  1. One great thing about the VGC is that he is willing to listen to his readers when they disagree with his reviews. If you think he missed the boat on a particular review, you can leave feedback on his forums, and many times he'll take it into account and perhaps re-review the game.
  2. Not exactly. For example, they don't like the idea of playing a game that requires you to learn what 8 different buttons do. They like their controls to be much simpler than that. They want to be able to pick up the controller and learn what to do in the first 5 or so minutes. And once they learn the controls, of course they want to be challenged. People who are described as casual video gamers play real golf and real tennis. And why do many of them play these sports and find them fun? Because they are challenged by them and want to get better, even if that means playing for many hours. Even casual gamers become bored if they aren't challenged at least to some extent.
  3. I think Motion Plus controls can be popular with the casual gamer as long as they are both easy to learn and hard to master. Tiger Woods 10 fits this description perfectly. As I said, after hours of playing, I'm not exactly great yet, however, the controls were so simple that I didn't even need a tutorial. People make the false assumption that casual gamers do not want any challenge in their games. They just don't want to spend hours learning the controls. They have no problem spending hours trying to master the game. I suspect that Motion Plus accessories won't fly off the shelves in the first few weeks. We will see how popular Motion Plus is once Wii Sports Resort hits. If people aren't buying it at that time, then it probably won't be that big.
  4. Um, I guess I'm just stupid because it wasn't that obvious for me. I too find it kinda funny that people have been begging for 1:1 controls all this time and now that they get it (or close to it), they complain that it's too sensitive and too accurate. Like I said, it doesn't bother me. If it takes longer to master a game, it just adds to the challenge, which isn't a bad thing.
  5. Do you mean that it takes 5 hours to figure out the controls or 5 hours to get good at using them? If it takes 5 hours to figure them out, then something is wrong with the game. However, if it takes that long to become good, I don't see that as a bad thing at all. I've probably put close to 5 hours into Tiger Woods 10, and I definitely wouldn't call myself good yet. But that is part of its appeal for me. The challenge of it makes it addictive. You gradually see yourself improve, so you continue to practice to get better and better. I have a feeling that people who grew up spending a lot of time practicing a sport will like these Motion Plus sports games more than those who didn't. Also, Godzillajoe, I thought that you could play the game without using Motion Plus. Have you tried that?
  6. I wouldn't exactly say that we're getting "screwed". Sure, like you, I would have loved if the Wiimote was like this from the start. However, I believe that if the Wiimote had launched with this technology incorporated, it would have been significantly more expensive. I also look at it this way: I bought Tiger Woods 10 with a motion plus adapter for $60, the same as the PS3/360 versions, plus your getting a much better control scheme. That's not bad. Really, if you buy 4 motion plus adapters, at most it will cost you 80 bucks. Many here will not hesitate to buy a new game that they are interested in for $60. I will gladly pay a little more than that to be able to experience such a terrific new control scheme.
  7. Disc golf is a lot of fun. In fact so far I think I find it more addictive than regular golf. That's not to say that I don't like the regular golf aspects of the game. Thanks to the controls, it is really pretty amazing. If you have any experience at all playing real golf, you will be able to jump in and start playing right away without having to sit through any boring tutorials.
  8. Man, you've already made your decision based on a short teaser trailer?! Obviously you got a lot more out of that video than I did.
  9. I've been primarily playing the classic control way, but I did try out the motion controls, and they seemed to work pretty well. Haven't tried the balance board yet. One great thing about the motion controls is that it will give me a reason to go back and play through this game again to see how far I can get playing that way.
  10. You make it sound like they haven't changed anything about the games. It's to my understanding that the controls in Prime 1 and 2 have been overhauled to be very similar to what they are in Prime 3. For me that's the biggest selling point here. Personally, I think it's a great idea.
  11. Shell out? I heard they were selling this collection for $49.99. That's less than what they would have charged for the first two if sold separately.
  12. I suggest that those of you who have been disappointed by therealred's comments should check out this article that Cybergoth has listed here. If you aren't interested in the couple of new modes added to the game, you should probably pass on the game or wait until you can get it cheaper on ebay or something. It will be interesting to hear therealred's impressions of the World Circuit. According to my friend at another forum, this is where the game really kicks into gear and the difficulty ramps up. As far as motion controls are concerned, I look at them as kind of a nice "extra" of sorts. Yes, I will probably begin playing using the classic control style and play my way through that way. But once I've had my fill of the game, the motion controls will give me a reason to go back and play a different way.
  13. Well, I'm still pretty excited about this game. Even if the first time through feels pretty familiar, everything afterward still sounds interesting. I upped my shipping method at Amazon to 2 day shipping so I should get this game by the weekend.
  14. Hmm, now I'm confused because someone on another forum who's played the game has pretty much said the opposite thing. He also said that the game gets better the deeper you get into it. I find it hard to believe that the mainstream press would give an old-school game like this on average 9/10 if it was no more than a straight remake. However, if it is, I suppose at the very worst it will be a fun, yet familiar, game.
  15. At first I was a little disappointed that this wasn't a completely new game with new fighters. But the more I find out about this game, the more I like it. I was worried that the fighters would have the same attack patterns as the NES version, but apparently that's not the case. The new Title Defense mode, which is apparently really tough, sounds pretty cool. I'm now actually kind of glad it mostly includes the fighters from the original. It will be fun to see how they've been "re-imagined" in a modern game. So, yeah, I'm pretty psyched about this game.
  16. I'll admit that that trailer makes the game look pretty cool, but I doubt if I'll have much interest in Monster Hunter 3. It just doesn't seem like the kind of game I'd find fun. There are probably two dozen Wii games coming out the rest of this year alone I'd be more interested in.
  17. I don't like the fact that Capcom wussed out and gave in to all the crybabies who whined about the "kiddie" graphics. If this game doesn't turn out well or if the gameplay seems unpolished or whatever, we can probably owe it to all the time wasted these past months changing the game's visuals.
  18. Lol, I just checked out the link to the picture of the green DS and found the caption under it to be pretty amusing: "Yay! I wonder who this bundle is targeted at? Can we please get Virtual Console for the DSi instead of this crap?" I love when "hardcore" gamers get pissed off when something is made that isn't specifically targeted at them.
  19. I have no idea what the games will be, but whatever they are, I'd be shocked if one was for the Wii. Capcom doesn't make big game announcements for the Wii.
  20. Actually, I disagree with the notion that Red Steel doesn't deserve a sequel. While I don't think it's a great game (don't think it's terrible, either), I think it falls under the category of "games with a good concept and interesting ideas, but for whatever reason doesn't live up to its potential". I think in Red Steel's case the game wasn't as good as it could have been because it was rushed for the Wii's launch. I think with a little more time and good implementation of Wii MotionPlus, this could be a good game. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.
