  1. ....and then there's the fateful day you click on the link to his website. Oh, and on the subject of being observant, has anyone seen cavelevel around lately?
  2. I actually see Commodore disk drives more often than C64s themselves. Lots of times with old computers like that you'll even find them still in the boxes with all the documentation. They've always been less than $15 when I've seen them. Maybe I'm just lucky. Odyssey 2 stuff, at least in my experience around here, is harder to find than C64. I picked up my O2 for about $5. And have passed on a beat up boxed one in the $20 range. I actually saw that one before I bought one for a fiver, but it was missing a few cords and the ones it did have were hacked and spliced up. Don't pay big money for Odyssey games even if they're boxed, since most of them can be had pretty cheaply.
  3. Sounds like it might be a CDX which would be really cool to have. The CDX will also play Sega CD games and is tough to find. If it's just a Genesis III, I wouldn't really bother with it unless you want it for completist collection purposes. If it really is a CDX, go back soon.
  4. Right now I have 7 systems hooked up and another 8 or so shelved in a closet. It's not a very permanent gaming setup just yet. They're just in a spare bedroom where I have my computer. I have them stacked up on a few milk crates around a little thriftstore TV. I actually like the smaller screen for most of my older games. Once I can get around to renovating the basement, (that is probably still a year in the future) I shouldn't have to keep anything packed away anymore. I miss having some of them ready to go, but I usually don't feel like going to the hassle of hauling them out and hooking them up. I've slowly been building up a woodworking shop and have been drawing up plans for a console oriented entertainment center. Since it's a collection as well as entertainment it will be nice to have them all out on display whether I play each one regularly or not.
  5. God kills a kitten every time you use a clone system. Sorry man thems the facts. Heh, probably the only reason I don't have a Gemini stashed away somewhere is I haven't seen one at a thriftstore or fleamarket yet. Welcome to AA, it's a great community.
  6. The middle one kind of looks like an evil, scheming, cock-eared teddy bear peeking over a wall.
  7. Oops, meant to say searching the 2600 forum.
  8. It might still be something in your Atari, but I seem to recall a few posts here at AA about people having trouble with some of the 6 button controllers. Searching the classic gaming forum might turn something up.
  9. Cool find on the MB controller. I'd love to happen across something like that. Most of my thrifting is motivated by the search for 2600 games, and since I recently ordered a CC2 I haven't been going as much. Luckily for me I checked a few places yesterday. I was craning my neck to see behind the counter of their "fancy" section when I spied something in a clear bag and sitting in a box of sunglasses and other assorted crap. What is that, an aquarium lid? No! A Sega Master System! It was priced at $20 which isn't a super deal, but it looked to be complete and in good condition. These seem to be kind of scarce around here since I've only ever seen 3 in person. Two overpriced ones at game stores and another bare console for $40 at a fleamarket. Then **cue angelic choir | ** as the thrift store lady plucked my new-found Master System from its cardboard nest, what should appear? Like a mother bird, lovingly covering her young, the SMS had been sheltering, within the same bag, a Sega Saturn system with all hook-ups! So not too shabby for $20, and it kind of makes up for the dead Saturn I bought a year or so ago.
  10. If that automatic switchbox is giving you good results then it is most definitely an exception to the rule. No one was trying to be misleading. You might still give that RCA adapter a try. It's cheap, and short of doing a mod, it gives the strongest cleanest signal you can get out of your VCS.
  11. Hopefully someone with more electronics expertise will weigh in, but here are my thoughts, novice though they may be. Sounds like it could very well be the power supply since it stopped working after you moved it and then got some change after futzing with it and plugging it back in. It could also possibly be the power jack on the console itself has come loose. The system will hold a little charge, which is why you can power on an unpowered system and see a bit of a flash on the screen as it drains away. Maybe this explains why you can only recreate the flicker by unplugging and replugging. This movement probably briefly connects the broken circuit allowing a jolt of electricity into the system, but the connection is intermittent enough to keep it from finishing booting up. I would first check the power jack on the system. If that seems ok, try holding the plug firmly into the jack and/or holding the power supply wire in different positions to see if you can get a good connection. If that fails, try cleaning the power switch. If you still don't have any luck, then maybe try a different powersupply.
  12. Let's see how my powers of prediction are. In your future I see a dusty 4-switch woody with Combat and text-label Space Invaders, possibly a copy of Pitfall. Two joysticks, one of which has teeth marks on the rubber boot, the other is missing the boot entirely. Hopefully you have better luck than that, but depending on how things are in your region, that might actually be the good luck. Never know where things will turn up though. It's always a pleasant surprise to find things that were well taken care of.
  13. This game takes a looong time. Here's where real life stepped in and reclaimed me. 343200 Tip: For added fun, play with a Pro-Line joystick!
  14. You know he's just messing with you Stan. He's already mastered this one and waits for you to post so he can put up a score just bit higher and torture you. Poor Stantalus. j/k
  15. Bah! Here I logged on thinking I could sit in first place for just a little bit. New personal best, 46858. The HSC really adds a lot of fun to playing these games. You're not kidding about level 20 getting crazy.
  16. Man this is a great game! So glad I bought it from Mert a little while back. Here's my best so far, 35326.
  17. I've had limited succes with glue sticks, but a lot of the cheaper brands aren't very good. You might find some better ones in art supply stores. The best method I've found is to clean the cartridge with alcohol then re-attach the labels with 3M photomount spray. Good luck!
  18. I've got one that blinks red from time to time if the cartridge isn't clean enough. I think mine is a fairly late model release.
  19. I'd like to participate so here's my entry, 1113.7. Seems like my first game is always the best, then on subsequent tries I can't make it past day 5.
  20. Ooh, 300! Congratulations. That will be my next collecting milestone to hit as well. I'm at about 250, counting major label/title variations, and approx. 225 unique games. It will probably be a year or more before I hit 300, as I don't buy very often off of eBay and I'm getting to where I have the majority of easier to find games. It's always nice to see a batch of nicely stacked games, but the OCD part of me really wants to get in there and organize them a little better.
  21. Is there a kind soul here that has the Tron pirate of this game that could post or send me a decent-sized scan of the label? The copy I have is rather deteriorated and held in place by a thick application of clear tape. I plan on keeping the orginal label after I remove it but would like to make a new one to apply so that it's nicer to display. It wouldn't have to be a huge forum-stretching image, just good enough to see all the details so I can rebuild it in Adobe Illustrator. Thanks
  22. Here's another thread I remember seeing. Despite povlok's unorthadox beliefs about ArmorAll I tend to believe him.
  23. Vintage Stock, which when they first opened had pretty reasonable prices on their Atari games. Lately it seems they've been consulting some inflated price guide. Sure it's smart business to know what you're selling, but they don't even bother to take into consideration that the label might be in piss-poor shape. I'll buy a poor condition game I don't have if the price is right, but when they want nearly $10 for a crappy condition R4 it leaves me with very little desire to ever return to their store.
