  1. I decided to just e-mail RetroGames directly, they said they are hoping for more N. American stock to land in January 2021. So that's good news!
  2. Not that it changes anything, but did anyone else have their orders cancelled by Amazon?
  3. My non-informed guess would be something along the lines of a Mania 2 or a new thing completely.
  4. It didn’t ship...I’ve been holding out hope as sometimes they do one day stuff bc of a close warehouse. then... I got an email this morning saying they won’t be able to fulfill it
  5. Update: just got an email saying to expect it Saturday, here we go!
  6. Small update: I got the “do you still want this?” e-mail from Amazon. Looks like new ship date estimate for my order is mid-December through early January. Here’s hoping some of y’all got the same note
  7. A podcast I co-produce called Arcane Carolinas (not the one I do for work that @Tommy Tallarico graciously came on) will be doing a special video episode today as a part of the American Sci-Fi Classics track at the one and only DragonCon. I made it a point to bring my Intellivision mug on for the episode to hopefully sow some seeds of "whats that?" among people that might not be aware of the Amico. Is product placement shilling if I'm not paid, and just do it as a someone that believes in the product 😆?
  8. Anyone in here attending Dragon Con (virtual) this year? I'll post why this question is relevant to this thread closer to the event if anyone's attending.
  9. All caught up! Finish: Matte woodgrain! Matte finish all day, every day. Delays: Delay was handled perfectly, consumers were kept in the loop for months on the possibility and the reasons are understandable. Teams: The people involved in this journey project a passion for the mission, and I think that is something special. It was cool to hear from some faces behind the journey. Games: Keep the sneak peeks and hands-on demonstrations coming! Not every game is going to be for every consumer...AND THATS OK! I didn’t have any surprise changes to my “top 5” after this, but it was cool to see new games. Im still excited for my VIP pre-order and look forward to watching the product’s journey to market unfold. @Tommy Tallarico - thanks for including us along the way.
  10. Aw man I've got a meeting tomorrow that can't be moved. I'm gonna be relying on you guys for a full post-presentation breakdown of all the cool news!
  11. I definitely agree that the potential for abuse of trust is there. I brought this idea up a couple pages back and one of the responses was something along the lines “what?! Atari up potentially up to shady practices?” I co-host an information security podcast at work and reached out the Atari PR people to try and get an interview around privacy and risk considerations surrounding the appliance/computer/tacobox, they declined. One of the things I was going to ask was specifically about was around this topic...if anyone gets one when/if this comes out Im hoping someone wants to run a pcap to share. I think we could have a lot of fun seeing exactly what this box is up to.
  12. to my point earlier: I’d love to do a bake-off between systems re: data privacy, security, and OS stability. Throw each system in the lab for traffic analysis, index CVEs with the respective kernels, test exploits, etc but I feel like that might be punching down a little bc of the point a few lines up - only one of the entities is a tech company, the other just licenses IP and has made hats with speakers in them. I think I’ll just stick with making mine Amico and not worrying the little PC with a half baked OS likely leaking data with it’s always online required
  13. Agree 100% on the monetization of user data!
  14. Catching up on all the “news” surrounding this project after getting that recent email re: pre-orders. After reading about the need for the AtariOS to have constant connectivity, I would love the chance to get a unit and observe what traffic comes and goes from the box. From a nefarious perspective it’s entirely possible that the AtariOS could just a potential botnet to mine coin. Speculative? Sure, outside the realm of possibility - nah.
  15. While we’re still on the topic of the company that crowd funded and hasn’t delivered yet, I think it would be interesting to run a pcap on the box when/if it is delivered to see exactly what info it sends and receives. I have this gut feeling that it’s potentially a combination of an off the shelf coin miner for the parent company, while having a system engineered to monetize user data. This is speculative, but based on the tidbit that it requires an internet connection to operate and the only thing we know about the proprietary OS is that is has “the vault” I see no good reason to require connectivity. I bring this up to highlight that Tommy has been really clear about what is NOT at risk regarding data exfiltration and the Amico. Another reason I’m team Amico beyond the games.
  16. Saw the Golden Ticket email, this type of promo is so great for generating buzz and really appeals to a lot people, just dropped by to wish everyone the very best of luck, I know I'll be excitedly checking
  17. Hey everyone, I’m somewhat of a lurker here, but today I have something tangible to contribute to the conversation! In my professional life I work in information security, and recently Tommy came on the podcast we produce for our user base. It was an especially fun diversion for me during the quarantine because I was already a fan of the Intellivision Amico project (proud owner of a coffee mug and have preordered units for my whole family). After chewing my co-hosts ear off about it, he got to hear about the system straight from Tommy, and we were able to get down into the weeds about some of the ways Intellivision Entertainment is taking security and privacy concerns into consideration. On top of that, there’s even some super exciting news that I hadn't seen elsewhere about a day 1 launch game near and dear to my heart. The show is called “Data @ Rest” and is available via Apple Podcast, Google Play, Spotify, iHeartRadio and directly on the web via https://directory.libsyn.com/episode/index/show/data-at-rest/id/14316407 I hope you’ll check it out it and give it a go. PS - I bought my own mug, I’m a fan, and passionate about the values/mission behind the project. - Charlie https://dataatrest.unc.edu
  18. I circled back and grabbed a second unit for myself to play in the garage (woodgrain) after already having pre-ordered one for the family/kids, but now after reading the games list and talking to my folks I might be picking up a THIRD for the kids to have at grandma’s. We were on the phone catching up and I brought up “remember Intellivision?” - after 5 minutes my mother says “well that sounds like something I’d like to play with the grandkids...” looks like it’s going to be an Intellivision Christmas for everyone in the family this year. stoked!
  19. The Moon Patrol demo, quality vids, and communications have been outstanding - definitely going pick one up to incorporate into family game night.
  20. I'm feeling pretty enthused about Amico after the Moon Patrol demo and the videos, awesome stuff!
  21. Gotcha, thank you for the insight. You know what? I learned something today!
  22. x100 this. It really bugs me to think about how the intellectually and developmentally challenged folks that are behaving in such a trusting matter are going to be emotionally impacted. I understand that business is business and anyone is welcome to order, but actively leading people on with disabilities with comments like "thanks @usernameofperson - we sure do love your support", and encouraging them with little social media "fan badges" screams to me that there is a lack of both corporate and personal ethics at play, and it is a real bummer.
  23. A HeathKit style product to build a 2600 clone with new components would actually be really fun, probably wouldn't move many units, but it would be fun.
