Lately I've been playing a lot of Seaquest, Megamania, and Demon Attack, Enduro is also a must have. Joeybastard just listed several paddle games and I'll second those, it's hard to go wrong with a paddle game. Oh, and Skeet Shoot, to remind you how good your other games are.

I'm sure there are many different employment arrangements for play testers, but you might end up working only part time. I have a buddy that lives in L.A. who does this and works on a project to project basis. He gets laid off fairly often and sometimes even if a project is promised to him it still sometimes gets pulled out from under him at the last minute. As far as I know he enjoys the work, but in his case it's definitely not guaranteed income.

If your 7800 has one it would be on the left side and clearly labeled. It was designed for an unreleased laserdisc add-on. Atari dropped it on later 7800s because the laserdisc player project was cancelled. Mitch I thought I'd heard something like this before, but never saw much else about it. So this was really going to be a full-fledged laserdisc player, as in big-as-a-record-album laserdiscs? Are there any prototypes known to exist?

I know I'm digging up an older thread, but the pong forums move at a slower pace anyways. I just got an Odyssey 200 (also minus RF box) and was looking for info on it when I stumbled across this thread. If you haven't found a switchbox yet and still need to test it, I figured out that you can do so with a regular coax cable. All I did was insert the center wire of the coax into the hollow center of the Odyssey plug and then push/hold the Odyssey plug sideways until the post made contact with the outer section of the coax plug. It's not a long-term solution (although you can hold it in place with a rubberband) but at least I was able to confirm that it worked, with crystal-clear reception I might add.

looking to replace my rf cable, is 1 any better than another
candiru replied to chrishicks's topic in Atari 2600
You should be able to use the same cable for the 7800 and CV. I know that the 7800's isn't hardwired to the console and the CV's is detachable as well. Here's an online CV manual you might be interested in -
It appears my lame attempt at humor by purposely misunderstanding your first statement has been misconstrued. Unless...... YOU'RE purposely misunderstanding MY purposeful misunderstanding...... So my next step should be to uh..... you tricky devil. Okay, now I'm just being silly. Kojak in no way endorses the smoking of cigarettes.* *This message sponsored by the estate Telly Savalas.

Kojak had something against Pine Sol?
-
Maybe you could close everything up in a bigger box that also includes an open container of Pine Sol. I've heard of freshening up smelly rooms by putting bowls of Pine Sol in them and closing the door. If everything else fails, you should probably just start smoking.* *This sentence sponsored by Philip Morris.

I don't know that they're actually that rare, moreso than the regular bat handle variety though. I just don't have one and thought I'd reciprocate with an offer to take anything you might not want. Sorry Room34 not trying to hijack your thread. I haven't really got the hand cramping from CX40s yet but I do kind of feel like I'm cheating on my old Atari sticks when I use something else. Like lately I've been seeing a lot of this hot little Slik Stik number.

Too bad it's not on a cart by itself with that title and some crazy uninformed artwork.

Little extraneous noises like that just bug me. Those crappy little indoor waterfalls, windchimes, Epyx 500Js..... Little kids being noisy doesn't really bother me because they're supposed to be noisy but otherwise I eliminate it if I can. Speaking of little kids, I'll probably hang on to the Epyx since some of my nieces and nephews seem to have an easier time using that one than other joysticks when they come over and want to play Atari. Plus it's so goofy looking I like it as a novelty. I'll take that Wico ball-top off your hands though.

question on 7800 console repair(bad ebay purchase)(UPDATE)..
candiru replied to chrishicks's topic in Atari 7800
The rf plug probably isn't a big deal unless it's noticeably loose and even then some simple soldering action should take care of that. Most likely it's just the cable which is a standard item to replace. I just bought a $5 console only 7800 with switch issues off of ebay. I ended up just cleaning them thoroughly with some electronics cleaner and alcohol. They still weren't working 100% so I made a couple shims out of the guts of a ballpoint pen. Basically just little endcaps over the inside piece of the button that give less than 1/32 inch extra travel. You guys that actually fix things right just hush. It works really well (for now at least) but I understand that the switches are still available, if you're comfortable with de-soldering/soldering. I think I've even seen mention of getting them at Radio Shack. Good luck. -
Outstanding idea, you'll get sick of the clicking and stop playing long before your hands start to hurt. Well, I would anyway.

