It's coming along great. My biggest complaint is probably how cramped it feels. I don't know if there's anything you can do about it since the 2600 has low resolution, though.

I haven't looked at your code, but would it be possible to have the bees alternate between player1 and player 0? Because DK stays at the top, and stanley is always at the bottom, if, halfway through, the bees switched to player0 they wouldn't flicker when in line with Stanley. Or am I just a complete idiot for thinking that?

This gives me an idea. I'm going to type up an extensive note containing my phone number, email address, and various other ways of contacting me, along with a message and then I'll print multiple copies. Then, I'm going to gather up some ET cartridges and open them all up, placing the note inside each one. I'll put a little dot in permanent marker on the end label, so I can identify if I ever run across one. I will somehow distribute them. Sell a couple to the local retro game shop, drop a couple on the ground, leave a couple on the shelves at walmart, sell some on ebay, and attempt to sell at least 5 (at the same time) to Gamestop when they get mad run out angrily leaving the cartridges there. Then, I'll see what happens. You have to wonder what type of person would call. Could it be a collector that opened it up for cleaning? Could it be some kid who smashed it with a hammer because he thinks he's increasing the extreme rarity value? Or someone who smashes it as a joke for being a bad game? You could do some cool stuff with this concept, actually. There's quite a lot of room inside an Atari cart. A camera would be epic, but probably limited range to get the footage. A GPS system of some kind for you to track it would be cool. What if you put a camera in it along with a GPS, then tracked down the Atari cartridge and got the camera to dump the footage? Or, better yet, a sound setup? Like a phone! You could just get a dirt cheap pre paid phone and buy a lot of minutes. Then, you could gut it and turn on the setting that auto answers. That way you could call your Atari cartridge (ET pun not intended) and listen to what's happening. You could even mount a rather speaker in it, that you could use only towards the end of the battery's lifespan since the joke would be over anyway. You could try to get someone to retrieve it back to you. The possibilities are endless.

Porting the original classic Castlevania to the 2600
TooSlowGamer replied to grafixbmp's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Half those links didn't work. Anyway, all them have the same general art, but some are lighter/darker, mirrored, etc. I think if someone went over the image with pastels and made it look like a genuine Atari cart art it'd be excellent. -
Not enough to justify the costs:) Limited homebrew releases sell about 20 to 50 copies, top games might sell somewhat more in the AA store, but that's just my guess. @Philsan: If you are looking for more reasonable prices for patches drop Walter Lauer (gambler172) a line. He has great connections to Asia. What if he found someone who made them to order and it could be optional to buy with the cart?
-
That would be amazing if a patch came with every cartridge. I think it'd be worth it if it only added 5 dollars to the price. Although, I doubt you'll sell 1000 cartridges. But, then again, how many sales does the average homebrew cart get at atariage?

Porting the original classic Castlevania to the 2600
TooSlowGamer replied to grafixbmp's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
I hope that if the game ever gets finished and put on a cartridge, the label isn't just ripped directly from another version and put on an Atari Cartridge. Even through the label maker. This will deserve it's own art, or modified version of existing art. If anyone has any drawing ability, it would be absolutely OUTSTANDING if someone could redraw the Castlevania logo using pastels and make it look more like Atari cartridge art. -
I usually use a Genesis controller because they're really comfortable IMO and I'm more use to a DPad than a joystick. However, if I want to use a joystick, I'll use a Genesis joystick. I like it because they're good joysticks and they have some weight on the bottom.

I'll PM you in a minute, but don't stalk me. That would be bad. OK, one centered line it is. However, do you still want the gray color/blue text/same font? Or do you want a matching Atari end label?
-
Thanks! This will be a definite purchase by me, not only for the game, but because my name is in the manual! But, could you use my real name instead of my username?
-
Can my name be in the manual (if you use my label, of course)? Just a small credit in the corner of the last page? Please? Pretty please with a cherry on top? End Label: I pushed the text over to the right to correspond with the main label, but I dunno how well it would actually look on a real cartridge.
-
Postings at the same time is overwhelming me! As you can see I edited it to say Jump Rocket. Should the end label just be the same color and the same font? Do you want anything special. Like a little emblem after the name?
-
Edited to say "Jump Rocket" In regards to "Jump Rocket": It's good, but I like "Jump Jet" a little bit better. It just seems to flow more. Again, your call, not mine.
-
Squeeze Out makes me think of constipated men. I like Jump Jet. I've come up with an original logo design. I like it, but it's completely, 100% your call. I'm sorry if I'm coming across as pushy, especially with the name "Jump Jet". I can easily just type in Passthrough if you would like, but when I tried it, it didn't look too good with the font. Also, I only included your name on the cartridge. I noticed that on the original cartridge you included RevEng's name. If you want that included, just tell me and I'll try to fit it in.
-
I'll start work on an original label soon. I like passthrough. But, hmmm, how about a modified version of Passthrough? Something like "Fly Through" or "Shoot Through" or "Jet Through". I dunno, something?

Porting the original classic Castlevania to the 2600
TooSlowGamer replied to grafixbmp's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
Ewww, now that I look at it, Dracula's head is kinda cut off on there's a glow on Simon's. If anyone likes it at all, I can fix those. -
Here's my new label art. I just redid it and took out some little flaws. Please point out any flaws you see with it. Also post anything else you want me to try.
-
It's rough, there's some little kinks I can work out. There's also a big gap in between Atari and Lem. I could put VCS in it, but the C could be tricky. I could also try to move "LEM" over on top of the space ship. Oh, I didn't read about the 2600 in place of 1969. That could get tricky, but I could try it. Also, I like the original cover art. The one that someone said was too dark. It is too dark, but I think that's a good thing. It gives it style and gives the cool feeling of openness. Makes it feel like a space game.
-
Amazing. If I had to guess, I would have never thought it was in Batari Basic. One complaint. The title screen music is bad! It's boring, and the long note pierces my ears. Yuck.
-
Hi Chris No,please keep the old control.DK is not a paddle game. greetings Walter I suggested it as being an alternative control scheme. That way it keeps the original feel if you want it. I don't see why you guys wouldn't want this. Just because it's not traditional doesn't mean it's not fun.

Porting the original classic Castlevania to the 2600
TooSlowGamer replied to grafixbmp's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
I made you some artwork. I tried to capture the intense gameplay as well as the horror into this image as a painstakingly colored it pixel by pixel using one of the most advanced free with every comp editing programs I've ever used. -
How could that possibly be bad? Other than not staying true to the original, I think it'd be pretty great!

Porting the original classic Castlevania to the 2600
TooSlowGamer replied to grafixbmp's topic in Atari 2600 Programming
I know, but it's still Castlevania and it still has the creepy aura. Also, if this game gets finished I think it should be worthy of an artist doing new artwork. -
That's better. Also, I like the new level, but when you press the button, the game stops responding for too long. Also, I think the chance of shooting to the position you are at needs to be a little higher.
