I know that there have been a lot of requests already, but I'd like a custom controller too. By my conservative estimates, 3 hours should be plenty of time to whip one up. Oh, and I want the whole package to cost less than $20. Sure that price seems low, but $20 times the thousands you would sell = $$$$$$$$$

The 10,000th post WTF is wrong with MegaManFan Contest
candiru replied to MegaManFan's topic in Contests
I don't know how swifty you are at working with graphics but it might be cool to post a bunch of screen shots, say 10 or more, of different Atari games but give them a little tweak. Put something out of place, missing or extra, wrong color, the possibilities are pretty limitless. Then the contest is, obviously, guessing what's wrong. I think this one would be good because it would encourage actually playing the games, and paying attention to details of gameplay. I know this one could end up being a lot of work but I'm sure you'd find plenty of volunteers to help out. Myself included. -
Eh, I think EGM just set up an environment that encouraged poking fun at the old games so they would have an entertaining article. Then the kids focused on seeing who could mock the games the best instead of actually playing them. I like classic games, or I wouldn't visit this site. Except for the not understanding how to play and saying stupid stuff like, "Why would someone pay to play this when you can play it on a cell phone" It really doesn't sound terribly different from me and a couple buddies having a few beers and thouroughly enjoying some old games, but still laughing about how silly some of them seem now.

I thought of Tigervision too even before opening up your post. My favorite that I have is Threshold, looks good on that orange cartridge too. I also like a lot of the Data Age labels.

I don't know about the stick being tilted forward, but I adjusted the sensitivity on my Wicos by simply bending the leaf springs to the desired distance from the inside of the stick mechanism. If you open it up, you'll probably find that the top spring is too close.

Good eye. I bet just about everyone here has picked a trashcan or 2, or would if the situation presented itself. I've gotten an NES unit and some games this way. I've never spotted anything good while with my wife though. I can imagine I'd catch some abuse too, but I'd probably just remind her of all the times I've had to stand around women's dressing rooms feeling vaguely like a pervert because she NEEDS me to see the outfits she's trying on.

Let's see....Initial post 3:58....reply by CPUWIZ 4:02. How much you want to bet he has a custom built application that monitors the forums for these types of threads and then searches his database for the image most likely to invoke a "Damn you, CPUWIZ!"

I recently rescued a lonely 4-switch woody from a thrift store and it has me a little puzzled. While testing it out I happened to put in my Star Raiders cart. For some reason, it will only view the map mode, and the touch-pad is unresponsive. This console and both its joystick ports work flawlessly with every other game I tried. The cart and touchpad worked fine on the other 2600s I tested them with. Not that I'm all that worried about not being able to play Star Raiders on one unit, but it got me curious. Anybody else have similar experiences with carts/units? Any of the resident programming/hardware experts have any theories about why it happens? Anybody want to purchase this one of a kind unit? I'd consider offers as low as $500. Thanks

I don't know if it would be wise to edit such a finely tuned thread title. I mean, you wouldn't want to put a damper on the literary expressiveness. It would be a sad, stale world if the likes of Shakespeare and Wordsworth were censored every time they used the the phrase "Sucks the Bunghole." And that's THE Bunghole, mind you. Not just any old bunghole... he's talking about the alpha and the omega of Bungholes. Quite a bold commentary that is undeniably worth a few moments of reflection.

That's a cool scan NE. I really like the Space Jockey review though...."No lack of thrills..." Now that was one kind reviewer.

