  1. Few MORE words on the subject. :)

Initially the PCB designed to have on board this little latch switch, on the back -solder- side. But at the end and after a careful look, I see cause was impossible even for me, to make an accurate hole on the plastic enclosure. This mainly due to the limitation of the plastic shell in relation to the PCB. The last one don't have a locking point on the back shell of enclosure.

Therefore it was the only way to add a small twisted cable, with the switch at one end of this. Now someone can make a small hole using 6,5 mm drill, and place there from inside the micro switch with a little hot glue. Of course you must be very careful with the hot glue, not to come in contact with the stem of micro switch and destroy it.

Believe me to make this alteration on 33 devices, take me some hours, :( :_( because of super small switch. But I had no inclination to send you something that you could not ever finish. Not one moment!

  2. I am not respond for him, but if he have more time available, will did major updates also in DD game. Only the changes at sprites and some background colors, make the game (for someone who have already play the original version) look awesome ;) !!!

For any member who have the skills to reprogram the 27C020 eprom, I could place a socket on PCB as to be possible any update in the future.

  3. Hi there.. :)

PCB's they come complete ready to run on your A7800. Therefore no need to solder or programming anything. ;)

From this point you have two options.

    1. Two complete PCB's with a different game for each one, in case who you intend to place that on two plastic enclosures.

    2. One PCB with two games as a combo, selected among them with a switch. In this second option, you can order also a special decal from me, crafted from KevinMos3 member here. Very soon I will post a picture of this.

Also Kevin has put some personal color pallet touches on Double Dragon game, as to make it more attractive. More soon.

  4. Yes I know I am late only 6 months to respond. :-D

VBXE is something advanced for our retro Atari's, and maybe very useful for some people's. I have install mine on my A1200 XL.

I wish for the day which someone make development for a device which work on our today's VGA monitors. I don't care if will support HDMI or simple VGA output, and really I don't care ;) if it have any of the hardware options of VBXE... I just like to see my original Atari screen on the same VGA monitor of my PC.

  5. Hi jrose78.

Ok lets start.. Activision make between others the two specific games. Because of its data size -128 Kbyte each one- to be possible to work on Atari 7800, need a data control mechanism. This in hardware language called bank-switch.

Unlike with Atari games which have another control mechanism implemented with simple logic ic's (74LS...), Activision for cost reducing plus space saving used only one complex for that era ic, a PLD.

This mean Programmable Logic Device, and on this you can build inside many logic ic's using programming data.

Now, after programming these data, the ic "locked" as to not be possible for someone else to copy and remake the game on another cartridge. End of lesson! ;) :P

I design this cartridge to can work with each one of the games only, or as a combo with two games choose one or the other from a switch. So you have two order options.

    1. You could buy one board with one of the games who you prefer Rampage or Double Dragon, or two boards for the two games. After take a plastic enclosure from any old original Atari 2600 or Atari 7800 cartridge, and place there your new boards. For this case I have not support decals. If you want you can print alone one, on a printing shop.

    2. You could buy the same board with a bigger eprom ic which hosts both games, plus a switch to choose each one want to play. In this case I will support two decals -face & plate-, which will design a good friend here KevinMos3, and I will present it when its ready, in the first post of this thread.

Also have the same option to use an old Atari cartridge enclosure to place this new one inside. But to have access to the selector switch, must do a small hole on the back plastic enclosure.

I have not time to explain now the Pal and Ntsc system colors. If you live in USA so you can play both games, if no only Double Dragon.

  6. I am really intrigued on what novel approach was taken. [i assume you are using the 8K swapped images and not the default ones of time gone]

Nope, I use the original Rom. Or someone can use the web version, swapped with your excellent way as you describe on your thread.

I believe cause Eckhard Stolberg is the appropriate person to give a generalized explanation on how it works. ;) As for the Novel approach, I believe cause the then speaking, refer to the way which the PAL pld was used.

In reality Kevin Cooper has use even the last resource available on this little pld.