Ever have a dream or nightmare that had an Atari game in it?
candiru replied to Duke 4ever's topic in Atari 2600
I think the only game playing dream I've had was the first time I played Super Mario Bros. on the NES and played for about 15 hours straight. I had weird dreams about that game all night. And like just about everybody else here I've definitely had the dreams about finding rare and strange Atari stuff. like a whole box full of rare carts, and weird colored carts. Once I dreamed I was at an auction with my family and I found a 2600 made out of blue plastic. For some reason I had to leave but I told my family to bid on it for me, but they forgot, and I was soooo pissed! I am a sad, sad man. -
Need help identifying this controller...
candiru replied to www.atarimania.com's topic in Classic Console Discussion
ooh, ass thumbs, the worst kind of thumbs. -
It's great to see a project like this started! I'm sure you'll tire quickly of rarity suggestions, but unless I live in a Wico saturated area, the bat-handle command control might not warrant a 5. I've got 4 and have passed on a few others, which is more than I've seen of a lot of the other controllers. By the way, if you're interested in photo contributions or scans I'd be glad to help fill in any gaps I could.

I have a new found respect for E.T. after finally reading up on how to actually play it and spending some time with it. I don't play it that often, but on the other hand, I can tell you exactly how many times I've played Earthworld and Fireworld.
-
Might be as simple as opening it up and making sure the cable is still well attached inside the unit. I've had this happen on one of my 2600s.

Damn, she's only for UK bidders.

Many thanks for the crash course guys. I found that the Sega CDX use the same power supply specs as the X'Eye but I definitely don't hold out much hope of finding one of those either. Looks like I've got some scrounging and tip splicing to do, especially if I ever want to play any of the 32X cd games. Once again, many thanks.

I think it's a combination of a lot of the old stuff having already made its way to garage sales/thrifts/flea markets and the popularity of ebay.
-
Thanks for the responses guys. Except you, Eric j/k Christian, just so I get it straight, and bear with me since I'm a novice at all of this--Even the 10v Genesis power supply ends up underpowering the X'Eye? Maybe I'll do a little digging at DP and see if I can find any of those threads you mentioned. Thanks for the PS-1 tip, I'll be on the lookout for one.

My X'Eye that I bought some time ago without a power supply turns out to have been fully functional all along. It calls for 9.5 volts but all the Universal A/C adapters I found skip from 9 to 12, and I had always been worried about plugging in a 10 V Genesis adapter. Anyways the system powered up and played cartridges fine with 9 volts but the CD part wouldn't work and it gave me the error message that the lid wasn't closed or there was no disc inserted. Well I bought a Genesis figuring I'd retire the X'Eye and just for the hell of it plugged in the Genny's power supply. I was very pleasantly surprised to find the CD player functioning. I guess 9 wasn't quite enough, and 10 doesn't seem to be doing it any harm--although if someone with more electrical smarts thinks otherwise I'd be greatful for any input. Anybody have any idea just how different the X'Eye vs. Genesis are constructed?

A Saturn and a few games- unfortunately the console was DOA from the thrift store. Luckily it was only $10. I hold out some hopes that I might be able to get it going again. My 4-port 5200 and about a dozen games that I need to either repair the switchbox or buy a new one. CPUWIZ helped me identify the damaged part but I have yet to get around to fixing it. TI 99/4a and several cartridges but crippled by not having joysticks. Well, I have joysticks but they're the TI sticks so I might as well not have them.

Agreed. I thought perhaps a non-functional cart might produce a uniquely distorted picture and sound effect...as if the cart was being read, but the data was bad. My M*A*S*H cartridge that has since died used to be pretty freaking awesome while it was on it's way out. It used to produce moving horizontal and vertical bars, so if you sat in a darkened room and let your eyes go slightly unfocused it was like shooting rapidly through a twisting turning square-shaped tunnel. It was enough to give you a little vertigo after awhile. She's since gone up to play in that big VCS in the sky but at least she went out in a blaze of glory.
