  1. I think the problem may be that it's too hard to hit him when you are in the portion with the lumps, and you only have to jump over a gap a couple of times.
  2. I like the game idea. The cinematics are great, and the different genre levels is intriguing. I think the platforming needs work, it's kinda boring.
  3. I like the cart on the right. The cart on the left looks to bland and boring, and doesn't stand out enough against other Atari games. The one on the right screams "epic game inside!"
  4. Looks great so far, although there's a couple of problems. First, on the title screen Mario moves faster than the screen. Second, what's with the flashing?
  5. There's a bunch of stuff left to do to it still. Also, how do you feel about not using label maker, and making a completely different label? I know some people want homebrews to look authentic with the label, but are you open to making a completely different label? I like the original labels because they make the game look more like it came from that time, but if you have an idea for another label, I am all for taking a look at something different. That's fine, I just wanted to know before I took the time to make a label.

  7. OK, here's my first go. I took out the fire, but if you want I could probably find better looking fire to put in there in place of the old fire. I also redid the hole completely. Keep in mind this is my first go at it. It would also help greatly if you gave links to all the original pictures. Oh, and PRO TIP: Don't use MS Paint. EDIT: Now that I'm looking at it more, I accidentally made the bottom of the plane brown. I'll fix that.
  8. The magical land that's actually a store near Dallas?
  9. I like the pic, but it need cleaning up. Like around the hole, and the flames coming out of the ship.
  10. I switch between windows, but I always end up clicking on the wrong one, etc. I just feel cluttered. Also, I can't get compiling to work in VbB for some reason. I just copy and paste it into Crimson Editor to do it. I don't mean change the HTML page into a PDF, I mean completely remaking it for a binder version. It would need to be completely redone formatting wise.
  11. Have you ever thought about formatting your Batari Basic page into a printer friendly PDF file that we could put in a binder? Since I'm only on one monitor, I always feel crowded with more than one program open, and to code I need at least two (VisualbB, and another IDE to compile it). So having a browser open all the time makes it unbearable.
  12. I felt the update fixed that, it at least made it less luck and more skill. What you're mentioning I don't think is a problem since you can time entering the left side of the screen based on the red object.
  13. You know you're an Atari Nerd when you know all the tricks of identifying an Atari system from any angle.
  14. This game is about 30 times better now. Before going back was just annoying and it was very hard to jump over the thing, you just had to get lucky.
  15. How about something constructive? Dude, that's good. I hope Cliff approves, because I'm not good at art, but I'm pretty good at photography.
  16. The problem is, this is my first time coding on the system, so it's very inefficient and very big. The last update (2.1) was like 14 bytes away from over 4k. I know I could optimize a lot, but it'd probably be easier to rewrite the whole game. I think a level editor would be simple, but only if I used bank switching. I think I may though, because, as said before, this game is a practice game for me to learn the language. Bankswitching is an important thing to learn. Also, if I decide to use bankswitching, it would give me quite a lot of extra room, even with the level editor. I could probably fit in more advanced AI, the shooting sprites, etc. Also, if you buy a cart that uses bankswitching, it's 5 dollars more, right? Because it uses the melody board? If I use bankswitching, why would I limit myself to 8k? Are there any problems with going to 16k? I know it's not as technically impressive, but that doesn't matter to me as much, because games should just be about having fun.
  17. Merlin's Walls looks amazing, I didn't even know that existed. But, I wasn't planning on using solid colors for the playfield, I was planning on using blocks to make diagonal lines. Possibly lines running vertically to show it's a wall.
  18. After playing Skeleton+, I got an idea. You know how there's that kind of pseudo-3D skeleton+ uses where it moves one whole screen at a time? What if I attempted to do some real 3D (I mean, realer than 1 screen at once)? In Batari Basic, because that's all I know, and I don't see any big limitations it has that would really stop me from doing this. Since the resolution of the playfield is so low, there will be quite a lot of "fog" which would just prevent you from seeing past a certain point along the Z axis. But if you're constantly moving, it's not as bad as it may sound. If I can sit down and think about it, I think it's possible to get an engine built in Batari Basic which would accomplish this using the pfpixel command. Like, if you move right it would take off some pixels, and add other pixels. This is pretty ambitious for me, and may be downright impossible. If it is possible, it will take a lot of time to work out. Has something been done like this at all for the 2600? Any tips, thoughts, statements telling me it's impossible and I shouldn't try it?
  19. I can't do art at all, either. I'm average with Photoshopping, though. Thanks for saying that, it makes me feel less bad about bashing your work.
  20. That could generate awesome coverart!
  21. Not to be mean, but I don't like them that much. It may just be my preference, but I don't like using the label maker site in conjunction with a real life picture (i.e. not drawn). Of course, it's your game, you can do whatever you want, and whatever label is on it, it'll still be on my wishlist. I think you should use the real life image you have there, with a cartoon ship flying through. That would give an interesting look, but could just make it look cheap.
  22. I think it'd be cool if you could add an option to use paddle controllers somehow. I see paddle controllers as a big advantage the 2600 has over newer systems, along with homebrew, so combining the two always is great. If you find a way to do this, it could be set up like the paddle moves left and right, fire fires, and a joystick plugged into player 1 port moves up and down, or possibly the other paddle. I doubt this is possible, in Batari Basic anyway, because you can't combine the readpaddle and multisprites kernels. I can dream, though!
  23. I was typing my response at the same time he was typing his, he just posted before me...