How much of your collection is stuff you owned as a kid?
candiru replied to Room 34's topic in Atari 2600
I've still got my original Vader and the dozen or so carts my family had growing up, including the copy of M*A*S*H that died sometime while it was in storage. I'm pretty sure the original box is up in the attic back home, but last time I looked I couldn't find it. My daily use joysticks are also the originals except for replacing the white plastic piece inside. The rubber boots still show teeth marks from my little sister who was about 2 at the time we got it. I'm kind of attached to my original carts and don't plan on trading them off, not that they're rare or anything. I'm just a packrat, but most here can sympathize with that. We never had any other systems at home except the Atari. Unless I count the old TRS-80 our pastor gave to us after he got a newer computer. I never got into it too much though because there weren't many games and it was a pain to FFW to the right part of the cassette. Give me a cartridge any day. I think the only games I played on that were Fruitfly (a shooter) and some mystery game where you basically typed in North, South, East, or West to navigate through the rooms of a castle in the right order by trial and error to escape or solve the mystery, I don't really recall. Fun for an afternoon, but not much replay value. -
Seems like I recall another thread similar to this one. You might be able to find answers to a few of your questions with the search function. I've pondered it a little bit but I don't really have anything valuable enough to justify it.

I've heard that sometimes happens if you hit too many geese when you play Barnstorming.

Welcome to AtariAge. I bet you'd probably like to trade that dog Frostbite for a good rare game like E.T. j/k Seriously though, if you haven't already, take a look at the Marketplace forum and you'll be sure to find some good deals on other Atari and vintage electronic items. Not only can you expand your collection, it'll help you get to know the fine folks here at AtariAge.

My collecting has slowed since my wife and I bought a house recently. I haven't really had much extra time to go to flea markets or thrifts since we moved. I have managed to find a loose copy of M.A.D. and a couple interlocking cart holders by making some extra stops on my way home from work though.
-
I think E.T. is a must have just so you can complain along with almost everyone else about how bad it is. To be truthfull though I haven't really given E.T. a fair shake because I haven't tried playing it again since I first got it. Back then I didn't have the manual or know about AtariAge in order to get the instructions.

Actually I was expecting much worse. I tend to agree with Clock, he's probably just a kid that never grew up with the actual system and can't help but focus on the graphics compared to later consoles. This probably says it all: Imagine that, they had Star Wars waaaaay back in '83. I'll get him for not recognizing Indy 500's true greatness though.

I have a game that I used to think was Pac-Man. -
I'm probably in the minority but I enjoy a game of Defender over Chopper Command. Sure it's not as pretty and there's flicker, but I get a little more involved in the game. Plus with Chopper Command you're just protecting trucks (personally I ignore the trucks), but with Defender you have to protect your poor little humanoids from being abducted, vivisected, and hideously transformed into grotesque demons---hellbent on your destruction.

Dare I ask what Dig Dug drop refers to? -
I was reading a few Atari 2600 reviews at GameFAQs and found this one that really made me cringe http://gamefaqs.com/console/a2600/review/R51606.html. I'm used to some of the reviews being like "I tried this on an emulator for 5 minutes and it sucks. The graphics and sound are crappy compared to games we have now." Here's the closing paragraph yikes

Yeah, you've got to watch that Sumguy. Your GameStops must be fairly reasonable on their prices. Judging from the ones I've been in I think 4 huge stacks of Super Mario/Duckhunt and Genesis EA sports games would cost more than $150. One of the sumguys around here screwed himself pretty bad on some Atari stuff at an antique store close to my home. Actually it's so bad I almost hope the dealer took it all home instead of selling it for the prices he had on it. It was maybe $125-$150 worth of pretty common stuff, but with a combined pricetag of over $500. Unless he came down on his prices....all I know is he wasn't negotiable when I contacted him.

Texas Instruments TI-99/4a Set-up For Trade (Update)
candiru replied to candiru's topic in Buy, Sell, and Trade
I have located a 7800 power supply. I would be willing to trade for a working 7800 minus the power supply. -
Found a Genesis arcade stick at a garage sale $1 this weekend! I really like the feel of it. It won't replace my CX-40 for everything but it will definitely get some use. Hmm, since I had such good luck in this thread mentioning I'd keep an eye out for an arcade stick, I hereby announce that I will now keep an eye out for a booster grip and a MIB Quadrun.
