NASCAR vehicles can only be driven on the oval tracks. Why the Hell shouldn't I be allowed to drive my Mach 1 Mustang on an off-road course if I so desire? If the car's not adequate for the terrain, let me have fun finding that out, for Christ's sake! Another thing is the lack of any kind of ongoing "campaign," "season," or "career." I'm used to games like 4X4 Evolution 2, where, over the course of time, you can earn money by driving in various racing series, enabling you to invest in additional trucks and a whole host of upgrades and modifications for those trucks. Additionally, you can join various manufacturer's teams, giving you access to team-specific trucks and parts, and you can even get kicked off a team if you spend too much time driving a competitor's trucks. There is none of that in Ford Racing 2. You can imagine that you're involved in some sort of ongoing quest as you try to unlock all the cars and tracks and add them to your collection, but once that's done, you're left with a game where every single race is pretty much a one-night stand, which I guess is OK from a casual gaming perspective, but it sucks that that's your only option. Anyway, I just had to vent. Over in "Classic Gaming General," there's been much lively discussion regarding truly flawed or awful games, and this, in my opinion, is a modern game which fits into that category. Thanks for listening.
