Probably 3 to 4 times a week on average. Strangely enough as my collection gets bigger it almost seems like I find myself playing less. Maybe it's because it gets harder to acquire new games so it's less often that I have new games to play. I like to think of myself as more player than collector, but I did inherit the collector/packrat gene from both parents so I guess it's inevitable.

I'm not sure if I'm experiencing the same thing as Kenwood, but I've noticed a little strangeness as well. Sometimes when I search something and get a few pages in, when I click to go to the next page it will come up with a message to the effect of "no posts or topics met your search criteria."

It sounds like the color pot inside your console might need adjusted. I've tweaked a few of mine to improve them. I did a quick forum search and found this thread with a picture. You can probably find a little more information searching potentiometer, color pot, etc. Hopefully that takes care of it.

Well, in her defense, it was before I really came down with the Atari sickness. At that point all my videogame stuff still fit in 1 average-sized box. AtariLeaf, your story makes me sad.

How picky are you on the condition of your Cart labels?
candiru replied to Kenwood's topic in Atari 2600
Not very picky. Although if it's a rather common game, (3 or less is my general standard) I usually pass if the label is poor. I don't go out of my way to seek replacements for my poor condition carts, but I will trade up if I find a good deal. I have a few pretty ugly games in my collection and I'd be thrilled if they were in good shape, but in the end I care more about having the game than if it's pretty or not. -
My mom never threw any of my Atari stuff away, the only thing I can think of that she got rid of that I miss were my old rubber Hot Wheels tracks. At least I still have the launcher that you crank to shoot the cars and makes such an ungodly amount of noise. But you know what family member actually came close to throwing my Atari stuff away? Some wicked stepmother? The cousin that nobody ever mentions?? No. It was my lovely wife!!! I came home from work one day, and she was cleaning the tiny apartment we used to have. She told me she was trying to throw things away and asked if I needed any of the old junk in the boxes behind the door because she was going to get rid of it. That's right, my childhood 2600 and games!!! We still go to counseling about this.

Graphically, I think there is a cloud in a different place. There was also a bug fix between releases because the diver would sometimes get stuck. Seems like I read that somewhere.

how can i be able to be a mod or admin

Swap God for a janitor? Rot in a jar of dog paws! -
Do you actually use your heavy sixer for your 2600 gaming because of the higher image quality and because it looks kick-ass? Or do you just keep it as a showpiece? If so, why -- tight cartridge slot? Prefer a different Atari model? I'm just curious because I'm trying to determine if I'd actually use one if I got it. I've seen a few since I began collecting. They were decently priced, but never quite good enough deals to lure me into purchasing. It's kind of hard to justify when I've already got several other 2600s and other consoles. The collector in me says yes, but my closet shelves say no.

Frickin copycats!!!

Sounds like the Intellivision version which is rather common. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

how can i be able to be a mod or admin
candiru replied to MrAtari2600_Old's topic in Site and Forum Feedback
Why don't you start out by being a "secret moderator" for awhile and we'll see how that goes. Then in a couple months, everyone will vote on it. I'm in my second month of being a secret mod........ dammit dammit dammit. Now I'll never get Nukey banned!!! -
Just curious, do you have a few drinks, turn the lights down low and put a bag over the DC before you play?

Hmmm, very true. That would also explain the rubbing plate and quite possibly the astral projection as well.

I hope you don't win it, you Philistine.

Pet peeves of buying classic games
candiru replied to Famicoman's topic in Classic Console Discussion
1. Seeing something I'd like to buy except it has an absolutely obscene price on it. 2. Coming in a few days later and seeing that some idiot actually bought it. 3. While buying a Wico command control stick I fished out of a box of ridiculously overpriced Amiga stuff. clerk: "Hey that's for Atari!!" me: (actually a little impressed and trying to make conversation) "Yeah it is. It could be used for a few other game systems and older computers too." clerk: "No, I used to have one like that, it's only for Atari." 4. The punk kid at the fleamarket who said "Dude, get some Xbox" when he saw me looking at NES games. Oh well, more games for me. P.S. They never found the body. 5. The annoying clerk at the game store who didn't want to show me a copy of Zaxxon I could see in a box behind the counter because "all the Atari games were already out and Zaxxon is a Coleco game." I finally stopped going there during her shift because she pissed me off a few other times. I haven't seen her at all for quite a while though. -
I don't think I was ever embarrassed at all until I got more into Atari and started reading AA and learning about all the other awesome games. You see, the only games I actually owned as a kid were: Carnival Combat Human Cannonball M*A*S*H Pac-Man Sky Jinks Space Cavern Space Jockey Video Pinball All picked out by my parents. Not truly embarrassing, but still a fairly sucky selection when you think about all the highlights of the 2600 library I missed out on back then.

What are some of the funnier Atari 2600 games?
candiru replied to homerwannabee's topic in Atari 2600
Fast Food is pretty odd with the burping and the "You're getting fatter!" message. Any of the "splat guys" like Circus Atari and Sky Diver are funny. Honorable mention goes to the guy in Human Cannonball when he says OU CH -
Good Lord! How delusional do you have to be to think that leaving the exact same negative feedback for 50+ buyers will convince anyone he's not a crook? I hate to blame the victims but......well, I guess they'll know better from now on. I'd feel kind of foolish leaving the replies along the lines of, "Look, he did the same thing to 40 people before me!!"

I've used the 3M photo mounting spray with good results.

I've seen some game stores carry power supplies that are supposed to be an all-in-one unit for NES, SNES, and Genesis. They're kind of expensive IIRC. You might get lucky and find old stock at a Gamestop/Funcoland and find one for closeout prices since they're phasing that stuff out. The best alternative: Find a fleamarket this weekend and pick up another cheap SNES system complete with power supply so then you'd have a backup system too. While you're there, find a box full of rare games and then (this is the most important part) split them with me since I told you to go down there.
-
Probably not very much as it's one of the most common models according to the rarity list you can find at www.pong-story.com. I haven't paid more than $7 for any of the pong units I have. Of course none of those came with boxes and they don't have a gun accessory like the Telstar Ranger does. But there's not a lot of demand for old pongs so I'm guessing maybe $10 or less for a loose one. Even if it's boxed and in good shape, probably still less than $20. Look on the bright side, it's still a good find and pongs are just cool. When it comes to pong consoles I enjoy their design more than anything else. They're usually pretty funky looking.

What 2600game do you grab when you haven't Atari'd in awhile
candiru replied to Kenwood's topic in Atari 2600
Usually some Circus Atari, Seaquest, or Asteroids. If I can round up a second player, some Combat and Indy 500. -
What happened to your Original Atari as a kid in 70-80's?
candiru replied to Kenwood's topic in Atari 2600
I still have my original Vader and old games we got for Christmas of '83. It was the only console I ever had as a kid. It spent a few years in the basement until I took it with me to college. A few months back I finally repaired the B/W switch that got broken when we loaned it to a cousin years ago. It's nice to have it all complete again. Currently it's boxed up in a closet due to space limitations so I just have my 7800 hooked up.
