There's really no judging from outward appearance. I have three 7800s and outwardly they are all late-model releases. Granted, I don't own Kool-Aid Man, Time Pilot, or a Supercharger, but all the other games that I've seen mentions of incompatibilities work fine on all three of them. Seems like I've read in another thread that the only way to know for sure what version 7800 you have is to take it apart and look at the date on the board. The only thing I have that won't play, because it doesn't physically fit is Tigervision's Threshold. But that's not really an issue for me since I always keep a 2600 hooked up, and IMHO Threshold isn't exactly an outstanding game.

Except that he probably swapped out all the rares he needed for commons before he put them on ebay. Sorry, had to say it. I feel your pain. About a month ago I passed up a huge garage sale I saw after work because I had to meet up with my wife and her family at a restaurant. I probably would have had time but I decided not to stop because it was on a busy road and turning would have been a pain in the butt. The worst part of this story is that I'd stopped at this house when they had a garage sale the year before and asked if they had any video games. They told me they had some Atari stuff but that it was in storage. Anyway, (returning to the present) when I stopped in the next day and asked about video games I got the familiar old line "Oh yeah, we had a great big box of Atari stuff, sold it earlier today."

**Tries valiantly to steer thread back on topic and merge it with off-topic subject matter** My Atari philosophy is that if the Energizer bunny had been around in the 2600's heyday there might have been a game based on it and it would probably be as rare as Chase the Chuckwagon. *whew!*

Sounds like you found the rarity guide so now you know what you have. Maybe sell the rare stuff and keep the system and more common games for your kids since they seem to have some interest in it. When dealing with Atari the general rule seems to be that the rarer it is, the less fun it is. There are some exceptions, but for the most part you'll get the best gameplay out of the common titles. Your kids may want their Atari later on and kick themselves for letting all of it go.

Welcome to AtariAge! Here you go. The adapter, available here at AtariAge or at Radio Shack, will give you the best picture because it goes straight into your TV but an old school switchbox can be handy because it allows you to switch easily between game/TV. Stick around, AA is a fun website.

ooh, I take that back, I hadn't been looking at the supersize pictures, a lot of them are worse than average.

Maybe going across the state to St. Louis makes a difference? Granted, some of those are real dogs, but for the most part they're pretty average compared to what I find. My standards for wild finds aren't particularly high, but I do love to find a batch of games where you can tell someone actually took care of their stuff. I still don't have Popeye or Crystal Castles (the only R2s I still need) because the only copies I've ever found were absolutely trashed and still overpriced.

Technically, yes it was stealing. Although if it were in danger of being damaged by the rain I would probably have done the same just to rescue it, then make a donation to the SA later on.

I believe Genesis has an actual Sega produced wireless system. Seems like I've seen 3rd-party wireless setups as well.

IMO, provided everything works, that's not a bad deal. If you sell it on ebay don't expect to make a substantial profit on it, but you should certainly break even.

Maybe try looking in the picture frame section? You can find frames that are basically just clear plastic boxes. They come in different sizes and are about 1" deep.

You've probably already done this, but it never hurts to ask. Have you tried both settings of the channel switch on the Atari? They usually have 2 and 3. My TV/Atari works better on 2 than 3 but it just depends on where you live. I know some people have reported getting a better picture hooking up their Atari through a VCR. It's also possible you have a bum switchbox, in that case the adapter you speak of would help.

I put them in the interlocking cartidge holders. Like most I separate by company and then alphabetize by title. For boxed games I usually take out the cart and put it with my other loose games and keep the boxes elsewhere. My duplicates just go in a milk crate in the closet. Label variations go in another milk crate.

Dang, congratulations on that find! Any one of those would about make my month collecting-wise, but to find them all together.....joygasm indeed.

Thanks for all the replies. It's finding out funny little things like this that keep the hobby interesting to me. So is this variation pretty much as equally common as any of the other picture label Codebreakers? Now that you mention it, seems like I've noticed something like this on the box of my Sega 32x. I think I've got one of the later releases after they decided it wasn't compatible with the CDX so they put a sticker over parts of it.

I got a picture label Codebreaker over the weekend. It's the '86 release "Code Breaker" spelling variation with black tape over the "use with...." line. I didn't notice the tape until I got home and at first was disappointed because I thought the previous owner had stuck something to the label. It wasn't until I checked the big list of label variations that I discovered I had a kind of cool find. So has anyone ever checked underneath the tape? I figure they probably just goofed and put joystick controllers instead of keyboard. If it's just something boring like that I'll leave it on, but if some disgruntled employee managed to slip in something like "Tramiel is a Jackass" ---I'm peeling that sucker off!

AFAIK, the Wico only works in joystick mode.
